We Found SKULLS Dumped on the Side of the Road!

This was a very different kind of adventure. We hunted a ton of areas along the sides of roads where people dump all sorts of odd things, including bones and skulls. We saw tons of trash, tried our best to clean up much of it and did manage to find a bunch of different skulls and skeletons. Many of these were both heart breaking to see, but also exciting to find since it was the objective of the hunt.

@@TheSmallestViolin horrible yes but the animal is already dead, I prefer that than killing an animal only for taking a part of him. I found a dead boar still warm on the side of the road. I took him with my husband, we cut all the meat and gave it to an association for homeless people and gave the fur to an artisan to help his small business (leather and fur craftsman). It took us only 2h to cut the body entirely and it provided 53kg of meat for the homeless people, we also gave the bone, fat and organs to them for their dogs.

@@justing5034 I’m sympathetic to that. I don’t think this was the case of a pet owner euthanizing a sick and beloved pet only to later throw them out with piles of trash on the side of a road. @athelwulfgalland 3 жыл бұрын
@@deereating9267 I figured as much as well. The medium sized mix breed was probably used as a warm up. The large Rottweiler looking skull was probably severely injured in an actual match. No matter how liberal and advanced our civilization seems it remains a thin veneer. It will remain so, so long as wars and blood sports still hold a place in it. What did you make of all the boar, pig and deer skeletons? Poaching? How do you typically process/discard the offal and skeletal remains of deer you hunt?
@deereating9267
@deereating9267 3 жыл бұрын
@@athelwulfgalland Perhaps oddly, we don't hunt, we film the animals on our property with game cams and watch them doing their own animal things. I've seen animal skeletons dumped on rural roads all my life. People in rural communities often process their own meat and dump the carcasses. It's not that uncommon during deer season in my region to see deer carcasses everywhere. Responsible people, who own enough land, bury or dump the offal on their own property. Dog/cock fighting makes me positively ill, there must be a lot of money in it.
@athelwulfgalland
@athelwulfgalland 3 жыл бұрын
@@deereating9267 Sorry, I misinterpreted your username! Pretty much the only carcasses I've come across have quite obviously been the result of road kill. That said we have township dumps that are not under any form of observation so it's possible that evidence of poaching or dog fights might be conveniently discarded using this lack of oversight. Incidentally this region has a history of dog fighting. In Moorhead Minnesota, very near the Red River of the North, is a stone lined pit that was used expressly for dog fighting in the late 1800s. Historical accounts even state that on occasion a number of dogs would be pitted against bears in that pit. Could you imagine?! Thankfully it's been illegal for many years and it was unheard of by the 1980s. It's entirely possible that criminal dog fighting rings have reemerged though. For more than a half century there was a tradition of migrant workers among which many had immigrated from nations where dog fights were considered to be a part of their culture until it was outlawed a few short years ago. During that time they didn't have the leisure time to establish such dog fighting rings or raise the animals for it since they traveled light, had to make the most use out of minimal living space and subsisted on a shoestring budget. However Minnesota's legislature essentially buried the lifestyle of migrant workers in the mid-1990s. Many, though not all, opted to settle in North Dakota and Western Minnesota due to the lower cost of living relative to Texas and Washington after that. I simply can't imagine that all would abandon the prospect of a low cost, high return, venture. Especially when it was considered a perfectly normal part of their culture during their upbringing. Nevertheless I share your sentiment that cock and dog fighting is a sickening practice, just the same as bullfighting, but that just goes to show that our cultural values differ from person to person.

Very neat video! And thanks to both of y'all for cleaning things up. I had a couple of friends years ago who were field biologists, both the husband and the wife; they worked in the desert in NV and would pick up bird skulls and small mammal or reptile skulls, clean them out, decorate them and put them on their Christmas tree every year. The tree's "star" was an osprey skull wearing a Santa hat with red LEDs in the eyesockets. ^__^ Out here in SE Arizona I've found wild horse bones, deer, coyote, and roadrunner bones, and once I ran across the weirdest thing: several dozen steer skeletons, all missing the skulls but otherwise complete down to the hooves. They were all in one small area, NOT a corral in sight, and showed absolutely no signs of butchering; I wondered if somebody had killed them all when they showed signs of disease and had kept the heads to bleach out and sell-- tourists love cowskulls. Me, I do a bit of artwork on bones now and then too; I have two professionally-cleaned skunk skulls ready and waiting for some inkwork right now.

yes I want more of this please I love it and I do this myself but it is quite hard to do this in the UK but still it's fun to find someone that has the same hobby as me of course I only find full skulls cause there won't be any bullet holes but my best find is a fox skull that I actually found in my back garden whilst I was cutting the grass it was so amazing to find it I brought it inside and dad was like wow well done you'll have to clean that but yeah loved this video love all your videos and keep up the great work

With my luck ,I’d fill a bunch of bags from cleaning litter and a cop would pull me over thinking I was dumping it.

This is my home town. The 1st bridge you guys went to they used to bottle spring water at it. Many many years ago. The last bridge you went has alot of historical history down the creek. There is some awsome places to find fossils around hear. Thank you for picking up some trash.

Oh my gosh i would be losing my mind😱 i LOVE finding skulls and those are just phenomenal! If I'm lucky i get about 2-5...per year🤣I do a lot of skull carving, only ethically sourced ones, but they are a lot more scarce here in Montana. And definitely no hog skulls up here! Glad to see other bone fanatics out there! Love your channel!

That’s awesome, love the skull artwork. What does make me laugh though is I’m watching an amazing video from the US in Australia which I’m going to share with my sister in England cos she loves skull art too. Amazing work and huge respect for the cleanup you guys were doing 👍

Respect and good on you two for picking up some of the trash. It takes a special kind of dirt bag to dump trash in the woods, roadside, etc. Tell Bri to be careful picking up those skulls without first ensuring something venomous isn't living inside. Great video, def would like to see more!

It is so sad that they shoot the deers just for it antlers and dump the rest of the body there. I would not be so angry if they used the whole animal but no they just want the antlers which i hate.

They don't ! They use the meat and discard the rest to keep scavenger animals from coming near their home .

I have never, ever seen someone shoot a deer and just take the antlers. Ever. And the Awwwws when you find a coyote that's been shot in the head? Ask the baby calf that got eaten alive, or the old deer in the winter that could no longer stand had it's rectum eaten out to get to it's guts while it's still alive and watching if coyote management is a good idea. They would answer YES! And a head shot? The most quick and humane way to manage coyotes period.

I was rockhounding last week and found some we small jawbones. I sounded very much like Bri. I haven't yet decided what to do with them. I also have a room full of skulls that people have gifted me with (cool friends): cow, goat, coyote, elk, deer, some exotics from a hunting ranch, even a very old alligator. I haven't decided on how to proceed with them either. As soon as I finish painting my bedroom I think I will just hang them on the wall for now. Bri, you are a girl after my own heart.
