If you're just starting a garage gym buying barbells can be overwhelming. You have general purpose, olympic, powerlifting, weightlifting, trap bars, hex bars, curl bars, curved bars, etc etc. How do you know what barbell you should buy?

My gym has just been renovated and every bar has no centre grip. It’s annoying. Now that I’ve just found out that it’s because cross fitters “don’t like it because it hurts their shoulders when they take their tops off” I’m even more pissed.

I once heard a centre knurl was for when the OLY discipline had one hand snatch w BB as a thing that you did.

I think the facial hair is a good look for you - Stranger from the Internet! LoL That said, my current style of lifting I like the center knurling. One day I’ll get another, and I’ll buy without it so I have one with and one without. I’ll need some bumpers and a bigger garage at that point too.

That is the video I needed a month ago. But the Facebook group was very helpful and gave me the info to decide. My Wonderbar and bumper set are supposed to deliver tomorrow!

I bought one with no center knurling because it's going to be more versatile. I would like it for squats, but I'll be okay. I have been cut up by the center knurling before and I dont want that.

I’m going to catch the bar on the front of my traps…🤔🤔🤔 I wish people were more well rounded in knowledge when it comes to “fitness”.

I like a center knurl for squatting, but I don't find it essential. My current squat PR was set with a bar without a center knurl. Actually it was the original Bomba Bar!

@@ivannunez8738 I keep my upper back pulled back to build a shelf (rear delts) that the bar sits on. A cotton shirt also gives a bit more grip than most synthetic shirts. My new pr is 405.

Starts at 1:50. When you google this, the answer is - for better back grip during squats.

Center knurls are required for Oly lifting competitions. If you are strictly weightlifting it may be wise to train with a center knurl.

I personally hate center knurl. It's just uncomfortable. I've squatted many time low bar without center knurl and never had any issues
