I personally LOVE both Coco and Encanto! But I think Encanto is more relatable for other Latinos, and that was the goal. The directors said they wanted to make "the ultimate Latin influence" and Coco was too centralized around its country like to allow people from say Cuba or Argentina to relate to anything in it. Coco focuses more on something that ONE Latin country can understand FULLY, like 100% because we don't all do Día de los Santos Difuntos like they do Día de Los Muertos for example. Where as Encanto has A LOT of family dynamic influence, generational trauma, matriarchal representation, hell even different Latin beats, and sooo much more, that literally anyone with a family and/or toxic family lmao can relate to. I think they are both some of Disney's best work to be honest, both great in their own ways! But it will always come down to what we relate to individually. 😊

I love Encanto waaay more than Coco. Coco is good but i feel like the ending carried the movie so much that you forget how boring the middle part is, while Encanto just flows from start to end. Songs are top tier, relatable and memorable characters with great comedy and drama. And it gets better after a rewatch when you realize how deep the lyrics of the songs and how genius the songwriting from the melody to the production.

They have the Spanish version where majority of the actors are the same singing in Spanish and acting in Spanish as well… it’s just your audio choice but Disney obviously made it English for the forefront

Loving that Disney is embracing more cultural diversity. Being biracial myself (Māori, Polynesian, European) Moana was a big deal for my culture, however I got bored of it and couldn’t find myself relating to the movie or it’s cultural ties at all. Coco was a beautiful story but I couldn’t find any emotional attachment to it, I expected to cry but I didn’t….but Encanto! blew them both out of the water, a family of Colombians but a family that many cultures could relate to including myself, being the black sheep of the family, the expectations of being the ‘perfect’ example, carrying the burdens of responsibility, and pushing your dreams and fear aside to make everyone else happy, because at the time it seemed like the right thing to do. And then the “Dos Origuitas” scene absolutely sent me, I haven’t cried like that since Mufasa’s death in The Lion King. I think there’s a reason Encanto is blowing up and dominating algorithms, billboard etc and likely or potentially fast tracked to becoming the biggest Disney animated film release, I wouldn’t be surprised.

Coco is beautiful and so is Encanto. Encanto wins though in my book.

I personally loved encanto so much more than coco, I just found it's message so important and relatable. In terms of casting, while sure you can find actors from their country, they need to be just right for the character. One detail that I really loved was how no matter what language the movie was in almost every character sounded the same, as if it was all the same people just speaking different languages. That's pretty difficult to pull off.

I'm sorry but they cast a lot of Colombians actually, like literally only two from the main cast are not Colombians but still Latino/Latina, Rhenzy Feliz and Jessica Darrow are Dominican and Cuban I think, and there's just no white actor/actress on the main cast.

Not all of Coco’s voice cast was Mexican either. Some were Peruvian, and Cuban.

I love Encanto because this movie can show more than Mexico and their culture is more similar to many countries like my country, Perú. I love the casts. Dunno why you didn't like an actress that was white, but she was Colombian and do an excellent job with his partner that do Félix's voice. Most of the cast were Colombian or have Colombian origins. It shows a variety of races and people and I love that. I also like the Spanglish they put and that they were speaking Spanish sometimes. I also like that they respect the pronunciation of the names and the Latino accent they put in their characters. The cast did an excellent job like Mirabel even though she was Argentinian, I loved her job. I dunno how many times I listened to Encanto's songs; they're so catchy. I think many of us could feel identified with one of the characters.
