Henry Dashwood (Colin Firth) informs the press that he is bowing out of the political race.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Loosely based on the 1958 comedy The Reluctant Debutante starring Sandra Dee, the family-friendly comedy What a Girl Wants features popular Nickelodeon teen star Amanda Bynes in her first feature-starring performance after her debut in Big Fat Liar. She plays teenager Daphne Reynolds, who lives in New York City with her musician mother, Libby (Kelly Preston). After she turns 17, Daphne is undecided about her future, so she takes off by herself to London in search of her father. She immediately meets cute musician Ian (Oliver James) before sneaking in to her father's estate to surprise him. He turns out to be Lord Henry Dashwood (Colin Firth), a fabulously wealthy aristocrat who doesn't even know that she exists. He had met her mother in Morocco and the two were married in a tribal ceremony. Upon their return to England, she left him and went back to the U.S. without ever revealing that she was pregnant. Such a powerful moment. He realized that his political aspirations were coming in the way of his relationship with his daughter. And he needed to step down to be the father she deserved but was missing for the last 17 years. Him punching Alastair was priceless. He wasn’t going to punch Alastair but as soon as he found out he got Libby out of the house because she was pregnant, his father instincts kicked in and he punched Alastair for causing his daughter to grow up with out a father.

The punch was the biggest moment in his life. That led to him getting his daughter and true love into the house. More. It allowed the wild side that Henry had to hold back to re-emerge. He like wearing those old rock and roll pants. And music. With Libby at the house, he can be himself. I love at the end where the new family sits outside and eat. The butler even joins them.

I though it was very harsh. He never killed anyone, broke anyone’s neck or slit anyone’s throat. There was no blood like in Watership Down. No one died!

Camilla E he may not have killed anyone. But he destroyed his family. By essentially kicking Libby out when he found out she was pregnant. Never giving him the opportunity to know his own daughter. He totally deserved it.

I think Lord Henry Dashwood made the right decision for once in his aristocratic life. It seems Daphne had a bigger impact on him than they thought. Not only did his daughter make him a better lord, she made him a better person. The time he spent with Daphne had changed him. And a lot for the better since she came into Henry’s life. If she hadn’t come to England, he’d have become something he’d have regretted.
