Cowgirl Tuff/Cimarron Sizzler at Winona, MN, July 15-17, 2011. This is one of my favorite examples of the bond a horse and rider can develop. As a videographer, it is my greatest reward to provide horse owners with videos like this that allow them to keep a wonderful memory fresh and clear in their minds forever because of the video I was able to create for them. I thank God for this gift and opportunity!!

This is a classic example of the old saying about Barrel Racing; "The horse's job is to get around the barrels, it's your job to let him - by not falling off". She did it brilliantly!~

Loved how they turned the second! Looks like she didn't even see that she flipped the reins over his head till she went to switch hands. Too bad he didn't finish the third. Would have been epic. However, it still ranks in the awesome category! :-)

Any high class barrel horse can do that and a lot of them would have probably even took the third barrel tighter and been around 14.6 seconds. Not bad by no means but depending on the horse they can make that even better with no reins.

That could have been a nightmare if the rider didnt remain, so calm. Thank god the reins werent long, or the horse would have stepped on them and went down. But accidents happen! no need for everybody to freak out over it. Great job on horse and rider! great seat positioning and theres a huge amount of trust between the horse and rider, which is such a beautiful thing to see. You really have a great horse!

@crystalarthur9669
@crystalarthur9669 8 жыл бұрын
Most people tend to whip their horses because, they slow down way before the eyes which then causes then to get a slower time and lose points. Same thing for spurs. Hope that clears it up.

There are numerous horses in the world that LOVE and are bred to gallop, but they still stop when asked by their rider. I'd say you were extremely lucky that day and should seek out a reputable trainer or clinician that can help you train your horse to WANT to stop when asked!! I'm so glad that you and your horse weren't hurt. :)

You know what, anyone can spout off with "You shoulda" crap. That girl handled it perfectly. She kept her seat, checked for the third barrel and rode it through. I had a bridle break once just before the second barrel that put me in the same situation and I also finished the pattern. Leg training and seat ques saved my butt. I think this girl did an amazing job! All those that haven't been in that situation should shut it (righteous "trainer" or not)! Great job!

Kopiskehorses, I completely agree with both of your comments. My previous posts were only in response to Dandyizbeasts comment about HER horse, which she stated in a later message to me, is young and very green. I professionally video barrel racers, reiners and cutters all the time, and as you mentioned; MOST barrel horses are extremely well trained. Also, there are horses that do "stop on a dime" at a full gallop, they are reiners...watching them do a sliding stop is amazing! :)

My mare does. It's about training. She stops instantly every time I game her. The second I sit back and say woah, her haunches go down and she stops dead; and this is a mare who ran a course in only 2 seconds under a girl's time who had made STATE records in the event.

yeah I agree. my horse was a do ALL horse. work or play to competing. I could hook a cart, drag out some logs, or run him in a speed show. And turn around and through a little kid on him to ride. it didn't matter I worked with him and we enjoyed each other! anyway he would stop. it might not have been as quickly as using the reins, but he would listen to me

If your barrel racing you have spend so much time on a horse that you know it just like walking. All finished barrel horses should be able to run a complete pattern but some horses wouldn't have taken barrel 3 as wide and would have still ran a 14.6 or 14.7 there.

im a little confused why they are telling her to "watch the gait" when shes on a horse thats going at full speed without reins and she cant stop, maybe someone of should went out there and helped her by trying to stop her horse
@ltltwister
@ltltwister 9 жыл бұрын
Jadeand Nick They were not telling HER (the rider) to watch the gate, they were telling the people in the warm up area that is located just beyond the entrance/exit alleyway (gate). There is no way in God's green earth anyone would have been safe trying to stop her horse. It wasn't like she was in any danger, she was just fine in the saddle and she knew DJ (her horse) would stop as soon as he was through the gate, which he did. The people were just yelling to warn the riders in the warm up area that a horse was coming back there full speed. :) Hope that clears up any confusion.

No offense, but for those who think this horse isn't trained well enough because it cont. to run obviously don't know much about barrel horses. Almost all the barrel horses I know are very well trained. They are great at flexion, collection & getting underneath themselves. What u all don't understand is that barrel horses at this level love their job & are trained specifically to run hard. (c)

way to hang in there but this is why you need to put your hands down... it is a pet peeve for me to observe barrel racers anymore because the always have their hands far above the horses neck most of the time..I barrel race once in a while and its not impossible to keep your hands down and forward. Ive seen this happen before and the reins got looped around her horses front leg.luckily it was a hackamore and the reins broke and both horse and rider walked away from the accident.

this is why i love horse riding!!! i hate it when you see kids smacking ponys with whips to go faster and i think its horrible. A WELL TRAINED HORSE KNOWS ITS JOb REGARDLESS OF TRAINING AIDS (REINS, SPURS OR ANYTHING ELSE) this just shows why its better to train a horse correctly otherwise she would be on an uncontrolable horse once the reins were gone. shes a true rider and i think shes fantastic and so is the horse xxxxx

Umm no offence or anything but don't you think if he had of grabbed the reins one of two things would have happened at that pace? 1) the horse stopped/turned to quickly and got hurt or 2) he would have got ripped off his feet and drug along the ground, possibly spooking the horse? Also I've never seen anyone jump in front of a galloping horse because a) they could spook the horse or b) the horse could plough straight over top of them. If he had done either of those things it could have ended bad
