Roll centers and polar moment of inertia. The lower the weight is the harder it is for the tires to lift it, causing the tire to press down into the track to move that weight. The closer the weight is to theoretical center of mass of the car the easier it is to change that theoretical center of mass with suspension adjustments. That way you can adjust the car without actually having to physically move weight.

Great explanation , sled pullers are a good example of weight placed on a chassis used for leverage.

Was actually thinking the same way...more weight upfront so it could nicely transfer to rear wheels at launch instead of it being already at the rear which will transfer to nowhere. Your experience has confirmed that theory, thanks for the great info.

It depends on what you are doing with the car though. I run 160-300 pounds in the bed of my car because I put my car on the street and not the track. Plus I know a guy who has a blazer and runs 400 pounds on a real no prep and whoops up on everyone

This thinking is correct for well prepped surfaces but not for the really popular super slick, rough asphalt small tire no prep racing. These cars are all adding hundreds of pounds of weight as far back as possible.

Do you think weight bias should change with a lighter car?

I see a pass in 2 segments. Hook and Acceleration. The whole purpose of a suspension is to temporarily transfer weight to the rear so the car hooks. After the tire hooks, it needs to accelerate. And If you add weight to the rear, the tire won't accelerate to its full potential, which explains why you're slow AF 😂

so.. i have an IRS car. 800bhp. the no prep track im on hase worse than asphalt traction. you cant put down a 150bhp launch...... So what im getting from your video is put the weight in the back? my car never has or never will wheelie. dosnt make the power.

55-58% nose weight was a big secret in the radial world back in the early 2000s once mickeys came out.. no prep most i know shoot for 50-52% on the nose. Most dont get how a cars dynamics can change with just moving 5lbs around..you might stand it on the bumper one hit an just sticking 5lbs low on the nose can make it barely hoover the fronts on the next hit or how pulling 5 off the rear an sticking that 5 on the front makes a 10lb swing.. you should go over starting line ratios next..the late monty smith him self opened my eyes to this back in 07/08 an letting the tq do its roll in accelerating you an also intern lets you apply the power faster with the right ratio.

I've always thought the 50/50 weight bias was great for road racing but a 55/45 front bias was better for dragging. The lever action around the rear axle being the main reason. If you have too much on the rear of the 'teeter totter' the front won't stay down.

How about when you spend $8000.00 on billet Gen 1 94mm Garrett turbos for LDR and then three months later the powers to be change the rules to only 88mm turbos and then a few months later Garrett comes out with Gen 2 turbos and your brand new Gen 1's are worth half the price. What should I do? Sell my Gen 1 94mm's at a huge lose? Buy Gen 2 88mm's for another $8000.00 or more? Or let my car sit in the garage and collect dust an watch everybody racing on utube?

Take all of this with a grain of salt or a large serve of glue on the track as is the case is for radial cars that run excusively on a "radial track prepped surface" with the tires literally glued to the track... A Pro-mod chassis generally scales up 50/50 as an example of a high power door car without a front weight bias. No small tire no prep guys who are winning are running 62% weight on the front of the car, to that matter no NPK cars are running 62% on the nose either... NONE. Radial and No prep or No prep small tire are three different beasts and the same set up will not make a good car for any two let alone all three.

Don't put weight in the back then you say don't put weight in the front. ??
