KEH offered me $62 for a brand new unused over $400 Nikon battery grip, $72 for a D3500 body with a shutter count of 126 and $165 for a Nikon D7200. I sold the grip for $210 on ebay, the D3500 for $325 on Craigslist and the D7200 for $550 on Craigslist. KEH is a rip off!

MurrayNJ08 well they are ugly but work. Always read the description to find out what the wear and tear is on the item. I’ve purchased a bargain lens before but the glass was perfect. I can say there 9 looks almost new. I just purchased a 9+ camera 3 weeks ago and it was near perfect. And ordered a like new minus LN- yesterday. Remember, you can always order it and if it’s not to your liking they return no questions asked.

@@MurrayNJ08 I bought two vintage Leica lenses from them in "Ugly" condition. One was in good condition, the other was pretty "ugly." Looked like someone had vomited in the lens barrel. A good CLA took care of it though, was fine after that.

I recently tried them for the first time just this last month, and they were great. Communication was constant, both via email and phone. One lens they valued lower than I had expected, so they sent that one lens back, but otherwise it was a seamless and fabulous experience. Definitely going to use them in the future.

I agree with eliminating the hassles of Ebay type selling. I use B&H and their buying process is equally easy and I’d highly recommend them too. Like KEH, you get an immediate online quote, and a free shipping label. The prices I’ve gotten are similar to what I’d have gotten on Ebay, without the uncertainty or hassles.

Great video describing how simple the process is. I sold some of my loved but not being used Nikon cameras and lenses to MPB recently in a similar manner and the process was very smooth and hassle free. They wired my account the money in three days once they had received my gear. I received about 40% of what I paid for the equipment new and the items and were 3-5 years of age in mostly excellent condition. The only hard part is the remorse of seeing old friends depart but it is like ripping a bandaid off, best done rapidly. I’m glad someone else will now get to use the gear because it sat lonely for too long. I have purchased used from KEH, MPB and Roberts and they all were very reputable and fair. Thanks for sharing your experience and your very helpful videos.

Knowing I was planning on getting more gear down the line, and did not need the cash right off the bat, I took store credit at a local camera store here in Seattle. Ended up only having to pay 1/2 the cost for the canon pro 1000 printer before the mail in rebate, which after the rebate money out of my pocket was just about $400. And trade in means not having to deal with scam emails and people trying to get it for nothing.

Yep they give you a quick quote but will offer you much less when they receive the item. They will sell you something that they rate very high but it could come to you as if it wasn’t cleaned before they sent it. I have returned an item before but wondered if it had been inspected. And if you choose to have a check sent, you may need to back with them to see that it has been sent. This has been my own personal experience.

If you have a lot of gear to sell, I have found (from experiences while going to trade-in events with friends) that you may get more for your gear, or if you're looking to simply trade for another camera (used camera) or lens. Then you might get more, but in my experiences trying to trade in gear to places like KEH or B&H, they'll give you one value, and then find a raeson they can't give you the value they quoted you, once you send it in, and usually the value is considerably less. Like the Z6 I ended up trading into Nikon. They quoted me $680 and I sent it it and was given a revised quote of $600. Nikon said it was worth $700 + a $300 bonus trade-in if I bought a Z6 II or Z7 II, so I bought the Z7 II and basically got $1000 off a new Z7 II.

I have sold all my gear in Facebook groups. I've never had a problem shifting it (the longest I waited to sell anything was 2 weeks but it was an L-series and slightly uncommon piece of Canon glass). Mostly, I've advertised in the morning and it's been gone by lunchtime. I will see if the same is true when I part with my beloved X100F to make room for an X-T4 (I need the video capability) in a few weeks.

I have an excellent EOS Canon digital camera and lenses to sell as well as a fine quality 35mm Nikon F2 and lenses and a pristine 2-1/4" sq. camera and lenses which I hung on to after getting out of the biz, years ago. I sold my film bodies and some old lenses, along with some miscellaneous gear from my Son. There was lots of old stuff. Each piece was examined and fairly priced. It was at a local show sponsored by my Bricks and Mortar store. BONUS was a 10% increase in value if I took the value in a store credit. I bought a new lens, a camera bag, and a 5 in one reflector/diffuser and a dual battery charger and have $155 left over. My shelves and old bags are empty, And I've got a leg up on my next purchase. The KEH Rep was friendly, knowledgeable to work with and, all in all, made the process fair. I bought my first digital gear from them and everything was far better than the condition indication made me think it would be. KEH is a real credit to our industry, really!

One other option that I have found useful is a local Craig’s List. Last year I successfully sold my Nikon D5200 with kit lens and then sold four other Nikon DX lenses to separate individuals for decent prices in order to help cover a new Nikon Z6 and four FX lenses. There are security issues with dealing directly with buyers, but I live in a medium size population area and had only successful cash transactions with really nice people. Some of the transactions occurred at a local McDonalds to mitigate risk by meeting in public.

I use mpb.com, great experiences. I can highly recommend them. I might check out KEH next time. WARNING: NEVER sell high end camera equipment on EBay. You will be ripped off. The buyer will ALWAYS say the item is "not as described". The idea is to get a partial refund, basically extorting money from you. Or the buyer can use your equipment as a free rental, shipping included. Ebay will not support you as a seller. In fact they will issue the refund even if you say no refunds accepted in the description and/or you have solid proof (the photo's included in the advertisement ) the buyer is wrong. "Not as described" is the catch phrase the the scam artist use, EBay backs them 100%. And worse yet NO MATTER WHAT THE CONDITION THE ITEM IS RETURNED IN or even if the buyer sends back an empty box (as long as there is a tracking number your screwed). The buyer can take a hammer and smash it to pieces, send it back and you will still be responsible for the refund AND the shipping. Sorry if this bad, but be especially weary if they have a New York address. Ask me how i know......

Getting rid of old photography gear is pretty easy. I don’t have a lot of stuff to begin with but do change my gear over every several years as technology changes. I amortise my gear by 20% per annum. So if you’ve had a film camera for fifteen years, though loved, it is basically worthless, to the bin. I have bought some new cameras for my wife but she also gets “hand-me-downs”; still useful high quality cameras that may be a little dated. Other cameras I’ve given to young people at the church as a full kit, camera bag, UV(O) filter, cables and cords and a photography book as an educational item for them. In each and every case from the bin to family, to the kids of friends that equipment is always joyfully received. That’s my system anyway.

I have always used mpb.com which is based in Britain but, I think it is now going international. Sounds exactly the same service. I have to say I have sold a lot of stuff and they have never downgraded my evaluation and always given me what they quoted. Mostly what I do when i want to try out a different system is I buy basic end used stuff from mpb to use for a few months then sell it back to them buying top end used (or new) stuff in an upgrade or deciding to try a different system instead. Problem with gear reviews is they rarely cover all the stuff i want reviewed (new features are stuff I turn off) and the only way I know to evaluate stuff is to buy it. I guess I am treating the service as a rental system where I own the stuff while under review. About time I prepared another parcel I think, I have some Nikon G lenses to get rid of as I am only keeping AF-D stuff having switched to Panasonioc and Sony. Yeh mpb must make a fortune out of me I just got rid of a Leica kit - winks

Selling recent gear to KEH is okay. Selling vintage or specialty camera equipment to KEH is generally a bad idea in my experience. I deal in mostly 4x5 large format equipment and KEH almost always undervalues the items by 20-30%. Although selling on Ebay is a hassle with crazy buyers and sellers fees, shipping, PayPal fees, etc...I almost always get a what my items are actually worth. Selling a Sony A7rIII to KEH? go for it. Selling a Nikkor 90mm f8 large format lens? I'd take a hard pass on KEH.

I've had that problem before (not selling gear that I said I was going to) but these days, when I want a new piece of gear, and especially if it's upgrading something, I tell myself I have to sell something to get something. So when I bought my Z7 II, I sold my Z6 (I had a Z7 and sort of wanted two cameras that had the same resolution, but didn't make sense to buy a second Z7 gen 1 body, so I traded my Z6 in during one of the promos NIkon had to get the Z7 II, which saved me about $1000). Of course if I'm buying something new (like a new lens) and I Don't have anything else I can "trade in" or sell, then I just buy and that's it. But I also don't go crazy about camera bodies. For example, now that the Z7 II has pretty much the same features as my D750 and all the other cameras I've owned (mainly, a grip option, dual card slots) I'm set. I don't foresee myself buying another camera for quite some time. I have the Z7 as a backup, and two other cameras for more specific purposes (a DSLR for wildlife, and a Fuji for street/urbex). But my primary system is the Z system. I would rather spend more money on lenses, and trips, than camera bodies. I figure a camera body is good for at least 5 years and probably more like 7 or 8 if you're not doing professional shooting and always needing the latest technology (I'm not, this is just a hobby). But lenses last a lot longer and I've seen people shoot with the same lenses for 10-15+ years. So I'd rather put my money into lenses than bodies so I just don't buy a lot of camear bodies. The bodies I have to day are going to be my kit for a while (like the next 5 years). I've reached a point where I'd rather spend less on gear now (now that I have a decent kit that covers many FLs and is suitable for a number of genres of photography) that I'd like to travel and experience things, rather than amass more gear. As I always tell people, gear will come and go, but the memories, experiences and photographs you get from trips and vacations, those will stick with you forever. So I've weened myself off of gear. The only time I might buy a new body is if the old body is damaged and it's not financially feasible to repair it or doesn't make sense to (for example, a body that's 8 years old that's only worth $500, needing a $300 shutter).

Keh rated my items "ugly" when B&H then rated them at 9+... I've bought stuff from Keh, but they under-rate, great for buyers, weak for sellers. I sell at B&H or FredMiranda's Buy & Sell forum.

Hey, I am planning to buy a canon 70-200 f4 is version from keh. What I'm worried about is that I'm from India and will I be getting a reliable Lens. If I don't it would be a hassle to return it. Also I don't know much about the customs fees I have to pay.

I bought my D810 thru KEH. Initially, I was over-the-moon when I checked the shutter count and found 24K. Then I tried to tether and that didn't work. The micro B port didn't work. I sent the camera back and asked for an exchange. The 2nd D810 had 125K shutter actuation's. I wasn't so thrilled. I don't believe KEH thoroughly checks the camera's they buy. That's good for the seller but bad for the buyer. At least, I believe that's what happened in my case.

I said it on Matt Granger's video and I will say it hear, after seeing a few of you guys recommend KEH I called them and got the most ludicrous and insulting quote ever on a camera body I was thinking of selling. I'm going to call them again today just for the hell of it to see what I get this time.

I got an 18mm f2 with an xpro 1, locally for $350 .... I wanted to ditch the lens and didn't care about how much KEH offered me. The original quote was $90. After the evaluation it was $180. Sold! Got an xpro 1 for a final price of $170! I've purchased from them in the past and their grading is very generous for buyers. I typically purchase bargain grade products and they've all been in very good condition.

I have bought and sold items from Ebay. My friend sold his camera on ebay. It was a Canon 5dmkII w lens. I know the camera stores have to make a profit. He would have gotten a little. But he got a large amount. I got a Nikon D 7500 for $450.00 I still have my Nikon D 7100 lens too many. But I have used E bay alot.

I liked your video and thought it was time to sell some of my gear.. They offered marginally reasonable amounts on 2 Leica M bodies... That being said I accepted their offers and they said the check is in the mail... 5 weeks later the check is still in the mail.... I cant seem to either get an answer on the phone and emails get a canned reply of out of office... 5 weeks and still waiting... Not sure how I feel or ?????

One alternative that I didn’t think about originally is checking with your local camera shop and see if they do consignment. You tell them what you want to sell it for they throw it in the display and take 30% of what it sells for. If you doesn’t sell or you don’t like the offers you just get your gear back.

I never sell my gears. I never buy what I do not use. I buy only what I need and like. Hence, all my gears are sacred and have sentimental values like reminders where, when and what was I when I acquired them beginning with my Kodak Instamatic 126 film camera.

I have bought many cameras and lenses from KEH for nearly 30 years. They are easy to work with and buying online is a snap. Most times the gear is in the mail the next day. If there is any problem with a item their return policy is quick and efficient. They have my trust completely. I have bought from all the retailers and for used equipment KEH is the best by far.

Naturally I took the precautions of meeting in my bank ( safe zone ). And of course got stood up a couple of times, my bank is 3 minutes away so no big deal and well worth getting $1,030.00 more for my gear

You didn’t sell it to them, you gave it a away with the prices they( all used camera companies) offer. I’ve bought a few older DSLR’s for grandchildren from MPB.com and they’ve been in better shape than described. Listed a Nikon D50 as VG condition and it was mint in my book. Same with a couple D40’s. Great company. Never bought from KEH but have heard good things about them.

Mpb and KEH offered me about 30% less than EBay average selling prices so I tried EBay. I sold over 8k in camera bodies and lenses and only had one issue with someone that had buyers remorse on a D750 which was too complicated for them. They returned it and I quickly resold it. I have had zero other issues and think Ebay gets a bad rap from the community. My favorite place to buy equipment is fredmiranda.com as it's a photographer's exchange without any fees. It's hard to get a seller's account and takes time so I have not sold there. I also purchased from mpb and had great luck

I have both bought and sold with KEH and it has always been smooth. At first I was "disappointed" that the value of my "treasures" was less than the prices I saw on Ebay. But Ebay is fraught with risk from bad actors who buy gear and then complain there is a "fault" with it. It is not worth it. Same goes from buying. The conditions KEH says the gear is in is correct and they offer a very clear return policy. They are the BEST
