Vows outside, being a New Englander, you might want a tent or overhang just in case it rains. Pumpkins, gourds, Mums, cornstalks, fall flowers are deep and colorful. Are you dining indoors? Where is the sun? If you have a photographer, ask...they usually can pick the best location for photos. HUGE congratulations on your upcoming wedding! Your cottage and grounds are something out of a romantic storybook.

Congratulations to you both! Wilbur needs to be part of the wedding, ring bearer sounds great,,also I love the wooded back drop, but you have many beautiful places to choose from, the arbor would fit nicely in that square area that looks like a place the garden must have been, again so happy for you!

Put patio lights out in the yard for the wedding - that'll look pretty! Yeah, even the driveway will be a pretty back drop because the golden/orange/red leaves will look like a pretty carpet.

A gazebo canopy! We were married October 24th then a year later our daughter was born on October 24th. If we had planned it that way it would have never happened. It was the best 1st anniversary gift we’ve ever had. I like the idea of the gazebo type canopy on that square and everyone facing it. Then after the ceremony, pictures by the little bridge. Also, white bow tie on Wilbur carrying a basket with your rings if you can get him to do that. Much happiness to you both and may create many wonderful memories together. 🤵‍♂️👰‍♀️🐕‍🦺☘️

Congratulations on your engagement and forthcoming wedding. The backyard with the rock and the cottage would be wonderful and you could have your photos on the bridge. I think that Wilbur should be the ring bearer - he would be perfect for the role. When it comes to flowers Alex, you could use seasonal flowers and if you have anything in your garden flowering at around that time then you could use them..

Congratulations on your engagement! I think the rock is a beautiful focal point for an “altar,” nothing else would be necessary. It would bring nature into your ceremony with no need for an arbor or whatever. You could clean brush out from around it and add flowers so it stands out more.

Ideas ....A tent with heaters . Hot cider on tap in a party size coffee pot. Autumn will pretty much decorate for you, but if you're thinking earthy, potted hardy mums would be darling....and if you plant them, they'll come up as wedding reminders year after year.

I think that the house even if it’s very pretty would be very fussy in the pictures as a background. A beautiful nature backdrop would make you both stand out . Congratulations 🍾

I’d chose the open field as the place for the ceremony considering what time of day and where the light shines from so the ”altar-side” is light but people won’t have the sun directly in their eyes. The fact that there’s a view to the distance behind you will give symbolism and make you stand out against the scenery, and the backyard could be set up for celebrations afterwards and if be beautifully lit for a magical evening vibe woth the surrounding trees and house giving it a cosy fairytale woodland feel. That way everything can be arranged and both scenic areas used, and you won’t need impromptu rearrangements between ceremony and party/feast/dancing. It might be pretty to think of portable waterproof led lighting under the stone bridge and in spots of the brook, and low outdoor candles/ paraffin torches on both sides where you cross over it for the evening. Less is more imo in a landscape this beautiful. If you do intend on having an enclosed tent arrangement for the reception/party though, I’d switch things around and have that set up in the field and the ceremony in the yard with only the trees in autumn colors as the backdrop for your vows. In a ditection where the light shines through the woods, (not the same as I’s choose in the opem field as peoples view in the woods won’t be obstructed by facing the sunlight, and the colirs from the trees will be lit. Come October it will be easy to create paths by simply using the fallen leaves and the grass, raked areas vs covered in leaves as natural guides. As far as floral areangements go I’d avoid cold pinks and too formal looking angular or construed arrangements and either go all in for falls jeweltones or simply keep it offwhite and green, and organic. An old Swedish tradition for festivities in summer is cutting young saplings or branches one or two inches thick of birch trees and tyo g them to each side of doors and entrances, and sometimes sticking them in the ground to create a pathway. It’s a good way to use the youngest trees one might have to clear from areas of the woods anyway, and the white bark of the birch is very pretty and romantic, the leaves small and scattered (yellow when they turn in autumn). Since green dominates a forest scene it might be nice to consider contrasting with red lanterns which are always a warm and romantic symbols of love. They will glow very cosily when the light dims. If I was a woodland bride I’d want a bouquet of pretty whimsical and not too chunky greenery with blooms reminiscent of woodland and wildflowers. Deep blue and white anemones, cut garden roses in different sizes (like English tea roses) rather than the regular cultivated formal ones florists import from Argentina etc. I’d skip the baby breath and usual boring traditions that would feel out of place if they grew in your garden. Chose kinds you might consider planting there or could imagine are related to a find in the wild. small lillies, heather, lavender, or other blossoming herbs, a spray of tiny orchids, bluebells, and farmed grasses like wheat or barley are all very pretty in bouquets and grow happily in your surroundings. Also various ivy and ferns fit straight in, and could be picked from your property for arrangements. I’ve used Parthenocissus tricuspidata for many festive occasions in fall, I think called either Boston Ivy or Virginia Creeper in the US, as they turn spectacular colors in the fall from green to orange to deep burgundy, and grow looong single lengths of 8-9 feet very pretty as a meandering centerpiece on a set table with flowers and tea light here and there. These are found at your plant nursery center, not your florist, and also where they may be planted around public buildings and parks is usuall fine to take from as they grow many yards every year and usually need cutting back anyway. As you may have guessed I used to do floral arrangements for galas, events and festivities. Just a few thoughts. Regardless of your choices of details, your wedding will be held in the most magical spot! And dear Wilbur will be the BEST ”Best Dog” ever! Being a retriever he’s also do a great job as the ring bearer I’m sure! Just train him to come to you with a designated little washable fabric pouch, and have someone let him off lead when it’s time from across the path to where you are and he’ll do an amazing job and produce smiles all around. ❤️

Good idea to have multiple events and interacting with others in this lovely space! I can visualise wooden tables and chairs, typical country cottage looks … lanterns by way of lights and lots of leaves and flowers, hay bales of course.

My wedding was in late November, so a bit later, but it was in CA so the weather would be similar to a fall in Vermont. We chose pine boughs down the center of the tables, tea candles, and pomegranates…but pine cones or the small Cala Lily’s in the gorgeous rich fall tones would be beautiful. They come in deep burgundy, coppery orange, yellow, and many other fall colors. It all sounds wonderful, congratulations. I’m sure Wilber will look handsome in a snazzy plaid kerchief. 😉

We married on Oct. 14, 1970, at 7:00 P.M. in North Ga. Mountains at my parent's resort. The leaves were stunning as we married in front of the lake. We had our reception in a very large open Pavillion with a huge rock fireplace. The path that I walked down for the wedding was lined with white flowers and the path to the pavilion was lined with fall-colored flowers. On the inside of the pavilion, there were a lot of fall flowers on the fireplace mantel. We used copper accessories to pop the fall flowers. Everyone said that my wedding was the most beautiful wedding that they had ever attended. I stayed in the house all day while my friends and family worked to make all of the beauty happen. I was in total shock when I saw everything they had done for us. It was absolutely stunning! My suggestion to you is to marry close to the cottage. The bride needs to make a grand entrance. If she has on a long wedding dress and high hills she will have a hard time walking on the rocks and the bottom of the dress will get nasty. The shorter the walk the better it will be. The first area that you showed us with the cottage as the background would be my pick. Congratulations to both of you as you start a new path! I am sure that whatever you decide it will be gorgeous. No matter where you choose, you can't go wrong! Choose multiple locations - one for each event. That way you will incorporate much of your property into wedding photos and videos which you will have forever, and future generations will have a record of the life you lived. Your cottage and property really is so picturesque you don't have to do much to enhance the atmosphere. I would choose a variety of mums they make a spectacular fall display - especially against all the green. Definitely have a canopy because weather is so unpredictable. Lots of lights. As for receptions, you are saving so much because you have such a ready location, I would splurge a little on food - the best place to splurge! I would do tables and a buffet for the family reception and bar tables and really delectable pass around appetizers for the friends reception. All done!

Oh my gosh, congratulations! What time are you getting married? It gets darker earlier in fall. You could get married right at dusk and have the reception with lights strung through the trees. Candles and flowers on the tables. I love sheer material strung through trees with lights instead of an arch for the ceremony, easier to put up and take down. Also the sound of the water with your wedding vows, fantastic. I would pick the prettiest backdrop for the ceremony itself like the water, bridge area and a different location for the reception like the back yard that way some peoples tables and chairs would be facing the cottage and some the trees which would make for great pictures. I’m so excited for you guys!!!

First off, congratulations!!! Wilbur can be the official greeter, when appropriate. If the ceremony is intimate, then having everyone face the cottage from the backyard would be lovely. The rock and birch trees would also make a striking focal point. Pictures with the brook in the background are a must, facing outwards instead of towards the cottage. When you have the reception for your friends, you could use the field for games, fireworks, or a bonfire, depending on what your preferences are. I can only imagine the night sky will be beautiful from there. (My husband said parking, but what does he know.) As far as the bouquet goes, I personally love using lots of greenery in bouquets: seeded eucalyptus, magnolia leaves (green and russet on the underside), Scottish thistle, perhaps. If you decide on seasonal colors, add a splash of purple (stems) , some red hypericum berries, even natural vines, depending on the look you're going for. Either way, it will be a beautiful ceremony at your lovely cottage!

Congratulations. My daughter and her pilot married today at Thorncrown Chapel in Eureka Springs AR. It’s a beautiful glass chapel with forest surrounding it. Reception will be later also. Just the two of them as they wanted. Do it your way. It’s your day.

Hey guys we had an outdoor wedding too. Congrats. Maybe have the ceremony in the yard but facing the woods in the direction of the big rock, that way people will see the woods and a bit of the cottage. Also where your garden is you could maybe plywood over that for a dancefloor (use that wood frame) I would put a nice big 40x60 tent over the yard that way if it does rain u can still have the ceremony ans party there. We used smaller tents for the music area and bars/food. And definately get some strings of Edison bulbs to go EVERYWHERE lol. Amazon has some great LED strings. We also bought those paper chinese lantern globes of amazon and used soft white battery operated Leds inside them and hung them everywhere for Night time. I can give u links to the lanterns and lights if u want. Exciting stuff. October is going to be Amazing.

Congratulations! October would be such a colorful month to get married in. Pinterest is your place for great ideas. The place where you exchange vows should have the cottage in the background or at least on the side so it’s visible. The guests would then be looking at it behind you or still have it in the peripheral-vision. Dog as ring bearer would be a way to go.

You have so many beautiful options! Have you considered having your guests in a circle or 2 semi circles around you to take in all the views? Have the ceremony in the place where you were standing filming the last part of the video. Groom walks in from one side through the woods and bride from the opposite? Could be very cool!
