HFY is a story/series that takes a “human element” in either humanity or an “other” (race/species or object) that exists in a “setting” (future or other world/universe) with varying levels of culture, technology, society and history that help show in some shape or form the potential good or bad for humanity’s race/culture. In These stories Humans are often referred to as Human, Humanity, Deathworlder, Hellwolder in reference to the human planet of origin , Earth. This planet is seen by most of the universe as a place where only death and chaos can survive.

Humans Are Space Orcs (HASO) or Humans Are (Fantasy Race) Are used as a guide when writing.
In these Stories we normally View humans like the other races view orcs in a Fantasy Novel. We (Humans) share the same characteristics and personalities as orcs. Humans are normally treated as the outsiders and barbarians. Humans tend to be underestimated as well in these stories. Unlike Humanity Feck Yea , these don't always put a positive spin on humans\humanity sometimes looking at the darker side of human and humanity from the perspective of aliens.

Based on the data from earlier expeditions, humans already did that and presumably failed to get useful data (most likely destroyed by the xenos themselves), it possibly cost lives as well. Suspect they decided to stop risking losses and just use simple triangulation instead. Personally, I'd have at least arranged to have them followed through multiple systems (as long as they were not inhabited) as that would get a more useful reverse trajectory.

Partly because blowing the thing up is emotionally satisfying, partly because the xenos had probably destroyed all navigation data on previous boarding actions so its not worth the risk.

@@darwinskeeper421 As if losing a few grunts would make any brass or politician lose even one night of sleep, even more so considering the prize. And 'they might destroy all navigational data' _might_ be true, but in a situation like this it's absolutely no argument.

Cows, ostriches, pigs and whales also have a decent cemetery on their account. So you're on the same intelligence level as those aliens.

Absolutely, even more so since humankind seemed to have _far_ more encounters with them. I honestly wonder who is more stupid here, the aliens or the humans in that fleet. I mean, this is expedition #73 and they blew _all_ just up, without getting intel from even _one_ ship? Smart looks different.

@@Zael_Moonblade Agreed. But _73 expeditions,_ man, that is a lot of ships. Even more so since 'expeditions' at least heavily implies not just one, but at least a couple of ships being vaporized every single time. Are there no commanding officers? I mean, at all? Also, considering human nature, realising that an alien species is breeding human beings for food would cause humankind to pull out all the stops and do whatever is necessary to find their homeplanet, ASAP. Which also means specifically _not_ giving this task to the most unintelligent, lazy, ignorant, egotistical pig of a grunt one can imagine.

We had procedures for destroying any classified information before abandoning the ship. If that included destroying any maps of the way home? Not my area of responsibility, but probably.

One should still think that with 72 alien expeditions being destroyed, the humans should have been capable to gather at least _some_ useful information concerning the origin of those aliens. Even more so since they just seem to swarm the place.

@Alex novak The standard procedure for our drills was using a shredder or a burn barrel, or if the ship was going down really fast, just stuff everything into some weighted canvas bags and chuck them over the side on your way to the life rafts. Not a perfect system, but it was better than doing nothing at all.

@@donaldscholand4617 But we are talking about scrubbing computer systems, which is surprisingly difficult to achieve. Even more so when we talk about a caste system, which seems to be in place here, and with only very few selected individuals having access to said systems. Considering that the humans wiped out 73 expeditions, which at least implies more than one ship per expedition, then human forces look more than just a bit inapt here.

This story was horrifically bad. Humans have had 70 odd ships to capture and interrogate the crew and they've done that exactly zero times while knowing that other humans are being used as feed stock. Is this supposed to be satire or a form of trolling?
