@@lilithlee3731 mine too sadly. I loved to be able to play piano (actually, i still do) and the only instrument i had was my dad’s secondhand keyboard piano that he only bought cuz it was on sale when he was still unmarried (so imagine how old it was). They had me take the basic lessons when 6 or 7 yrs old first and then after that they expected me to continue with no more lessons or a new keyboard at least. Now, all i know are the leftover songs I could play as a child, or just play by ear, I can’t read sheet music.

I love my parents but they forced me to play their favorite instrument and invested on me with lessons and competition. Now I grew up and I stop playing it long times ago but still remember my childhood memories about instrument and I think I cannot play it anymore. Now I play my favorite instrument and finally enjoy music.

Lol I remember quitting piano lessons in high school after 7-8 years and my dad tried to talk me out of it by saying how disappointed my mom will be if I did. Its probably the biggest reason why I didn't touch the piano for years. I'm appreciating it now though. I just feel like if parents want to invest in their child's musical interest, they should follow it up with genuine interest in their child rather than what they can accomplish.

I remember pulling my first Yamaha keyboard from the attic that I got for christmas when I was 8, and when I saw it, I just had to sit down and cry for an hour straight. Never EVER get rid of this stuff. It's prime material for your origin story. It'll make you remember things you thought you forgot. It's not even a nostalgic anchor, but more like a talisman for happier simpler times.

Brett: “Not like it matters to you guys” Me: :'( This is kind of like a little get together with your close friends and reminiscing about the past. My friends and I would usually do that sometimes, especially with my best friend and it just has that vibe. I love those moments of being able to look back and talk about our memories and point out little details and stuff we had over the years. Especially childhood memories of what they did as a kid. I want to listen to the story of their knee scrapes, their first pets, the accident to their scars. When Brett said those words, its like being in a close knitted group and a friend pointed out that we don't care about their hobbies or the silly little trinkets they keep and treasure that makes us see what molded them to what they are now. I don't think anyone that have stuck out this long in your channel is any different from me. We do care. :') And I'd just like to let you know that.

4:33 Cassette tapes are litteraly definition of my childhood! My parents had old radio and box of tapes. When I was just a few years old I sat down beside that radio and I could listen old songs for hours. Just imagine 6yo listening to all these 70's, 80's hits and dancing to it xd (DON'T JUDGE ME, my love for classical music started a little bit later). Thanks for bringing this memory back

4:32 "Do you guys even know what this is?" 😀 Yes - it's what I used to listen to music on in the 1980s, on my 'Walkman' (not a Sony, some other brand, but we always referred to it as a Walkman anyway). What a nightmare when the tape ribbon was caught and it used to chew, and we had to gently untangle it and get a pencil to wind it back up again. I love this journey down memory lane!

Neat video. I didn’t play an instrument growing up, however I was in choir. In high school, our choir and band always went on a Spring trip and I went the two years we went to Disney World (Disney was every three years so I was in one of the classes that got to go twice). In college, we did little Spring tours each year. My violin journey started as an adult. From about 2012 until 2019, I tried learning on my own, very inconsistently. I started lessons in 2019; I’m almost done with Suzuki Book 2 and will hopefully start book 3 soon. I also am using the Doflein method beginner book and have a Christmas book and Disney song book as well.

Good for you! I also did not began playing the violin until I was an adult. It was something I really wanted to do so I did it and I absolutely love it. I’ll never be a pro (not even close), but I don’t have to be. I simply love the violin. Since studying the violin, I’ve really enjoyed being a part of a community orchestra. One of my past violin teachers said they love teaching adult students. Adults are very busy so when they choose the violin they are very focused, they’re spending their own money and adults don’t have to be encouraged to practice. The same is true whether you’re learning from a teacher or learning it on your own. Although the violin is a challenging instrument, I hope you love playing it🙂

Brett’s tiny-ass bow is reminding me of this one time my senior year of HS. We were working on the 3rd movement of Benjamin Britten’s Simple Symphony (Sentimental Saraband) and the 2nd chair 1st violin-we’ll call him Ben-accidentally forgot his bow one day. None of the violins had a spare bow, so our teacher pulled out the punishment bow: a 1/16th size bow. The thing was 12 inches max. It was adorable. “Ben” is fairly tall, so this bow was about the length of his forearm. So every time I would look over at the concertmaster, “Ben” would be in my line of sight and I’d catch him attempting to use this little Lincoln Log, and I would crack up.

My violin case when I was 5 was similar to Brett's but with an ugly cheap green felt inside. Also my piano teacher made me do the scrapbook thing just sticking in photocopied sheets of music inside. I covered it with contact like I did with all my school exercise books. Ah the 80s lol. (btw I can't play either instrument anymore lmao).

I think I had that Yamaha kit as well!! Mine was from early to mid-90s Japan. There were a bunch of tiny black magnets included in the kit and we'd put them on the music sheet on the back of the lid to learn which note goes where. The square shaker/maracas thing had been in my room for at least ten years... I finally got rid of it a while back, but hey, I still remember it. Thank you Brett and Eddy for such a wholesome video!

I really love nostalgia, even when the memories don't belong to me :) It was nice to see you both looking back on your history of playing violin. Your video led me to go down my own Memory Lane. I found my clarinet, books and practice log that it turns out I last used on 17th May 1995. The cleaning cloth, reeds and some now-green-tinged cork grease were still in the case - I'm not sure whether to try to play the clarinet or do a bacteria swab-test on the contents first...!

Seeing those stickers on Brett’s starter violin made me realise that every great violinist starts somewhere just like everyone else, and it is an immense amount of practice and dedication that take them to great heights.
