I upvoted you guys there. I knew that place existed from a year before and found quite a number of useful stuff there. I would imagine most of your followers are not people who know that site so they didn't upvote. I think it's more popular among the entrepreneurial and open source people.

Thanks for sharing this, Rahul. Theres's definitely survivorship bias in business stories and it takes bravery to share this stuff. I'm reminded of HN posts which are duplicated several times over months and only intermittently go viral. Slightly different than PH, but this outcome isn't indicative of your product's quality.

I haven't done a launch on PH yet, don't understand the hype around launching on it yet (maybe it's not), please help me understand, does it really help to get a product launched on a place where there is a red ocean of other products competing for user attention or does it make more sense to use other distribution channels? I'm curious, what benefit does being in the top 3 products on PH give?

It depends on the product, but my impression now is that PH is not valuable for most companies. Very hard to get into the top products without an enormous amount of effort (and/or paying an agency to help), and the traffic spike from launch is always hard to maintain.

Good faith critic here (as I have already learned a lot from you, am in a similar position and obvs want to success and want Taro to succeed as well): why do you think you didn't do as well as you hoped? If you had the audience of $100k and PH is an amplifier? What can we all learn?

Great question, it's always worth reflecting. - Product Hunt is very game-able (to the point where there are agencies that help you with it). We didn't realize how important it was to prep our friends, families, and customers to immediately upvote us on PH. We thought a day-of blast would suffice, but we could have done much more. - We hacked together marketing materials over a couple hours. We didn't get outside help, it was just me spending a few hours in Figma. We could have done more work earlier to check that our content resonated with as many people as possible.

Beings humble try to solve a major problem of a community. Don't even waste your time to pick a narrow nich audiance. 🙂 1. Start a survey between deferent professionals. - pro tip consult a data scientist 💡 2. Build a whole production for future marketing, if you wanna grab a huge amount of audience. - I'm a random guy - haven't explored your channel yet. But I'll try to reach out to you soon if I found potential in you.

Curious what you don't like about shorts? I find it annoying that you can't seek in the video (like rewinding just a few seconds)

@@RahulPandeyrkp doesn't have focus by default, no full-screen, no audio control plus the one you said. the focus one might be an x11 bug, I'll use it to communicate with my mouse from time to time but the others are annoying.

keep pushing forward. We get tons of data points each week, PH was one. What's important is to look at the reasons behind a failure, and what the trend lines indicate.

Certainly people don't *want* to be rank #11 on the day they launch on Product Hunt? I also consider it a failure since our expectations were so misguided.
