Thank you so much. I am going to load 25 pallets (40,000lb.) in California today. So you have just given me a ready solution exactly for my load. You also helped me a lot to understand the loading principles. Thanks again

Thanks! Just this little bit of insight into axels tells me I've been loading pallets "backwards" for my trailers. The un-educated tendency is to start with the tallest and heaviest pallets in my selection loaded first. But clearly this can make for a lot of work for the driver. Warehouse never sat down new hires to explain CDL considerations like this. One department know the 45,000 lb figure but isn't really into lightening that trailer nose as a practice. Our side of the building does not even have a scale! We're under the pallet weights you describe for produce but we just did a load of plastic plates and cups which we did weigh out in the 800 lb range per pallet. This is going to have me re-think where to put furniture pallets. Our manager pushes for 26 straight pallets for each pickup or they think something went wrong. I think I have to keep asking for a wrapping turntable and now a scale for our salvage outbound.

Now the funny thing with the 800+ lb pallets we were shipping. We fit 26 into one of the trailers and sent it. With overhanging product we get the last pair right inside the lip of the dock plate. Receiver came back hinting we were being less than standard and wanted us to find a way to do 28. We normally don't do all sideways loading because most of our resellers tell us they're unloading with a pallet jack. And basically we have no dock-side documentation to tell us how to go to 28 or 30 per trailer with, like, upper management approval. My middle manger said, 'fluff it' they're getting our normal 26. Turning them all sideways or doing pinwheel is just a huge time hassle for experienced operators and a mess of learning curve for a beginner forklift operator; we've had managers choose to not have a mess of busted pallets (or torn sidewalls) and just say straight on is the way to go.

Excellent man!!! This helps me communicate more intelligently with the loader/shipper when possible.

I just started doing shipping and recieving at work, usually the loads we send out don't total to more than half the max weight allowed on a trailer. Its rare a single pallet weighs more than 1500lb and we never double stack because its rolls of paper. No one ever explained to me load distribution... so this is good to keep in mind

Thank you for the video. I’ve been trying to find one like this. I usually do light 1st 12’ (3 rows), then heavy. I was trained that way. There are most I work with trying to tell me they do 1st 4 rows light. I’ve always done 3 w/o hearing much complaints from the bosses. But I will keep the 8800# in mind, since we load refers only. We also do 30 sideways with no problem. I’d like to know your opinion about split axle. All I do is try to go even lighter in the nose.

Glad the video was helpful... I am not sure about the split axle, I never pulled one... But my uncle used to have a split axle and he swears that they are the best way to go..

lets say its only 20 pallets. you put 15in the front leave a gap in middle of trailer and other 5 go back tward rear axel. would it make a smoother ride?

Question: When it comes to staggering skids loaded side by side, is their a rule to go by? Does it matter which side you stagger to first, etc. All info received grateful for and thank you.
@truckertrash69429 ай бұрын
It doesn't really matter which side you stagger to... You can also put more weight per foot or more weight in the nose if you space them out... Example being... If you have five 4,000 pound skids lined down the middle in the nose, you could leave a 8 foot space and line six more 4,000 pound skids down the middle and it will weigh out...

Single in the nose, double to the back.

I would single-double-single-double, could do that for about 1st half. You can’t do single then double-you’ll be overweight in the nose. They’re over a ton each!
