True about good teachers .but I bet the teacher felt good as a teacher with this pupil. Rather than other pupils texting friends under the table. Etc you can only teach if pupil wants to be taught. I.E. you can lead a horse to water but you cant make him drink it..also love the comments of other old school traders. Makes me proud to be in the game.

I'm 65 years old and coming to the end of my working life. I've been in the motor trade and latterly the brewing industry, both of which I've enjoyed but I do wish in hindsight that I'd followed my late Father into the construction industry. This young man is an absolute star, not only is he an articulate individual, he's heading for the top of his game. With chaps like him in the game the construction industry is in safe hands. I'd really like to shake his hand and thank him for his dedication to the British construction industry. I'm envious of him. Thanks Roger for bringing him to our attention.

Going by what Elliot said he’s about to start his 3rd year at the carpentry trade ? In Ireland apprenticeships in bricklaying ,carpentry, plastering electrics etc are 4 years duration . They are made up of mostly onsite work and block releases to institute of technology (i.t) . When I served my time in the early 80s most guys would start serving there time at age 16 or 17 and be out of there time at 20 or 21 ,by the end of your 4 year training period you’d be expected to be capable of working independently. Elliot looks like he’s going to be a good one . I suspect he’s capable of doing the whole of that roof independently. Beth skinner ( who would be out of her time by now ) is an impressive bricklayer and Darcie from rattle kings who’s only at the bricklaying trade I think just over a year is very impressive .very confident person . From the outside looking in at mostly English based construction channels the word apprentice seems to be used very loosely . I wonder how many of they guys being referred to as an apprentice in these are actually properly registered and following a definitive course to being qualified tradesmen . Very little I suspect . Especially in the bricklaying trade it seems to be mostly laboring they do .

What a joy to see the enthusiasm shown by Eliot and Dan. I have recently retired from 20+ years teaching carpentry in an FE college (previous 28 years in industry) and the greatest job satisfaction from teaching is to see young carpenters developing their skills and eventually completing their qualification. A big pat on the back for Dan who is willing to spend time with eliot to explain not only how things are done, but why they are done in certain ways. Too many employers do not spend time with these apprentices and need to remember what it was like when they started out on their journey. Well done Eliot, I hope we can follow your progress with Dan.
