Day 9- 14.7 miles from Rock Gap to Wayah Bald Shelter. Sunsets shuttled us back to trail and we had amazing views from Silers Bald and at Wayah Bald. It was so great to feel and see the sunshine 🌞

I feel your pain. I have long second toes and stubbed both on the same day in 2019 - this, after blistering both heels four days earlier. The tip of one toe turned purple, the entire toe on my left foot did the same. I did a zero the next day and then continued on. Turns out that out that the left toe was broken and the right one was sprained. Luckily I only had 75 more miles to hike to the end of my trip. Strangely, I was not in much pain after the first hour, which was excruciating, then they went totally numb until I made it to camp. My left second toe now must be bandaged up to prevent the joint from rubbing the top of my shoes, taking the skin off. 😮 Every time I see you in those glasses I think of how much time and money you must be saving on blush! They rock, in a very practical sense! Nice views from Wayah Bald!

I did the almost exact thing at work a couple wells ago coming off a ladder. It gives me a little push back every now and again depending on shoes... fortunately I think my hiking shoes are good. It will heal!

Hope the toe feels better soon. No need to rush, just keep sauntering north. Hiking - “I don’t like either the word or the thing. People ought to saunter in the mountains - not hike! Do you know the origin of that word ‘saunter?’ It’s a beautiful word. Away back in the Middle Ages people used to go on pilgrimages to the Holy Land, and when people in the villages through which they passed asked where they were going, they would reply, “A la sainte terre,’ ‘To the Holy Land.’ And so they became known as sainte-terre-ers or saunterers. Now these mountains are our Holy Land, and we ought to saunter through them reverently, not ‘hike’ through them.” - John Muir

Just think of the toe as an excuse to slow down and enjoy the woods and the views...the journey. Glass half full. Hope it is ok and better, soon.

What a bummer to hike all those roots and rocks and then hurt your toe at a hostel. Gorgeous day! If I ever hike the AT Qtips will be in my backpack 😂 I wish y’all had Buttercup trail angel this year. I’m sure you’re missing her help and support. Hope your toe gets better soon.

That was bad luck on your toe,put it in the cold water, good video with some good views, so let's keep on hiking 🚶♀️😀

Sorry to hear about the big toe. A friend of mine had to have his removed so you are lucky to still have it LOL. I like the views from Wayah...A lot of people think hiking the AT is not that hard but the little injuries that everyone gets along the way can be quite naggy. John from MI
