I am always amazed to see you work down the page in your first wash, painting two very wet colors side by side. And your cars seem to spring from the ether! I know I would spoil them with all their tempting details. Thank you so much for the demos!

Take this as a complement as intended. Watching Alvaro and Zbukvic's demonstrations and having painted watercolors since a child, I can't come close to their magic with a brush. Watching you, however, I feel achieving your competency is within reach. Yours is very encouraging as opposed to feeling frustration and despair knowing I can never achieve anywhere near the level of those two masters. I watch every one of your demonstrations multiple times and print every new painting you post and place them in a Tim Wilmot binder. I'm not quite at your level but have made great strides since following you. Thanks again for sharing.

*waiting for this comment all my life . My frustration is reaching the greatest level when I can't get to that perfection of the artist you mentioned . Learning alone , I think is harder , bc you need to understand colours by yourself and for me especially I don't know if it is for everyone , it's a step I can't fully get yet . * However , those tutorials are great . I can understand what I'm looking for .

I love watching you paint Tim it really inspires me to practice, not that I will ever become as good as you are. Even so thanks for sharing with us. I enjoy watching Alvaro and Zbukvic's demos too although I don't feel they stick truly to watercolour and use a lot of gouache as they manage to paint light onto dark. I don't see anything wrong in doing that if it works why not it's the quality of the finished work that counts. I have not as yet seen Tim use body colour yet seems to achieve plenty of light and leaves whites where needed. Thanks again for sharing.

During your demos I try to imagine how I would paint an area, then watch you come in and handle it very differently than I would have, and I realize I would have completely ruined the painting. Your demos are very valuable to me as I was never shown how to approach a painting in any of the watercolor classes I've taken. I can't thank you enough for generously sharing your knowledge and experience and for explaining your thought process along the way! I would pay to watch these. All the best.

Having looked at almost all of your videos, my cathartic moment was when I understood that its not about truth but about perception, about how much our minds fill in the gaps. This freed me up, it gave me permission not to emulate, not to duplicate but to stimulate the paper and pallet into finding a picture warts and all and to 'go heavy' with the darks and lights. For an old fella with limited dexterity, searching, flowing, flicking and mopping can now help me be much less critical about my work for when it is all said an done, it is only an hour or so, a couple of bucks and a great deal of joy. Thanks Tim.

I mean this is crazy.. I studied in the art school for seven years and I'll never do this. This is ridiculously good! The way you catch those shadows with the first attempt, your sense of colour, your developed skill with moving your brush. It looks so easy, but yet only a handful of people will make it. And I love your style. Your highlight is graphic lines and the colour. Brilliant!

Terrific demo! Lots of techniques. I like that your are not afraid to use white gouache - not a purest, good! The demo reinforces my thought that you need to get the perspective (drawing) correct first, and then the values. Then you add a few impressionistic dabs of details, both dark and light and you are done and it looks great! Thanks. Now I need to try it.

Fantastic video! I wasn't going to watch this as it's quite long and then suddenly it was the end. You've got me wondering about using white gouache. I've used masking fluid by brush for many years. I started using it in a pen form a couple of years back and now I have stopped using it, opting to leave blank paper. That gouache really stands out!

Awesome demo. Like most, I struggle with too much detail. This will help me to "loosen up". I like how methodical you are and how you capture the light in your paintings. I also find it interesting how your figures are always walking towards the viewer. Seems like lost watercolorists have them walking away from the the viewer. I think your way brings your paintings to life.

really liked seeing how light developed in the painting. Because I watch on a laptop and am at the mercy of its limited sound capabilities wish the You Tube audio had more volume control. I was maxed out on both my laptop and the video's sound and still had difficulty hearing the valuable commentary. This is something I run into frequently on other You Tube presentations. (sigh) Thank You so much for sharing, you make it seem so effortless. Love how you compose a painting. The more I watch your presentations the more I admire your work. KAT from central USA

Superb painting and nice commentary. I'd appreciate even more explicit attention to how (and how much) you rewet things as you paint, how wet or dry the paper you're painting into is, etc. We see you pre-wet things before your first wash, but after the first hair-dryer episode, are fresh strokes always starting wet-into-completely-dry? You maintain a diffuse softness to your brushwork that eludes me when the paper is dry -- maybe I am just seeing a master rather than a novice at work!

Hi Nicholas. I mainly paint onto dry paper. I paint wet in wet normally in the sky areas or shadow areas.

I absolutely adore water color as a medium. But to this day I haven't been able to find a paper that I'd like painting on (I always look for some when I visit any shop that has painting supplies. No luck. sigh.) Maybe I'll have to figure out something else, like fabric?
