I believe your father is younger than me. I don't like hearing him say he doesn't like getting old, because it makes me feel older. I lost my dad two months ago. Enjoy the time you have to spend with yours. There were no video cameras back in the 1970s when my dad was teaching me to spin wrenches. These are priceless memories you're making.

Fantastic video !! You and your dad work so well together and you can tell in his eyes he is extremely proud of you and your skills. That is pure gold. On the other hand, that El Camino looks like it was cobbed together from a few other cars and painted with a roller. No matter for you and dad--you two will make it something anyone would be proud to own. Love the gas pump restorations. People pay serious dough for those. Go get 'em. Thanks for sharing the journey.

Nice work selling the Dodge! And of course I love to see the pumps, and on that note I love seeing the household appliances rebuilds too, like that washing machine. More than once I have had 'professional' tyre fitters insist it isn't necessary to line up the dot with the valve. Even when asking them to do it, they refused. So much easier to balance when it's done correctly.

I like the pumps that you have and are restoring. It is hard to work on cars during the summer, here in south Alabama it is hot, and the humidity is high making it difficult to work during the summer months until it starts cooling down in October. Enjoy working with your dad while you still can, my dad has been gone now for three years, I used to enjoy working with him on our projects as you and your dad are doing.

On all my tire machines they had bottom air jets that would activate when you depressed the air pedal all the way (half way for just regular air thru the hose) . You would lift the tire to seat the top bead, mash the jets (simulates an ether blast) and then let the air hose finish inflating the tire. Like the content!

Anything can be saved, looks to be a fun project for guys your capabilities and nice shop. Looks better already - it will make a fine Rat Camino, I like the '60 body style best on the El Camino. Just put a drivetrain, suspension and brakes, a windshield and the minimum for an interior and drive it as is body wise (well, new floors).

I agree with your comments regarding aftermarket parts. They are garbage.. I was the original owner of a 2000 Monte Carlo. The oil pressure sending unit worked perfectly for 17 years, which was a General Motors original part from the factory. When it failed, all that is available is aftermarket parts, which, are conveniently labeled “genuine GM”. They are not. I believe these replacements are made in Mexico of inferior construction. Buyer beware. I went through five consecutive ( aftermarket) oil pressure sending units, each of which failed, with the result of almost frying my engine each time from massive oil leakage, and having to be towed in twice. I have since sold the car, warning the purchaser about this problem! Thanks, GM for outsourcing your parts and labeling them as “ genuine”.

An old trick that I learned many years ago about when the brake drums are rusted and will not release from the hub was to squirt some brake fluid on the joint and let it set for a short while, you will find that the brake fluid eats at the rust, and you will be able to remove the rear hubs much easier.
