Excellent content. Thank you. One clarification, i can use power bar and hybrid barbell for any type of barbell workout? Whats the length of hybrid barbell my rack width is 45 and i am looking for 56inch barbell, the 51 inch shaft always knocks the rack. I will use it for home. And i dont want huge collection of barbell. Just recommend one please

What is the width between the innermost rings and the outermost rings in centimeters on the powerlifting bar?

Great explanation! Why does the Powerlifting Bar not have center knurling though ? Don't you need center knurling for heavy squats ?
@superdrew8564
@superdrew8564 2 жыл бұрын
he doesn't have a powerlifting bar on the rack....he has a crossfit/multipurpose bar (top) and an olympic lifting bar (bottom). Centre knurl is specified in powerlifting rule books, meaning a bar is not allowed to be used in sanctioned competitions if it does not have centre knurl. IWF bars in competition are allowed to have a passive centre knurl, not sure if its a requirement though.

@@superdrew8564 My gym has an olympic weightlifting bar as shown here in the video but it doesnt have that centre knurling, so is it still an olympic bar or something else ?

@@abhisheksathe123Yes it is an olympic weightlifting bar. Bars with a center knurl are powerlifting bars. Bars without the center knurl are weightlifting bars.

I actually have both bars my BOS bar has the one ring and the other company I order from in Florida has the two rings. The BOS bar has more aggressive knurling

The rings for powerlifting are not only the IPF standard... ALSO its because there is a MAXIMUM grip width in powerlifting for bench pressing. If I recall correctly the max is your index has to touch the ring. No offense to this gentleman, i'm sure he is nice, but it did not seem like he knew what he was talking about, maybe do research next time OR get someone who knows what they are talking about.

It was clear he's clueless since in his opinion the main difference between bars are those rings in the knurling. When the real difference is bar springiness and sleeve spin, which he doesn't even mention...

Are the “rings” or marks just so the lifter has an idea where he or she is placing their hands or in IWF / IPF are their requirements to have ones hands inside or outside of the marks? Say for IWF snatch, do your hands have to be outside the IWF marks? I just lift for fitness so it really won’t affect me, but just curious.
@deniscales
@deniscales 2 жыл бұрын
Regarding the IWF, no, there are no rules with hand placement. The rings are just a helpful guide.
@superdrew8564
@superdrew8564 2 жыл бұрын
for powerlifting (not just bleh IPF) yes the rings mark max grip width for bench press. The spacing of the hands shall not exceed 81 cm measured between the forefingers. 81cm is the distance between powerlifting rings. 81cm = 31.88 inches.

@@superdrew8564 So if someone in a powerlifting competition has extremely long arms and has a natural and comfortable wide grip he/she can't place their hands outside the marks? Interesting. Wonder how they came up with 81 cm....is it just an arbitrary distance or is their some scientific biomechanical justification behind it. Guess I should look it up instead of asking youtubers lol.

Bar thickness standard for Powerlifting is 29mm and weightlifting is 28mm for men and like 25mm for women. If you are talking about sleeve its 50mm which is almost 2”

Very bad video, causes more confusion. Let me clear things up: 1. There's no powerlifting bar in this video, the one on top is a hybrid (multi-purpose) bar for people who want to train both weightlifting and powerlifting. They have a mix of bearings and bushings usually, the bar itself is mildly springy. Highly recommended for all-around amateurs but not ideal for snatches and cleans due to stiffness. 2. The IWF (weightlifting) bar has bearings across the sleeve, spins like crazy, and is as springy as it can be so you can snatch and clean like a god. 3. The IPF bar has bushings only or a mix of bushings and bearings, the bar itself is very stiff, ideal for bench, squat, deadlift. Both powerlifting and hybrid bars come with the double grip marks, so the confusion is understandable, but IPF bars will never NOT have a center knurl. Only hybrids. Most IWF bars also have a mild center knurl usually, although it's not needed or used in competition. The rest of the details like how aggressive the knurl is comes down to personal preference and training volume, can vary between the same type of bar even within the same manufacturer (Eleiko IWF comp bar is super rough, Eleiko IWF training bar has mild knurling). Coated / uncoated is also besides the point and is not a differentiator between types of bars, i.e. you can find coated or uncoated variations of most bars. If you plan to do powerlifting go for any bar really. If you plan to do weightlifting try to get a bar specifically for that as the springiness and spin make a huge difference in feel. 15 kg bars are a cheap way to get springiness at a lower price since the 25 mm thickness makes it naturally more bendy so the quality of the steel matters less while still keeping it springy. With that said, I own 3 barbells right now, and my next one will definitely be an Eleiko. Could have gotten one to begin with, the 3 I own right now put together cost more than 1 Eleiko but that's ok, I'll use them for deadlifts and land mine work. I do own a hybrid 15 kg bar and it's by far the springiest and spinniest of the bunch, and is also amazing for warmups. Its 20 kg bigger brother is significantly less springy, even though it's from the same manufacturer. I initially got it for my girlfriend but I'm using it more than her lol.

Also the ring placement for powerlifting is for bench reference in the IPF. You can either be inside the rings or if anyone one of your fingers is placed outside the the rings must be covered and not be visible to the head judge
