Whether kratom represents another drug of abuse or a natural treatment for pain, opioid addiction and anxiety remains an issue of dispute. Kratom extracts from a tree native to southeast Asia have been employed to combat anxiety and fatigue, treat cough and diarrhea and reduce both body weight and blood sugar. Champions of kratom claim it also wards off insomnia and pain, relieves headaches and elevates mood without resulting in a hangover.
Officials at the DEA and FDA note no standard medical studies exist to confirm any of these claims. However multiple instances of toxicity and even a significant number of deaths are associated with kratom. The active ingredient in kratom, mitragynine, interacts with the same receptor as the opioids. Licensing authorities are leary of allowing unfettered access to kratom while our nation appears locked in the midst of an opioid epidemic.
Kratom may not be transported between states. In some states kratom is an illegal substance while in others no laws banning it exist. The U.S. Army forbids its use by soldiers. Recently kratom was associated with a widespread outbreak of E. coli diarrhea. Adulterants, impurities and lack of oversight prevent consumers from knowing exactly what they purchase. At present there are too many unknowns to recommend this product.

Kratom is a nice alternative to Alcohol and drugs. It won't expand your mind, or make your forget. It won't solve severe pain. What it does, it help elevate your mood without the room spinning. Kratom will ease minor pains that are related to fatigue and inflammation. Most places that sell it are laid back, social, and will help with stress. In real theory, this is a nice therapy to use occasionally. Know your potentiators, know your limits, know what works for you, and don't forget to take time off of any therapy. These are not meant to be done in high doses for the rest of your life.

Kratom is highly addictive. I took it everyday for several years. At my most addicted I was taking 25-35 grams a day. I admit it was very useful at first, after a while I only took it because I needed to take it to feel like I was normal. Sure it helps with anxiety and helps you relax, but only because if you don’t take it, it creates anxiety. At first I had a ton of energy and it was euphoric. It took me several weeks just to taper off. Now that I’ve been off it for several weeks, my anxiety is gone, my appetite is back up, overall I feel better than when I was taking it. My suggestion to anyone who wants to try it, stay away!

I dose about 3/4 - 1 gram per day feeling the full benefit . And so 6- 8 grams to me doesn't sound like keeping the doses low . Just spoon about a third of a teaspoon in a container of water and sip it a few times a day. This amount usually lasts me about 1-2 days . This is the only way to keep the withdrawal down to a minimum when the time comes that you may need to quit .

Jimbo Jones - hi, yes to get to the point where tolerance is not an issue is complicated. I believe if you insist on using large amounts constantly tolerance will be an immediate problem. I think that for daily use having 2 -3 different strains the body will become familiar with, and variate the intake throughout the day or every other day, with small doses below 3 grams maximum 3 times a day works best.

I think the only problem with long term use would be possible toxicity to the liver if you are using high doses daily or mixing it with alcohol. Regarding the argument that kratom is just another opioid in the crisis that we're dealing with, I think it should rather be regarded as a tool to get out of this crisis. Unlike most of the street or even prescription opioids that people are dealing with, kratom is very difficult to overdose on and it's also a lot less addictive. That makes it almost the perfect tool for dealing with a withdrawal from one of those other drugs. Also regarding the "it hasn't been properly studied" argument, there's a reason it hasn't been studied, because the pharmaceutical industry doesn't want it to produce positive results. They've done plenty of studies on its negative affects, poison control center call analysis, checking each brand to see how many heavy metals are in it, etc. But gosh darn it, they just haven't gotten around to testing its efficacy yet. That's the game they play. They never study it, then use that lack of study as an argument for why it's useless, all the while grasping at straws to point out or exaggerate every negative element of the plant.

The people who overdose on this are just as likely to do it with cough syrup or Tylenol. It's in their blood. For the rest of us this is pretty amazing stuff. I did do it everyday but just the smallest helps. Don't think of it as a cheap substitute for a real narcotic. It is it's own beast altogether and it's one of the best to get you out of boredom. That includes no kratom after on and off use for 1 year and daily use for about 4 months. I am considering using Kratom again as it seemed to work really well to minimize pain and to reduce depression as well as give me energy to install solar all day and train BJJ at night. 20 year ago, I was told I would probably not be able to walk in 10 years without surgery that would leave me in considerable pain. I was nearing a point of daily opiate use. I was a drug abuse counselor, living out a story I'd heard about a thousand times. I knew where the road lead. For the past 10 years I have used kratom and physical therapy to remain upright, mobile, and off of opiates. Surgical techniques have improved considerably, so it is much less threatening, should I need it. I'm relatively healthy for my age. With the help of meds for blood pressure, and a low dose statin, statin, my blood work comes back within normal limits every 6 months. Not bad for 72 yo. Today's climate within the medical community toward opiates would have made it impossible for me to remain pain free. I would have been on street drugs without kratom.

Very interesting unbiased talk. Thank you. I want to add that unfortunatly Kratom is the only substance that relieved my social anxiety completly. I am a different person since i started. Means i am the person i wanted to be for 28 years of my life. I have friends and for the first time a real social life. That means no depression anymore for over 4 years and ongoing. You can't imagine what a relieve this is to me. I managed to stay at a very low dosage for 5 years. Between 4 and 5 grams per day. But i have to admit that Kratom induces from time to time short periods of anxiety and its hard to stay hydrated. Especially when taken on an empty stomache it can trigger an hour long anxiety attack which can be stopped by eating something. Also it can be pretty hard to sleep when taken too late in the evening which can lead to insomnia periods. If there would be something else which could replace Kratom i would stop immediately. But at least for me there is no substance or lifestyle that can replace Kratom. I did therapy, I do fitness, i meditate i try to eat well but only Kratom let me flourish in social environments.

@@leonidtodorovski635 Man the first month was great. I talked to everybody and i was full of energy. But it doesn't stay that way forever. Its only my opinion, but i would not increase the dosage. It can really fuck you up. Not immediately, but over time. Kratom works very well for 2 to 3 years. After that time you loose the drive and euphoria almost completly if you don't counteract this. Many increase their dosage to get the euphoria back. 30, 40 grams and more. In my opionion thats horrific. Better to take breaks from time to time. In my case it turned against me for some time. It made me unsocial and it gave me anxiety (like if you have too low sugar in the blood feeling) and jointaches. I think the constant dehydration Kratom gives you (i have to pee all the time.) flushes Electrolytes, minerals and Vitamins out of your body. like magnesium, calium/potassium, vit B1 / B12. (lack of magnesium = legpain in my case.) In the winter a lack of Vit D is even more noticable when using Kratom. Also i have almost no sex drive. Which leads me to the conclusion that its also fucks up the hormones after long usage. Like the thyroid (hypothyroidism) and maybe the testosteron. All that leads me to the conclusion that its better to use small doses. Just think about it. The pure energy you feel for 4 to 6 hours must come with a cost when taken daily. ;) Just want to be honest. BUT it also changed my relation with my body. I care more for healthy food and testing my blood to give my body what it needs. And it gave me the motivation to work on my body for the first time since my late twenties. To answer your testosterone question: I really don't know if your testosterone will be fucked up. But its likely. I know unhealthy people who took kratom and it definitely lowered their testo. (After stopping it went up immediately) And i know other who care for food and supplements who had only a bit lower testosterone. I think the point is that you have to replace the flushed out minerals. Like zink and so on. When doing that i think you can possibly manage your testosteron level. Hope that helps a bit. But again i am no expert.

I posted that I think my anxiety has gotten worse after time of taking kratom and that I love kratom but I fear it's causing me to have a more or just as much anxiety as when I started but ifk if that's the case or if it's just my anxiety coming back ..its hard for me to tell, because I had anxiety before I started taking kratom. Then I seen, that you said it stopped working. So my question is, is that what it is? It stopped working and thats why my anxiety is back? @@malissamorgan1791 Hi Malissa sorry for the late reply I just saw this. I have successfully been off of kratom now since last commenting. I feel like kratom was my crutch for social anxiety, but once you get used to the amount you are taking in, it really feels like you are at base again in regards to the kratom buzz. Thing is, once you stop using it you realize how much you depended on it. For me, it was about 1-2 weeks of physical unease, drowsiness, and high anxiety levels. Best thing to do is replace that habit with something that gets your blood flowing like weights, walking, whatever. It doesn’t have to be much but it really helps. After those two weeks, I felt way better. I feel lighter and have more energy. As far as the anxiety goes, I have learned better ways of dealing with it ex. taking time to focus on breathing. It sounds simple but it has really helped. Anxiety seems for me like something that can’t fully be fixed, but it gets easier to deal with when you are very intentional about how you deal with it.

I wish more KZfaq videos were like this. Full explanation of the subject matter (the reason you’re watching the video to start with) and no filler BS. Direct to all of the points needed to be made, from someone that clearly has a background in medicine and how compounds work in the body. This is the information you need to make an informed decision. These are the risks, this is what’s in it, how/where it works in your body, what to watch for if you should decide to try it, and don’t over do it. Pretty simple. If this stuff were wrecking lives, killing people, making people sell their kids for the stuff, there’s zero chance that any government would allow it to remain legal in any capacity. Moderation is the key, the law of diminishing returns, as always, applies here as well. Be smart, be safe 😎🍻

I'm just wondering if you use it every day for your whole life, does it cause liver damage, other damage, or your life to shorten? I took it daily for about 8 years, and it did help me with anxiety but caused some minor issues- hair loss, constantly had to pee, plus it's extremely addictive. I stopped taking it a few weeks ago and withdrawals were horrible, physically. And mentally, I'm now super depressed. Not sure if the depression will go away or if i should just take the kratom again.

How are you feeling? I’ve been taking it about 8 years as well. Did you taper at all? Or completely cold turkey? I’m a cold turkey kind of person but I think I need to cut back to at least taking it 2x daily. Please If you want someone to talk to reach out to me and we will connect.

@@apocalypticbehaviors1560 Hi! Not sure why youtube erased my comment. How annoying. I had written saying thank u, I'm doing much better. I suggested a vitamin c protocol in detail but I think that might have been what triggered the comment to get erased. Helps with withdrawal, u can look into it. I wish you the best on your tapering! I could never stick to a taper so had to go cold turkey. I'm on my phone a lot so yes feel free to write whenever, I'd love to help others to quit 💕💕💕

@@jcbanbury Yes I'm off it completely. For now. I wouldn't say the side effects were horrible on kratom, but enough to cause some concern. I was having to take it multiple times a day or I'd get yawny & start going through the beginning stage of withdrawals. I'd wake up and HAVE to take it to feel normal. Plus the hair loss and had to pee 50 times a day. The withdrawals were horrible. But it did help with depression, so idk, that's why I'd like to know if it's harmful long term on the liver & kidneys, like I've heard.

I been taking Kratom for a little over a year .. I used it to get off of alcohol and for anxiety and depression .. I love kratom but I fear I am taking too much and that my anxiety and depression has gotten worse.. so I been studying as much as I can to find out all I can about kratom and yo see if anyone is or has experienced the same thing I have. I definitely have become reliant on it for daily function but I think it now is having the opposite effect and limiting me from functioning properly because my anxiety is so out of control that I can't complete daily tasks. It's hard for me to determine if it's the krarom causing worse anxiety or if it's just my anxiety acting up again since I have already had anxiety before I started using kratom. If anyone is having the same issues as I am, I would love to hear from you!

I have experienced similar problems after long term use. I suffer from depression (the debilitating kind) so I never associate my kratom use with this occurrence. Kratom saved my life from drug addiction and chronic pain associated with kidney disease and a daredevil mentality in my youth. Recovering junky and alcoholic. Since finding kratom I have completely rebuilt my life and my outlook on the future. Let's be honest pharmaceutical treatment rarely come with zero side effects. I combat the anxiety with meditation and exercise. I stay alert and focused on my perspective, how my mind will interpret the information it receives, reminding myself to be grateful, honest, considerate and respectful. Daily review my moods and interactions with others. Did I act rude, was I being selfish? Why did I get short and passive aggressive with my coworkers today? Where is my Mind, Body, Spirit out of balance. Its work its challenging but for 18 months now life changing. I attribute all of my personal growth and development in this time period to the benefits of Mitragyna Speciosa. Kratom Marijuana and self reflection saved my life.

I am utterly impressed by your knowledge on this issue. I dont know if you are using a teleprompter, but, it is amazing nonetheless. As a former sloppy alcoholic, I have been only using a nicotine vape pen and Kratom for over one calendar year---no booze. But, I HAVE had fits of anger---my addiction to Left Wing/RightWing news battles notwithstanding---I feel like there are times while I am feeling that "high" and lose my temper---a lot--- if people mess with me when I am on it. Numbness of the mouth, euphoria, disphoria and such... Constipation.... But, there are sometimes reasons to KEEP IT IN LOW DOSES....Less than five a day. I had started like 10 grams in my coffee.... And it was pretty awful feeling. Scary dizziness and often nausea.

In my personal experience, Kratom was the most addicting substance I've ever consumed. Near the end of my use of the drug, I was taking over 30 pills daily. I could barely eat, could barely wake up in the morning, and would have panic attacks regularly. I even started to hallucinate and hear things that weren't there at night. I legitimately almost ruined my life because of Kratom. But people insist on downplaying the addictive nature of it, because in their mind it's a free escape from their prior addiction. The thing is, your tolerance for Kratom will eventually catch up with you like it did for me. And when that time comes, be prepared because you won't have a viable exit strategy this time. OR Who knows? You could get lucky and not experience any of this. I just want to stress that long term use of this substance is much riskier than people would have you believe, even if it is safer than using opioids.

For someone with substance use disorders or crohn's, the benefits may outweigh the risk of dependence if it improves quality of life. But I agree, people shouldn't act like there is no risk of dependence and addiction.

@@sirjohnahayfalcon my girlfriend was a non functioning alcoholic. I'm not sure if you've seen how bad that can be (organ failure) but low doses of kratom stopped those cravings and the look in her eyes no longer looks like a zombie and stopped acting like one. Depending on how much you take, you get different effects. Large amounts are known to cause sedation like the nods, so I'm not surprised. There is a difference between addiction and dependence. If you're trying to treat a disease or disorder then dependence isn't so bad if the benefits outweigh the risks. Sounds like she may have passed over dependence and into addiction in which the risks started outweighing the benefits.
