We get an insane amount of questions regarding faceplate controls and what different adjustments actually do. In an attempt to mitigate some of those questions, we are going to do some videos on some of the popular machines that we get asked about and explain what each setting does. Every time we make an adjustment to the machine, we will make a weld so you can see what actually happens.

Excellent video! Extremely informative for a neophyte welder like myself. I don't yet own a TIG machine, as I'm trying to understand all the ins and outs of the process and equipment. This kind of presentation provides a remarkably useful comparison, in an immediately quantifiable manner. As always, thanks for sharing. Steve

Hi Bob, Loved your comment on the 60Hz for we old fellows, sort of sounded like an old vespa rather than the scream of modern motor cycle. Great video. Welding and machines certainly have changed dramatically in the last decade in their capabilities.

Love this video, very informative and in-depth on this machine. I hope you can do the same on the new POWERMTS 221 STi when it reaches your shop. By that time, I hope someone accidentally melts the shower curtains while their are trying to cut with oxy acetylene torch. I really like looking at all the cool stuff in the back of the shop, but maybe thats just me. Bob is the best instructor on the Internet. Thanks Bob for learning us.

Good video. A couple nitpicks: at 5:30 you talk about usually hearing a "flutter" of the high frequency, but you're using DC, not AC. The AC Frequency adjustment only functions if you're using AC mode, hence the name. At 6:25, you hit the pedal before you touched the work with the electrode. If you touch the work before hitting the pedal and quickly lift the electrode at the same time you initiate the electric flow, you won't spot weld the electrode to the work. It takes a few times to get the timing right.

You guys all always do a good job. Your work looks great and you explain things very well. Many of us home hobby teaching our selves have been greatly helped. I know I have. One day maybe we talk you into using a cheap machine like the titanium 125 from Harborfrieght. That would be really awesome to see our work compared to yours on equal equipment. It would probably teach us what our gear is actually capable of.

I LOVE these kinds of videos! Please do more of this style. I'd love to see one with the 210 or 255 ext, or hell any tig rig like this and get your thoughts and how you would setup the machine for each situation. For a noob like me the more details the better! Im new to welding (only about 3 months now) and the hardest thing for me is trying to get the best settings for the machine. Anyways keep up the good work! Much appreciated!!

Just snagged myself the PowerTIG 255 EXT... No more fighting my old, drowned welder! I think I would have been just as happy with this unit by the looks of things. I had to have that 60% duty cycle to rely make an impact in the cast aluminum and nodular iron as well as the repeatable results at the lowest of the low end. I've never had a welder that could do what I'm going to try, but I'm going to attempt to build guitar fret wire back up without pulling it out. Considering you'd have to put an iron on them to break the hide glue up enough to extract the frets, a low amp setup may well be the answer to never removing a fret again!🤞🤞

The EXT 255 is twice the machine and this has a 60% duty cycle it all depends on what amps the 60% is at. the 255 is 100% duty cycle at 200 amps. these two machines are just not even close

I got this same welder and I'm not sure why mine flairs up. I'll be welding and it'll get so bright it hurt the eyes. I thought it was my electronic helmet but I tried my non electronic helmet and it did the same. Bonus part is sometimes I'll use it and just checking the gas flow quick by hitting the foot pedal and not striking an arc it'll litterly dim every light in my shop and turn the radio off until I release the foot pedal. At first when I got it I thought something was bad with my wiring so I tried a different outlet and it did the same. I also used the 220v to 110v converter wire and plugged it into my 110v outlet and it still did the same so I plugged my big esab 251 into same outlets and turned it up max and it didn't even flicker the lights. Heck I got my Quincy air compressor and my air conditioner and plasma cutter that uses more amperage that this thing will use and I am very dissapointed with my Everlast 185DV

One video idea: try stick welding with the HF start turned on. I think it should prevent the electrode from sticking to the metal and it should start easily. If not with HF than at least with lift start.

Same here. I'm in Canada. I drive truck to Brampton, and all I have to do is swing by everlast in Burlington and pick it up, when I decide to pull the trigger... It's a toss up between this ac/DC welder and the cheaper (almost half price) power arc 161sth. Would be nice to have the Better Nova pedal, little more power, and the ability to lay dimes in aluminum.... Would be sick to say the least. If I go ac/DC, I will never have the chance to regret not upgrading to the better machine. You only live once.....

Some of those combinations of setting sound very weird. I think it was when you had 50Hzpulses and 250Hz frequency (multiples of each other). I was wondering what happens if you set say 50Hz frequency and 50pulses per second. Seems to me you might get nothing out (not really) but it must get to be a pretty strange almost useless output.

Everlast company is poorly managed and the two times I have delt with them has been a nightmare. I just got refunded personally by the owner and told to take my business elsewhere. So, if your willing to sit around wondering if, or where, or when are you going to receive what you purchased is going to arrive. Then you want Everlast,. If you want to be treated like crap, never get answers or the 5 year warranty honored.....go Everlast. I am personally done with this company and hope to influence others not to buy. I will just use my military discount in Lowe's or home Depot on Lincoln or Hobart.
