Watercolour demonstration by Tim Wilmot with people, buildings and cars.

In this demo I will be covering...
1) Choice of Subject. What makes a good watercolour subject. How to simplify the scene.
2) Materials I use such as the paper. I will also cover the paints I use and the palette, plus how I hold the different brushes for different techniques.
3) Doing the outline sketch as the first step. How to draw boat shapes.
4) Doing the sky and the first wash of the background and then the water.
5) Shadows and details of the figures and cars.
6) Watch out for the 'sword' brush at the end and highlighting tips.

Love how you're able to transform what looks to be a mundane photograph into a beautiful painting that has life and vitality; I can feel the heat and hear the sounds of the street! Wonderful

I really like your loose style. I really want to learn from you how to paint shapes, not objects. Especially with the cars I always think in the beginning, that's never going to be recognizable as a vehicle and in the end you pull it together with a few simple shadows and highlights. Thank you for all the real time videos I'm learning and having fun watching you.

This was a brilliant demo to observe. When I first saw the thumbnail it looked fab. But when I then saw the reference photo I was a bit disappointed as it looked so ordinary, and lacking interest. I was amazed to watch this painting develop into such an interesting and beautifully created work. I have learnt so much from it and look forward to watching your other videos. Talented artist!

Love your work so much Tim and your videos are excellent. As a beginner, I am doing a lot of really simple work right now to practice technique and to work through mistakes. Your work with figures and vehicles in landscapes is really inspiring me to take bolder chances and to stop pretending that many of our modern landscapes do not include cars and people. To the point: I am setting up a new palette for a more "permanent" home studio and wrote down your colors - I think you missed one of the blues, because I only have 13 colors total. I know it's not a precise science, but wondering if you would be so kind as to point me to the missing color? Here is what I have: 14. Neutral Tint 13. Burt Umber 12. Burt Sienna 11. Yellow Ochre 10. Verm. Green 9. (Missing?) 8. Cerulean Blue 7. Cobalt Blue 6. Ultramarine Blue 5. Alz. Crimson 4. Cad. Red 3. Light Red 2. Cad. Orange 1. Cad. Yellow

Missing one might be Cobalt Turquoise or Cobalt Green. Good luck with the cars and people

Well in this part of globe I cant find a neutral tint. Is it the black/ivory black that comes with the other tubes in a set? Why the videos are often blurry and unclear? Thanks a lot anyway for your effort!!

The earlier videos are not as high in definition as more recent ones. An alternative colour is paynes grey
