We Found RARE Dire Wolf and Bear Teeth Underwater in a Florida River - Florida Fossil Hunting 🐺 🐻

This was another great adventure. My buddy Kyle and myself set out via canoe on the river to do some hunting for Pleistocene vertebrate fossils here in Florida! We did a little snorkeling and exploring the beautiful freshwater springs here, then moved out to the river to fill buckets and sift for the remains of long extinct prehistoric animals. The main finds of the day were a dire wolf premolar and a bear molar, but we also got giant armadillo fossils, camel and a bunch of other cool stuff.

I am a grandma in Kansas. I have 3 six yr old grandchildren. We just got our 1st fossil book and have found small fossils in landscaping gravel. I wanted to say thank you for making the things I like cool to my guys. They love you and Kyle. We have adventures as often as possible and have many more planned based on your videos. Liam wants a kayak and to learn to scuba dive. They are learning to read and the studying fossils and geology make it fun. We ordered water shoes for this summer for creek walking. One of my favorite things is that you encourage and demonstrate the need to not litter. We love bugs but not litter bugs. They love your silly masks and I love you love and utter joy of nature. Stay safe and tell Kyle howdy for me.

Hi Jen! Thanks for the comment. Let your grandchildren know that Kyle and I said hello and good luck fossil hunting! Kansas has incredible Cretaceous aged fossils. Oceans of Kansas by Michael J. Everhart is a great read, although it may be a little advanced. Everhart also has a website by the same name where you can learn more about Kansas’ Cretaceous fossils.

Also, when I refer to a bear tooth being a "carnivore tooth" I am not talking about diet. I am talking about the fact that bears are from the order Carnivora.

Just saw this video and recognized the yellow Tidy Cat bucket you were using. I was head of Marketing for both the Tidy Cat brand, and the Cat's Pride brand of cat littler, two rival companies. I conceived and brought to market the use of the plastic bucket for the Cat's Pride brand, and it was such a big hit with retailers and consumers, that every other brand of cat litter rushed to introduce the same bucket container, including Tidy Cat. At the time, my sales force did not think the bucket would catch on, but they were wrong, and being the first to introduce it, our business grew nearly 50%. Thanks for the fun memory of my marketing career. I retired in 2022 at the age of 76.

That Nemo is awesome! It looks way less intimidating than traditional scuba. I love swimming and snorkeling the springs with their shallow rivers and the calm waters of the gulf. The thought of bulky scuba messes with my anxiety, though. It has to be awesome to be able to stay underwater, unencumbered with a line directly to the surface. Also, I was unaware of the speckled bears. Mind blown! It was like the day I found out we has tapir and camels except, I knew those existed in other places. Btw, good dw find. Did you say, you thought it was associated with your last two finds?
@PaleoCris
@PaleoCris 4 жыл бұрын
It is a pretty cool, innovative little piece of equipment. Yes, the wolf tooth I found here is definitely from the same wolf as our other finds from this spot. I also have a spectacled bear canine I found here, probably from the same bear as Kyle’s molar. Part of the fun in all this is how much there is to learn!
