They have a section in the show called “do we need ‘em?” Karl rings up scientists and put forward the argument that some species should be made extinct. He quite often confuses the scientists.

That story did happen in 1930, the announcer said "there is no news today so here is some music". Sadly with 24 hour rolling news they now have to create a drama to justify their existence. I would love if we could go back to "nothing happened today so here is some soothing panpipes"

A cat o is an old navy whip with 9 whips that looked like cats tails that was kept in a bag so they would say don't let the cat out the bag. Of course it means keep a secret like during the war people never spoke out in the open and if they did someone said careful the walls have ears meaning German spies.

I’ve been listening to Karl for twenty years and my best way of summing him up is karl ‘misinterpretation’ Pilkington. By the way, stones are an imperial measurement, 14 lbs in a stone. Im surprised you don’t use them in the States. They certainly aren’t metric. Great video as ever, peace.❤

They eventually got Karl (not Karull) to leave the radio station and then they started recording the podcast episodes themselves. From season 2 of the podcast they switched from podcast to audiobook as Apple didn't let them charge anything for podcasts. Got 'em hooked by then!

At the time of these recordings Ricky and Steve weren't really all that 'big'...The Office had only just been written and Gervais had only done a little bit of stand-up and a few bits and pieces. The first XFM run was 2001 around the same time as the first season of the office...and most of these clips are probably from around 2002-2003.

Karl starts with some truth and just goes nuts. He once talked about Londoners having exotic African pets, which there was a store in downtown London that sold them, and two dudes bought a lion in the 60s that they'd later release and re-unite with. However, he went waaaayyyyy out of the way to make up a hundred lies telling the story
