You may read the title and think to yourself, that does not seem right. Routines are a big part in the success of some people with autism. But for others, they can be harsh especally with OCD. The more our girl gets stuck in a routine, the more difficult it will be when something changes. This is human life, change happens all the time whether we want it to or not.

I'm in spectrum and really do like my daily routine. Don't like changes, specially unexpected. Changes make me anxious and overwhelmed. I like when days are stable and predictable. Best wishes for your family!😊

I’m autistic, and also NEED routines. But I see why: you’re gradually desensitizing her to change, which happens whether we like it or not. Good on you for not sheltering her; we need to learn how to adapt

I have a routine every day, but sometimes I change up every once in a while because doing the same routine day after day tends to be boring at times for me. Anyway, Braylee has come a long way and she even prepared her own lunch for the next day( With a little help from you and Stacy), I know that you’re both are very proud of her and so are we🙂👍! Thanks for sharing with us👍! Love you all and God bless✝️🙏🏻❤️🙂🌈!

Smart thinking to avoid routine. I'm 45 and stuck in some sort of morning/bedtime routine and if someting happens in the morning and I don't get my routine, I am cranky and off for the rest of the day. Same as bedroutine, I can't help it. Bc no one told me that it is better to avoid some routine. I try to do small things different (sometimes) when I had a good night, or a good day. Bc it is difficult if something happens and I am complety off for the rest of the day or night. Slowly change. So good for you guys to avoid it!

We can totally see how routines are helpful but unfortunately life isn’t very conducive to strict routines (at least in our case) most of the time. So we try to strike a good balance

Routines are so important for my brother's comfort and happiness. He is very much like Braylee in that respect. It's the autism piece with him but also part of his personality any way to be very organized and routine oriented. Now having followed you guys for a few years, I'm wondering if he doesn't have some OCD himself. He will fix curtains that aren't straight, pictures on the wall that are crooked, notice if items aren't where he is accustomed to them being. He likes to go out each day and be driven to various places he has requested to visit. It does not change at all. As far as food goes, he has certain meals on certain days. He has decided that Wednesday he will have a certain dinner and the other days of the week, each have a certain dinner. This doesn't mean to say that he doesn't adapt well to changes as long as you explain the change to him. My brother also creates his own routines that are important to him and that make him happy so we follow his lead with that. He has anti-anxiety medication to use if needed but has not had to use it for a very long time. A big key to his success is that he has been with the same roommate, service provider for 30 years who knows his personality inside and out. As a family we are beyond grateful for that.

I have always like routines, especially when my kids were young. I think they liked the routines, too. Sometimes it was fun to break up a routine, just do something a little different, but we generally stuck to routine. Even now that I am retired, i have my usual routines throughout the day. There is just something comforting about routines but i can certainly understand why you would need to be careful of that wilt Braylee because of her OCD.

Idk how y’all deal with the people in these comments, people are so fast to start typing and say oh you hurt my feelings or shame you for something YOU do with YOUR own family. If you don’t like the video don’t watch, if you disagree guess what that’s okay, people are so rude and so fragile that literally everything hurts their feelings. No way I could do social media in 2023. I think you guys are great and I think you do what works best for your family, thank you for sharing your life with everyone. I benefit a lot from watching you all and have taken away lots of things from your videos that I use to help my own child with a language disorder and problems with sensory processing🫶

I was just thinking about you guys. When I go on other vlogs I sometimes give little tips that came from working 24 years with children with disabilities. I find myself very rarely doing that with you guys be cause I learn instead from you. I probably did say stuff in the beginning but over time I learned that you guys are the best. You just seem to communicate with B with ease. You understand her or if you don't you think and think until you get it. B is so lucky to have you and so are we. Have a happy day.👍🏻 I wrote this comment, I swear, before I watched the video and then I hear you say, "I'd like to think we're good with her! Cue Twilight Zone music... do do do do do do do👽

Because I'm both ADHD & autistic, those two things kinda "fight" each other when it comes to routines. My autistic brain craves routine & my ADHD brain craves novelty & spontaneity. It's extremely hard to balance

Hey David and Stacey this was an interesting topic regarding Routines because it brought out a whole other side meaning if Braylee were to get used to a routine and then that routine changed It would be extremely distressful for her so I understand that, and that's a really great insight. But then I was thinking what about Mac and cheese? Is that a routine that never changes, or what would you say about that? Because I am pretty sure if you took away the Mac and cheese she would not like it one little bit and things would go chaotic in some fashion. So is it just by observation that the 2 of you decide is this becoming a routine that will cause her Strife if it changes or is this a routine like Mac and cheese which can stay the same? I would love to know the answer of that because it seems quite subtle on some issues. Thank you and have a great weekend

I see why you try to be flexibility in routines. For me, my asd routines help me not forget things and that then increases ocds. I have created 2 options. One for work days and one for non work days.

I remember the comment where you argue with me about why kids on the spectrum run away! It sickens me:( I’m autistic and I feel discriminated by you! Next time Please don’t argue with autistic people, it’s ableist besides autistic people are usually right about their own experiences. Also, how do you prevent meltdowns in her caused by changes
@TheWeeFamily
@TheWeeFamily 9 ай бұрын
I do not recall that conversation. I searched our comments for your name and could not find it. Could it have been a different channel that you are referring to? She doesn’t have meltdowns from changes anymore. Meltdowns from change are avoidable now because she is okay with change and she actually gets excited when we do new things and change things up. Especially when we do something that is something that interests her. The last time was the change from school to no school which is unavoidable. The most important thing for her during a meltdown is giving her space and making sure she stays safe.
