Roaming The Outback

Roaming The Outback

Күн бұрын

I escape to Welford National Park in outback Queensland for some rest and relaxation. Experience a rain storm, blowing winds, frogs and spiders, and the catching of crayfish in this Vlog. My day to day living camping in the bush.

Those crayfish you caught were Redclaw which aren't native to the Lake Eyre system. The best bait is anything fruit. Rockmelon is the best, potato part boiled, peaches etc. We take them out frozen and cut up so we can just take one out of the Waeco at a time. It's also prime Yellowbelly country. Those cherabin or shrimp are great bait, or yabbies if you can get them. The local billabongs are best for those. It's a great place to be stranded for a week or two. I'd make the trip every year if I could. After watching this video I'm gettin' toey to get back out there. Great job with the video. Loved it.

I really like the relaxed format of your videos Brett. The way you don't just charge through an area, form an opinion in five minutes and race on up the track and give another five minute opinion. I'm pleased the new roof/living area is working out well, it will obviously make things more comfortable for you. Keep up the great work. Thank you...

Hey Brett! You can make an isopropyl alcohol and water mixture (2 to 1 or maybe higher) and put it in a spray bottle that should kill your flies pretty easily. It works great on mosquitoes anyway, so I'm guessing it would work on the flies trapped in your tent. It evaporates in minutes and you won't leave any poisons lingering in the tent. Just be sure to label it properly . Cheers-

Hey Brett another great video mate, keep them coming please. I am intending to do a trip out west and intend visiting Welford NP. From Brisbane we will include Culgoa Flood Plain, Currwinya, Cameron Corner, Lake Bindegolly, Yowah, Welford and home via the Sandstone Belt. We are just waiting for the weather to cool down. I was given a tip for stopping ants getting into things recently, use talcum powder around wheels, table legs and such. Apparently ants won't cross it and it is non-toxic to the environment. I haven't tried it yet but I will on my next trip. Cheers.

Completely different scenery, perhaps this is what makes this video interesting. I am used on wooded mountains where each day we can expect huge snow now. The winter and the cold that will last at least till May. My Land rover won't be able to get any deeper into the area so I will have to leave it as many times before as a starting point for my adventures. From here it is hard to imagine that you have such the warm weather. Thanks for sharing and take care. Good luck.

Another nice video & the roof conversion is looking great! One question I've been meaning to ask was about the Discovery 1 wheels you run; I recall they didn't have a load rating high enough for a fully loaded 110. I know lots of people do run them with no issues, but I wondered what your thoughts were on that, or what decision making you went through regarding them? Looking forward to more videos from you! Cheers!

Great vid Brett. Love the no music. My two cents regarding your interior fitout. I wouldn't set it up with the idea of cooking and cleaning inside. I think you will regret it. I made that mistake with a pop top troopy and found i never used it. It was uncomfortable, messy and stunk out the car. I would also try and make as many things as possible that can be accessed from outside. I can see the importance for you to have a comfy area inside to do your editing or simply getting away from the elements at night but i wouldn't set it up with anything else in mind apart from that. I had some drawers set up that i could only access from inside and i regretted it because it became a chore to always be stepping in and out of the car. Also i think a 270 awning would be a game changer for you. I have owned several awnings and currently have one from rhino rack. I rate it highly. Cheers. Looking forward to the next vid.

Thanks for your input Mack.. just thinking though with all those strong winds I had blow through for a few days cooking with gas on the back door was a tad difficult. Cooking inside with the smell factor is a worry, but unless the weathers poor, I'd always cook outside. And yes I keep thinking how I can access all the essential gear from outside and in.. still more sitting inside to do to create the image of what works for me.

@@RoamingTheOutback I solved the gas cooking/wind problem with a 4 sided collapsible wind break, i forget the brand name but i could look for it. I would definately draw something up.
