Do you use the back rail one too or just the front?
@sageoz9886
@sageoz9886 Жыл бұрын
@@djweeks_mauithe back rail is so important. It allows the front to work so much easier and also helps the rear end stay planted on the ground. Most people just have heavy bushings in the rear, clamp them down hard and call it a day. This unfortunately while keeping the board a bit more stable at high speeds kills the agility and means the outer rear wheel lifts up in hard turns, so the rear slides out from grip loss. There’s a quick vid I’ve done about why I reverse my rear trucks which improves handling substantially and is only possible thanks to this system

@@Zzzz-hu2fp the Rail Adapter lets your rear truck lean as hard from rail to rail as the front truck and can lean with the surf adapter. That means that all four wheels stay planted to the ground when you’re carving really hard, so you have more grip and can carry more speed through turns.
@sageoz9886
@sageoz9886 Жыл бұрын
My favorite tip for waterborne system users: Reverse your rear trucks. Flip them “backwards” around so they face the same as the front. The adapters still give you plenty of front end agility but now you’ll ALSO have HUGE stability at high speed, anti-wobble self-correction, more grip while turning and carving, a more realistic surfboard feel and just better overall handling. I’ve been doing this for many years on many boards both analog and electric and over many, many miles with impressive results.

Flip a regular tkp truck backwards? With or without the rail adapter?
@sageoz9886
@sageoz9886 6 ай бұрын
@@jmeib with! The rear adapter allows the front to work much more effectively and helps keep both rear wheels even while turning, otherwise the outer wheel would start to lift and half your traction. By having the rears turn with the front it’ll behave more like an AWS sports car, flattening out the rear end. In a traditional set up the rears turn against the front, like a Monster truck: great for low speed maximum turning circle but horrible for stability. By adding surf adapters we create plenty of front end maneuvering so that the rear end isn’t needed for turning and can be instead dedicated to stability.

@@jmeib let me know what you think. It may take a bit to get used to. I usually set my rear rails with medium rate and the rear truck with stiff bushings to keep the turning rate down while still allowing lots of lean. There’s a quick video on my channel where I talk about it

Yep. I have a 48-inch longboard and I have a narrower truck on the front than on the rear and it carves so smooth. They’d never sell them that way. But it’s better on a longboard anyway. I haven’t tried this set up on a cruiser length board - yet!

I grew up on a carve stik mainly. Super bummed they dont exist anymore. I used to throw 360 power slides and hang heel with that set up. How well does this truck function going backward and in a drop deck. The lower the deck is the more comfortable i feel so just curious your feed back.

Hold up I live in Costa Mesa and never knew they were based here. PS is it possible you can make a video of how efficient it is to use 80mm wheels in the back and standard size wheels in the front, like does it make pumping easier?
@WATERBORNESKATEBOARDS

generally if your nose is lower to the ground than your tail, it feels a little strange. An interesting concept since the drive from pumping is going to come from the rear.

I wouldn't say that. It will actually make it a bit more unstable when you hit rocks and bumps, because the front truck will move a lot more than what you're used to.

Would like some advice on how to set this up on a kids board (as kids surfskates are a bit thin on the ground). My 7yr old can just about pump on my YOW, but it is really too wide for his feet. Putting the waterborne on his normal slatyeboard made it too squirly.
@WATERBORNESKATEBOARDS
@WATERBORNESKATEBOARDS 2 жыл бұрын
if it's too squirly, it might be the result of trucks that are too loose, or a wheelbase that is too short. I'd start by tightening the trucks!
@ColindeSilva
@ColindeSilva 2 жыл бұрын
@@WATERBORNESKATEBOARDS I think it is more the width of the standard skateboard, and that of the trucks. Do you have any recommended kids setups? Is there a minimum width which works well?
@WATERBORNESKATEBOARDS
@WATERBORNESKATEBOARDS 2 жыл бұрын
@@ColindeSilva I guess it depends on how old the kid is and how big their feet are. The deck should be about as wide (+/- 1 inch) as their shoes are long. As a general rule
@ColindeSilva
@ColindeSilva 2 жыл бұрын
@@WATERBORNESKATEBOARDS thanks - kid is 8/30kg. But I meant more on the truck width (which drags board width along, I realise). I just got him a standard board, and tried to use a waterborne adapter on it. But the trucks are too narrow, making it squirly to surfskate. Maybe a video on this dedicated to kids (from surfskate love and you guys :D)

That would be way too much. You want stiffer trucks with the waterborne.
@WATERBORNESKATEBOARDS
@WATERBORNESKATEBOARDS 2 жыл бұрын
We've seen it done on cruisers and electric boards! People put the Adapters on Electric boards that have gullwing trucks like the evolve GTX and GTR and they have excellent handling, even at +20mph. On a cruiser however, the double kingpin trucks + Adapters make the board super tall. But fortunately you can remove the middle piece of a gullwing and make it a regular TKP truck, then the height isn't so much of an issue.
