So this is when leasing on to a bigger trucking company works. It works for me even when things are slow, I always get more than enough miles to pay the bills and make a small profit. Plus I do not have to waste time searching for loads or pay maintenance on trailers. Still independent and still in trucking..

It’s faded and gets awesome fuel mileage,this hoop tee we drive is like a go cart and we love it, we don’t care and what people think… we have other vehicles, but, don’t drive them much… I have gotten myself in a position not having to worry about money and it feels good to be debt free and all your cash goes to you… praying for you and the family, god bless and keep that awesome spirit up that you and your family have !!! My two cents. I grew up in a family where Dad was out of town, a lot.... for work. Mom held down the fort, and the bills got paid. As a kid, I missed my Dad, but understood how hard he worked for the family. As an adult, I understand that he had to sacrifice his time at home in order for our (5 kids) family to thrive. "freedom" is a lovely concept, but the old school idea is that we sacrifice in order to earn the money needed to support the family. A good partner can raise the kids, and when the home time comes, make the most of it. Your kids won't love or respect you any less if you're on the road as a hired driver or leased on 24 nights a month. In other words, there's a Plan B to the Uber idea, but it involves letting go of millennial ideas of "freedom," and remembering what our forefathers did, and sacrificed, to raise their families

@@ckryegrass11 A good point. Just by getting into the trucking carrier or O/O business, one has to know that it is highly cyclical; good years and recession years, and years in between. Loading up on depreciating assets seems to be a curse of the millennial age; far better in life to own a decent but frugal house, not a lot of toys, and to raise kids in an environment of frugality, vs. excess. Kids really don't need lake houses and custom motorcycles in the garage. I also question moments when his wife (while J is on a Uber run for $5.00, asks him to bring home sushi. A bit of a financial disconnect there.) seems to have expectations about finances and family that may need to adapt to more frugal times. Because he's reasonably smart, and a hard worker, he can claw his way forward, but he may need to jettison any costly expenses on the balance sheet, and shift into work that brings more revenue, though it may keep him away from home at times. Life is about sacrifice if you want certain things; let's see if J and his wife are ready to do what it takes to adapt to a new economy. I'm not picking on J; this applies to all of us.
@ckryegrass11

@@nagaexpress9998 Yessir. We all “want it all”, but at what cost to “have it all”? Agreed on all points. He will find a path forward. Sadly, many guys are out here thinking that biding their time and waiting for the good time to come back is the answer. I parked mine and hired on 1099. Grossing 13k minimum each month. Looking to buy another truck and sell the one i have to get into a niche market as we speak. Only a mad man would think the anomaly years we just had are gonna repeat in the near future.

100 percent agree. How is it Rusty Cracker youtuber can make runs from Jacksonville to the west coast and make money. My nephew has a brokerage and up until a few months ago a couple of trucks running. He got rid of the trucks because of driver problems. I asked why he never went to northwest and was told there's nothing coming out of there back east so not worth it. This is Justins problem. He wants to stay in his area but there's no back hauls. Don't be fooled he is living off of KZfaq right now but people are not going to watch as much because of the lack of content. I sense a fire sale coming. I know what's going on with the brokers and the pricing. Do you remember those 4k-6k dollar loads for a 1000 mile run during the start of covid? A little payback is what I was told.

Gotta do what you gotta do. Tell ya what, if you get a Sienna, I can’t say enough good things about the limited trim. My wife has a 17 limited with a giant middle row sunroof that opens, and the middle row captains chairs recline WITH extendable ottomans that come up like a lazy boy. That’s only available on the front drive though, not all wheel drive for some reason. But it really gives it that executive feel for middle row passengers. Probably a great way to grab customers from the airport. Good luck with it!

I had a friend tell me Friday he's hanging it up. He's been trucking for over 20 yrs and has had enough. From shippers and receivers not caring how long you sit in the dock to high fuel and cheap rates. He used to go out west every week and back to Minnesota for 10 grand now he's getting 8 and fuel hasn't changed very much. Same loads, just got cheaper. Big companies cutting rates. My son pulls a step deck, went to Texas from Iowa and back to Minnesota 2 weeks ago for almost 8 grand, last week he did almost the same distance to Texas from Iowa and back to Minnesota for 6. His dispatch had a heck of time getting a backhaul this time and it only paid 1700 on 900 miles. Reminds me of 08 when I was still an o/op and couldn't get out of Texas for a buck a mile and paying 3.50 for fuel at the time. I'm glad I'm not in it any more and glad my kid didn't buy the truck he's drivin. I feel your pain brother and wish you luck!

LOVE YOUR FAMILY! I wish the very best for you and your family! A friend of mine did the same and making a killing! He was a truck driver for 15 years and gave it up to be with family!

I door dash when my truck is parked and I'm home. My ole lady does Uber eats when she has free time with my daughter and my 20 year old son does the Uber drive after his day job. Everyone produces in my household. Doesn't matter how you get it as long as you're surviving in times like today's times. Just to think that it might get worse just gives me that extra drive to keep pushing forward.

No shame in providing for your family. Me and my wife have a side gig that we have had for a few years. We have never felt comfortable putting all of our eggs in one basket. Honorable is the man that will do what is needed to keep the lights on. Praying for your trucking business and you and your family.

One additional Point. Don't forget to check with your insurance and make sure you have a Rideshare Rider on your insurance policy. That every insurance companies offer it but it could make a big difference if you are driving and they find out after an accident

We are very similar Justin, used to be an Uber Driver in the SF Bay Area also with 10,000+ rides, and now struggling with these ridiculously low rates. Loads are flying off the board lol we can't compete.

I quit OTR trucking. Went local and home every day, work 5 days a week. If I ever hit the lottery, I'm building multiple trucks and basically will have my own trucking museum in a garage 😂

Look into a KMT Waterjet or Flow Waterjet. I work in shipping for Shape Technologies who owns both of those waterjets companies. Both have small waterjets pumps. You would be shocked who owns waterjets. One of the people is Jay Leno.

Love the positive attitude and getting creative for sure. Wondering though, maybe I missed it and you already addressed it, but wondering why you would leave trucking altogether. Why not lease on to a bigger carrier. One that has contract freight. Most carriers accept owner operators with their own authority or you can work under theirs if you don’t want to keep your own. Anyway, you let them book the freight and take care of the collecting and all that. Depending on the company you work with, you can make 70% - 92% of what the load pays, without all the headaches or concerns with running solo right now Could do that until the trucking spot rates recover. Just an idea…seems like it would be a reasonable option that would keep your income higher. Like I said, maybe I missed it if you already addressed that idea but was just curious. I’m nor judging what you’re doing, we all need to do what is right for us. Your attitude is everything and you’ll do well no matter what you do. Keep on keepin’ on regardless.

Spot has no freight because carriers like I'm leased to have drop yards full of freight. We're 98% Drop Hook. My avg net 1.90mi. Some Avg $2+. Avg FSC .70mi loaded. We don't do brokers , all Direct . 3k mi a week is standard . No forced Disp. Target, WalMart, Quaker, PepsiCo, Sterilite, General Mills, Harbor Freight and more. TOP Driver last yr made 240k Net. . Contract loads are consistent. Brokers arent .

Lol, I've quit trucking a few times. It's always there when I need it. I have thought about Uber type gigs. Up around Lake Tahoe they make great money if you got 4wd and not scared of the ice and snow.

I'm a trucker. I did Uber prior. I took a break before the industry flopped. FMCA legislation are on the forefront. One of potential laws are Brokers won't be able to double broke anymore. Minimum load rates. Hopefully, the trucking industry bounces back soon.
