🤔😯 Ohhhh, I've watched this SO many times and never put that into it. I have believed it was Nate reflecting on his life and maybe how he did things, but THAT line makes the parent part of the puzzle fit in place in my head! THANK YOU!! So many ways this could be interpreted... totally different without the video.

What everyone is saying is correct, NF is reflecting on himself. If you go to 3:31 in the video you will see the words REA on the older version of NF tattooed on his right arm same as young NF's REAL MUSIC (Before you hear the words Nathan). He does this again on the search album with his song Nate. Great Reaction as always guys

NF is very REFLECTIVE. He’s always looking at himself (mirrors in his songs) and thinking about what he could have done differently or better. When you see the rewinding in his videos , he is ruminating. Also in this song, when he says “go to your house, sit on that couch,” - Mansion, he’s talking to himself - therapy couch…..etc etc. I could go on and on…

This song is such a powerful song. In the chorus it is supposed to be NF's dad point of view and the verses are what Nate feels about his dad. Thats why in the end of the video the old man sings the chorus for the first time, bc NF feels like his dad would only tell him 'im sorry that i let you down' in the worst case scenario (nates death).

I don’t know his intention with this song, but I interpreted it as being about his parents & himself at the same time. Kind of touching on the idea of generational trauma and that a lot of us “turn into” our parents when we get older - including the bad parts. Also got a sense of how if someone grows up being made to feel like they’re not worth being saved or helped when they’re in a bad place, then that’s how they’ll view themselves. The dad watches him drown/burn, doesn’t do anything to get him the help he clearly needs, and then when confronted he brushes it off with “well you think I let you down, but what could I have done?” And that maybe when he grows up internalizing that and he reflects back on it, instead of faulting the people in his life who should’ve been there to protect them, he blames himself for how things turned out & not being his own “hero” so to speak.

Nikole T dude. Ok so i havent watched their reaction yet but I know this song and video VERY WELL. The way you broke it down is exactly how i perceived it as well. This song is what convinced me to reach out to my parents after years of no contact (their choice). Needless to say, it did NOT end well but I'm proud of myself for trying. I still have a ton to unpack and deal with trauma wise from them but its been on the backburner since I had my kids. Kinda crazy but the last few days I've been hearing my "dad" come out of me when fussing at my kids. He is the absolute LAST person I want to be like. I swore i would never treat my kids like he treated me. But here i am 36 years old raising 3 kids by myself and instinct/muscle memory from childhood came out of my mouth a few times....however, the difference between him and me is that I acknowledge and apologize when I "am him" to my kids. I also don't beat them senseless for no reason. Or beat them at all. My approach is totally opposite than my parents on purpose. Because at the end of the day, my kids still love me and respect me. My parents will NEVER have that from me or my 11 siblings. Thanks again for the breakdown. Now I will watch the reaction yay!❤❤❤ BlessUp!

I'm 43 and have been running from my demons for so long. NF has been a part of my motivation to finally go to therapy. She told me last session, "What I want you to reflect on in the coming week: begin to find a way to tell young Sandi that you forgive her, knowing she did the best she could with what she wad given." This video hits SO DAMN HARD having reached this point myself. Great explanation.

The whole song is a metaphor to his life and what he has been through. My interpretation of it has always been a song towards himself and what he has been through, not necessarily about his family; he has always been hard on himself, and expresses it through his music. I might be wrong, but that is how I take it. Stay real guys, and welcome to the outcast family.

Ok I was super excited for yall earlier when I saw the ad had to post now I have watched the video and as always great reaction I seriously constantly look for new uploads from y'all. Kyle you do not have to explain why you get how you get during your reactions matter-of-fact you never need to. My husband once explained to me that he thought when God says," Let us make man in our image, in our likeness,......." he understands that to mean less physical and more in terms of God's nature which makes more sense than his physical at least to me so don't ever feel you need explain to anyone how wonderfully God made you. I could tell you felt this down deep and I too feel deeply when someone is in physical pain it actually makes me nausea I get physically ill so I completely understand. Ok the feelings aside I so appreciate that yall don't research or look any info so many reactors it's obvious they watched it before and the reactions aren't genuine so I am super appreciative. I just want to take a moment to appreciate you guys and truly truly just appreciate it. I've listened to each and every NF reaction you guys have had. I've listened to a lot of NF reactions and followed other people's journey as they go through the "NF Journey". Some because of the hype and energy, some for the critical analysis of it, and some for the music aspect of it and it only ever opens my eyes more and appreciate NF's Genuis mind and wonderful work. You guys wrap that all up into a nice present with a bow on top, in my opinion. But I've had to privilege to follow you guys through your own journey and I gotta say, this is my absolute favorite journey I've ever followed and watched through (so far) and I honestly don't think much others will match that. I absolutely love your chemistry and how you guys just compliment and amplify eachother's reaction. Picking eachother's minds a bit, and letting the words just hit, showing emotion and going back to appreciate the lyrics. Honestly, what you guys are doing is amazing. Keep it up 💖 and see yas in the next NF reaction. 👏 💯

This song has multiple layers of reflection as far as I can tell. Nate is reflecting on his past, present, and future (hence 3 voices of various pitch/maturity on the chorus) BUT he's also demonstrating the struggle of not wanting his life (past, present, or future) the reflect that of his parents, specifically, his dad. In a way he's telling his younger self that he's "sorry that I let you down" whilst also using that to portray his dad coming along later in life to make amends saying the very same line. There's a couple lines in the end of this that refer to that exact conversation "put my smile on" and such. What's really interesting is that this shows Nate was already contemplating who he was, and more specifically, who he'd be as a parent... and ironically, he's now semi-recently a dad. Really interesting to see it all come full circle in a way.

Ok I've already commented twice but I was watching yalls reaction again and I agree with yall it's how a person perceives music it relates to us all differently depending on what's going on in our individual lives that is why music is so beautiful. That is why Freddie Mercury and his band mates have never revealed the meaning behind Bohemian Rhapsody they will all take that to the grave I like to think it was to not ruin what the song meant to each individual fan of it. Guys we all have scars from our childhood even the ones we think have perfect lives carry scars it's impossible not to get a few but that's what makes us all so incredible we still keep going because the world keeps going NFs music relates to almost everyone who listens that's why when I hear someone say they don't like him I always ask if they even listened his skill aside the message hits hard.

So the identities of his parents are not publicly known, but if I had to guess I'd say his father's name was Johnny. The reasons for this thought are that NF's middle name is John, and if you remember back in Intro 3 he said "I wrote a song for Johnny without you, but he ain't gon' like it, let's see how he takes it." and I think this is the song he was referring to.

This song is my relationship with my parents, mostly my dad, except he's definitely not sorry or regretful of any of the abuse he's lobbed at me over my almost 50 years of life. He and my mom absolutely watched me drown in depression and repeatedly threw gas on the fire by telling me what a disappointment I am, how lazy I was, that I just made their lives hard. I probably would've killed myself if I didn't have my son. I got better when I moved out and I've kept low contact with them until recently, thinking in their advanced age I we could get past a lot of the bullshit. Nope. Peace in our family means someone has to be dad's disappointment punching bag and that has always been me.

The older man in this video is Nate in the future. The song and video is a whole imagery of him telling Himself that he is sorry for letting himself down, as in every aspect of life. It is not about his dad. Love watching this journey! U guys rock🔥

This song is a double meaning and Nate said that he likes to do that with some of his videos because music is subjective. He said it is mostly about him reflecting back and questioning his life at times. ie, talking to himself.

This is about his early life when he had to move in with his father because his mother's neglect and possibly her boyfriend abuse there a lot grey area in complete details but he was quoted in a interview in 2017 saying in regards to the meaning of the song "It’s just about me growing up feeling like I didn’t really have much of a voice or I wasn’t being heard. Now that I’m an adult it’s just me expressing some feelings I still feel but also feelings that I’ve worked through. Through my life from being a kid to a teenager to being an adult now it’s like when you go through those phases and when you look back, you look at it a lot different like when people say you look back at your past when you’re older and you look at things differently it’s like such a real moment for me right now."
