When people ask us barrel racers what sport we do: “I barrel race” “Oh! So you roll down a hill in barrels to see who wins?” “No we run barrels on horses” “Wait so you train your horse to walk on barrels!?” “No no no we run our horses in a circle AROUND the barrels” “So you run by your horse and see who gets to the finish line first?” “No. We are on them” “That’s not a sport” Plot twist: the sport is explaining to people what we do for our sport

2:51 XD funny story about this clip: My friend we'll call her Jackie for now, has a american quarter horse, a palomino one to be exact, that she named "Two-step" he got that names cause she caught him dancing to Johnny Cash's "I walk the line" and this wasn't a one off time ether. Yea I’ve fell off and got stepped on but that was on my Frenchman’s guy horse I sold him now I have a unregistered quarter horse who got me to the BBR and has won me a lot of money rn I’m looking for a new horse we found a horse by streak of fling but it was 70,000

I appreciate barrel racers on bare back since they do need some balance for that and probably can ride a bit.. so much yanking on the horses face and heavy kicking and whipping wtf 😮 have a closer look on how to treat your horse right

@Ace Equestrian no this behavior is called weaving and is induced by stress. It’s an escape behavior so really it’s not a good thing.

1:14 why kick the horse? Its already going as fast as it can! It has also been proven by scientists that kicking the horse doesn't do anything other then piss them off.

Some horses might just need a little nudge but that horse was carrying so much weight I feel bad, and they were also pulling on the horses head a lot going around the barrel.

Actually if I didn’t kick me horse she would hit every barrel cause she doesn’t run past them I have to make her. Depends on the horse some horses need to be kicked cause they won’t run fast.

The exact time of 4:46 makes me cringe soo hard. Your horse is already moving, your pulling back on the shank and feel the need to nail ur horse in the ribs with spurs. eww nah.

@@idek9460 So many people use them unnecessarily too. Barrel horses especially are just raced around barrels so so much that the animal should know what its doing by now that the spurs have been proven pointless. Some of the sizes and points to these spurs are just painful to look at as well.

The person was riding…keeping her horse from hitting barrel…she whipped and kicked the horse to keep it moving. Fucking idiot.

As a barrel racer, ALLOT of so-called "Barrel racers" Can't even ride... I don't agree with spurs, kicking the horse (tapping with the heel is fine for me) I HATE whipping the horses with long reins, and yanking on the mouth is just cruel. Please learn how to ride before you start barrel racing because It's a lot more than just running around barrels, you have to guide with your legs, NOT your hands. The pulling isn't even necessary, it's just people who can't ride trying to gain balance from the reins. And by lead with your legs I don't mean kicking, You squeez witht eh opposite leg to guid lem to go around the barrel once your hip is at line with the barrel. EDUCATE YOURSELF!!

Some random ppl who dont ride western and think barrel racing is abusive: “thAts STarFishing THats abusing your hOrse LooK hOw stressed YOur hOrSe Is Me who knows alot about barrel racing : uhm.. first off the spurs do NOT hurt the horse at all and neither do wips hurt the horse neither of them hurt at all and it may look like the horse is stressed but they are really not now im not trying to cause trouble but its true spurs do not hurt your horse .spurs or wips will NOT HURT a 1,200+ pound horse Its not abusive and anyone that says that please do more research or possibly even do the sport if your interested .-A Fellow Western pleasure equestrian
