@@afroowl9933 same, I dropped it at ep 4, just as Connor did. It's a lame attempt at survival shounen with no actual stakes. I could care less about them not making the national team, not all of them could've made it anyway due to the limited number of players allowed. The thing with the ego just made me cringe, especially because football is a team game anyway and they have to work together with the other players to win a match. It's why I don't call it a sports anime (neither did its author), it's a cringe battle/survival shounen.

I think that the more 'cartoonish-style' (as the boys called it) worked in favor of My hero Academia in the first season. Because it was so over the top that it kind of felt like a parody of western comic books. But this style got toned down as the story got darker and somehow the show never got the tonal shift right. It just feels stuck between a cartoonish comedy (which could work if done right) and these dark stories that get hold back by the inconsistent tone. I feel like Horikoshi (author of MHA) wanted to combine too many things together and it just didn't work as intended. (Btw I'm aware that this comment will most likely get lost and never seen by anybody but I just had to let my opinion out as I was a MHA fan back in it's peak and often think about this topic.)

Man mob psycho is an anime where the "Its not the destination its about the journey / friends we made along the way" thing actually shines and matters more than it wrapping up.Shows like that needs to be a slow burner, so the slower paced season 3 made more sense to me . I know they didnt have that much material to begin with but not going the movie route and making the season 3 was artistically a better choice. I understand connor is about the pee pee poo poo gamer brain fast action and prefers things getting done quick but imho mob psycho works better in slow pace. I mean you don't really go to Connor for nuanced intelligent takes. And I don't say that as an insult, this isn't a series that was ever going to appeal to him. So bad takes are expected. I was more surprised by Garnt saying things that were dark on paper weren't in motion. Without spoiling, I don't see many other shows, anime or otherwise, willing to show a particular breed of violence. Even doing it off screen is often too much for many viewers and MHA had the balls to do it without looking away. The only way that shit doesn't land is because you don't want it to. MHA is far from flawless but boy howdy do people give it an overly hard time. While simultaneously propping up alternatives that are equally flawed, if not worse. Bleach is a quick read because it's mostly vapid content, there isn't much to take in so you can blast right through it. Fun. But not remotely similar outside of genre. You know a series that has no danger to it? One piece. Is it still a great series? Absolutely. I don't mind people not liking MHA, but don't fuckin lie about why. It's ok to not know.

The only difference is that I'm more laid back and open about being a weeb, and he keeps it more under wraps. Like on the weeb side of it it's cathartic in how relatable it is. In the relationship side it's just a reminder to be more considerate of each other and communicate more. So many good anime brought up in this episode that never gets talked about, Golden Boy got me jumping in my seat, it’s such a great show that no one ever talks about because of the perverted aspects but the aspect of the unlimited potential for Kentaro to learn and become the best at anything he’s interested in just because he can and then moving on to the next thing is such a great dynamic and I know that’s a semi common trope in anime but you really get the feeling that he’s an idiot but that he genuinely puts in the effort and really cares about whatever he does. Just gushing at this point but this really opened my eyes to how much effort went into anime from the 80s 90s and 00s, especially with the last episode going into how they actually made anime in those days. So good Edit: Not sure if it’s been talked about before on the podcast but since Golden Boy was brought up, I recommend Great Teacher Onizuka, brilliant for a lot of the same reasons as Golden Boy, with the perv meter turned down a bit. Another old anime known for the reaction faces and clips but something I forgot about until rewatching it recently was the soundtrack, it’s simple and repeats itself but you never really get tired of hearing it

@@ktvindicare fair , different taste , i personally cant enjoy things like full metal alchemist or death note or evangelion cuz they are too deep and doomer for me , but i love made in abyss cuz its sad and deep but in a anecdotal storyline where we truly only see the world through figures in history and present which connects me with the characters and world rather than feeling like a outsider looking in but im also really dumb so i love to read jujutsu kaisen cuz its easy to read and amazing but then i also like chainsaw man cuz it does the doomer and deep in a different way than normally is done where the ending is pretty obvious but it gets more clear as you go through that the suspicions you may have had are more grounded than you originally thought which i enjoy too , mob psycho is a show that holds alot of weight to me alot cuz of where i was mentally/physically in a abusive home and how i could relate to the experiences of wanting to blow up but i held that in and id often hurt people i genuinely cared for rather than those who tormented me through my actions and words , another story that holds alot of weight for me is parasyte the maxim which again terrible spot and i could really relate to Kana and she made me cry which was one of the emotions i really dont let myself do , anime and media in general can have any assortment of reasons why or why it isnt impactful on you so dont feel like u missed out cuz u prolly have amazing shows and media other people cant feel for , i also cant play video games with story and enjoy them ,i have to be with someone else while playing them at similar time or watch someone else cuz i like stories and i like telling them but the biggest part is seeing a reaction and emotion behind it , in shows i can feel for characters , in games i cant but others can so i enjoy it through them , thats the reason i dont go to the movies with people in my row or in a group if possible cuz ill pay too much attention to the people im with/audience rather than the movie and how it makes me feel , weird how minds are wired to draw similarities in places and none in others and how others around can draw similarities inaccurately due to their lack of knowledge on the internal affairs of the mind in others but ig thats being human , we make patterns and shapes where they dont exist and sometimes where they do ,all a matter of prospective and knowledge , anyways if u read through this long ramble i appreciate u

@@SepehrKiller i agree and am also a massive fan but season 3 couldve been a movie if they wanted it to be and i still think they should try to make it into a movie but ig maybe the art style wouldnt blend well into modern day anime movies where everything has to be like super duper pretty idk , still would like to see it in movie form , either way modern classic for sure

I loved that opening playing there. In the first season it was Mob's theme, but playing it here for Reigen actually made it clear that it was actually everyone's song all along.

Concerning Re Zero S3, I think the reason it hasn't been released or announced is that most of the White Fox animators left to do Mushoku Tensei. And S3/Arc 5 contains much more action than the earlier Arcs so they need a good team to do it well. But they have some kind of announcement coming (late March IIRC) so hopefully that will be for a new season. As for never ending, Tappei is currently writing the last parts of Arc 7... of around 11 planned Arcs. So yes it will be a long one.

IMO, the reason season 3 isn't coming out anytime soon is probably because it's primarily a promotion of the source material. And it kinda makes sense that pace is optimal for the purpose both keeping interest of hardcore fans and interesting new audience for years to come. Imagine if they hastily released like 4 or more seasons, but there is no more original source to adapt. It leaves awkward silence for like 3 years until the whole series is finished. There is no reason for most anime-only watchers to read light novel, since they already experienced most of the story, and most will not be bothered to read remaining books, i.e. it is hard to transition from watching animated series to reading it. If you think about this way, it all comes together (at least, in my head).

As much as I know making anime is a lot of work. I'm more curious about what's going on with Madoka Magica "Turning the tide on Walpurgis. I just hope we get a release date soon, because I was planning to book my trip so I can go see it in Japan. They teased it back in 2021 and nothing has been revealed so far.

Not quite the same as "if you loose the game you die", but it at least puts it in better context

I love Overlord way too much man. It's the only series thus far where the anime captivated me enough to make me read the light novels, wait for new volumes to come out, then re-read the whole series just for the new volume.

Also, stories about relationships are a thousand times more interesting than stories about finding one. Shonen romance tend to be the latter. That's why Domestic Girlfriend is unironically kinda good. Don't believe how dumb its synopsis sounds. An example of a shonen anime where they're actually together the entire time is Horimiya. People love Horimiya.

The Gentle arc in MHA was amazing, up to that point all villains were just "evil just for evils sake", gentle was the first one to show the "dark side" of hero society, how someone that has all the intentions to do good can get screwed over just by having bad luck, you know how they always mention that every hero has that "i moved before i even realized it" moment where they save someone they get a pat in the back and start their hero career? well gentle had that moment, but his bad luck got him into jail and he was pretty much forced to become a villain after that since society didnt allow him to follow his dream. Lets not forget La Brava, she has literally the power of love, thats some main protagonist quirk, normally that powers always wins but here it got pited against another big hitter the power of friendship, that fight was hype AF, i understand why Connor couldnt get it, but im dissapointed Joey and Garnt couldnt get the not so subtle symbolism. Also hyped they came back to redeem themselves. As for Overlord i agree with everything they say, and all of their issues are fixed in the light novel, the anime does not make justice to the source material.

MHA has some of the most interesting ideas but the main characters felt kinda moppy and plain like i really don't give a shit about Deku, Bakugo or Shigaraki characters like uraraka, todoroki ,endevour ,hawk ,ingenium are much more interesting . I mean Deku is such a wimp throughout the series it's season 6 and he is still like i am gonna save shigaraki ,that's like the biggest wtf that dude killed thousand of innocent targeting every peace aspect and you still think he is redemable he is a psychopath who killed his whole family because his dad was strict and yet deku after all that wants to save him
