Your a life saver, have no idea if it's the best one for my purpose, but it worked & got my German Shepherd home after she ran after a squirrel & snapped a 3/4 inch leather lead, luckily it snapped just by a metal ring, so I tied your Texas T & got her home & safe, Thank You Sir. 😊

I call it the 4-7-0 Knot, because it looks like the numbers when you tie it.

@MrsCullenJankowski -- It is certainly okay to hang the stirrup on the saddle horn. Practically speaking it is an unnecessary step in the saddling process but is added to this demonstration so that he fender would not obstruct the view of the knot. If, however, someone were to saddle 10-20 horses every day then as many extra steps as possible would be cut from the saddling process (including placing the stirrup on the saddle horn). Thanks for watching and happy riding (and tying)!

I wasn't going to watch because I thought, "I know how to do that!" But I watched anyway. Never thought of using it for wrangling the latigos while the saddle goes back to staorage. Nice tip!

we call it the 4 h knot...under to the HEART, across to the HIND, back up towards the HEAD and down through to the HOOVES.

Also, if your latigo keeper is getting stretched or worn from use then you should replace it with a new keeper which will give your excess latigo better friction or bite. Best Wishes.

In my neck of the woods, we call that a “cow hitch” knot.

Hi. Love your video - so easy to understand. Would it be possible for you to show a proper dismount from a western saddle? My instructor is telling me to remove both feet from the stirrups, lean forward and jump down. I’m wondering if I can keep my left foot in the stirrup and put my weight on it as I move my right leg over, then to the ground. Instructor says leaving left foot in stirrup is very dangerous. I disagree. Can you help?

I always wondered how cowboys did this, my dad cut my latigo (wasn't leather) down and now I'm regretting it (not that I had a damn choice he just did it) but I did recently buy a leather latigo so I'll try that since I like to mount from the ground and my horse is extremely difficult to girth (she's very narrow and getting the girth tight enough to mount from the ground is a struggle.

since the age of the Templars this is known as the "windsor" I use it to tie my necktie every morning.
@sundayridetexas4163 жыл бұрын
For those non native to Texas..it IS a windsor... for Texans..definitely the Texas T

Can any one tell me which is better? The Texas T or using the buckle? Cheers
@5MinuteHorseLessons11 жыл бұрын
That loop can be a problem especially when loping/cantering, but it's not a good idea to both buckle and tie. If you prefer to buckle you can put one more loop through your saddle's d-ring after you buckle instead of going directly to the keeper and then from the d-ring go to the latigo keeper. This will keep more friction on the excess latigo and keep the extra free end above your feet.

what kind of saddle is this? does anyone know, i'm looking to buy a new one:)
@IntimidatingUnicorn111 жыл бұрын
Your mare remind me of my old horse. :) He always rolled after I got the saddle off and put him in his pasture. Question: My latigo is giving me trouble when I ride. I buckle it and put the end through the latigo keeper but it starts to come out while riding and my foot gets caught in the loop created and that of course, is not a safe situation. Is it okay for me to both buckle and tie my latigo?
@tshorse10 жыл бұрын
Hey, just get a new chinch with the roller and solid bar in the lower ring and you dont have to do the Texaas T. If your out on the range and are using the TT pull the end of the latigo back up thru the top, kinda like a quick release. if the horse falls and you need to get the saddle off with out cutting it off (hopefully the horse is on his right side) just grab the latigo end and pull it out without ditzing around and trying to get the knowt free. always run the excess up to the latigo hanger as much as possible to keep excess from under the stirrup. also when putting away the saddle i use a quick release knot where the end of the latigo can be put thru the cinch ring with one pull it all come apart and ready for the next wrap. Sorry, makes no sense and need to be seen on a vid to know what i mean. personally, I dont use the knot. Happy Trails

Why this front latigo is so long??? It could be in twice shorter and will be enough and not rub the knee...

I didn’t realize I tie my cinch knot( never called it Texas T, cause I was raised in California) backwards. To the right first..guess it is because I am left handed.

Ok first, you should always put the stirrup up, second you can loop that at least one more time and third you need it to be way titer the that, do not use this video to learn anything
