Lack of default Light/Dark automatic setup options for those of us with poor color vision. Setting up a light mode can be very difficult when color recognition is a difficult hurdle to begin with... For Steinberg to then force entire color palettes as a solution, instead of simply providing a "Light Mode" option is not only insensitive, but seems extraordinarily cynical.

I've used Cakewalk for 10 years and when I started using Cubase 12 I found a number of things to be completely weird: - Monitoring: When it's turned on, you can't hear clips that are already in the track. The solution is apparently to create yet another track that is only for monitoring - The sheer number of different types of track there are and how unnecessary that seems. FX Channels are only about 1% different from audio tracks, so why is it known as a separate thing - Multiple mouse cursor "tools" that can be easily switched, but Cakewalk managed to create a contextual "smart tool" which I'm quite used to, so manually selecting a tool is strange to me - Can't see markers in the full screen drum/key editor, because markers have to be in a "track", rather than just visible anywhere that the timeline is visible. - Can't select notes via their velocity bars in the drum editor. Selecting by velocity has to be done with the logical editor which is powerful, but cumbersome for quick tasks - Can't see velocity of all visible notes in the drum editor, only those of the selected pitch, or the selected notes, and this is not configurable. - Appearance of notes in the drum editor is not customisable enough. (Always diamonds, no velocity tails on notes) - Filtering of notes in the drum editor is not customisable enough. (Filter by name matching string, note number range.. etc) - Dithering is done by way of a plugin, rather than just being part of the export options, which seems strange - Track colours can't be set to automatically follow the colour of their output channel - Group tracks can't display a waveform preview of what's passing through them - Inability to switch a track from mono to stereo without completely recreating the track - Zooming in on audio content (to make the waveform appear larger) applies to the entire project, rather than per track (though I can see why this is by design)

You can make a contextual tool at least for select and range select. Then you can alter the functions by adding a modifier to the tools like „alt“, „shift“ or „ctrl“. There is a page in the keyboard shortcuts where you can specifiy that. So with the combined contextual select tools and „alt“ I have already the ability select, move or cut certain audio in my event. And for the zooming on waveforms there is a shortcut where the height of your selected event fills the whole project window. Or you can change the height of a selected track by just selecting this track. So the waveform gets already bigger when you select a track.

If you go into preferences and scroll down to VST theres a window next to Automonitoring that defaults to manual, but if you open the window and choose tape machine you can monitor on the same track.

I gave up trying to talk to Steinberg. Although I've been a user since 1999, when someone gave me their still-in-box copy of Cubase 3.7 VST (which included WaveLab 2.0 and an audio card). I am now on Cubase 12 Pro. I have two gripes: 1. When I want to zoom in and out an entire piece, I am at the mercy of a tiny dot at the bottom right of the screen. My complain was met with "Well, you can do it THIS way ...". I DON'T WANT to do it another way! Just bring back the larger triangles that are easier to see AND grab. Some things don't need to be "fixed". 2. When I select a certain range with the right locator, the left locator shifts slightly to the right. Not a deal killer, but it's been annoying since as far back as I can remember. No idea how to fix this, but then I don't work at Steinberg . . .

I feel reluctant to even post in the forums nowadays. Every time a bug or an issue is addressed in the forums, some familiar group of guys will swarm you with 200 click workarounds and completely disregard the issue and call you out for making the post in the first place. And good luck contacting Steinberg support. Had issues last year and they haven’t responded any further after their initial email response which I guess was from an automated BOT. About to just give up and switch to a more relevant DAW

if you use your mouse during an autosave (on a large project) the project can get in a weird selection lock (on a mac) where don't get out of, only by a reset

..also, when you insert a kick drum loop (or any loop) when you try to time stretch warp..it kills the attack on the first kick(like it adds kinda fade in)..tried in every possible options its the same...never happens in any other daw...regards

I've also investigated this problem, not to state the obvious but have you tried switching off the auto-fade settings? It seems to be ok now in 13 with autofade disabled. I choose to just disable autofade for the entire project and then enable it on individual tracks if I think it's needed (be careful with the awful UI design here, enabling an indiviual track can trick you into re-enabling autofade for the entire project... so re-check the project settings afterwards...) For doing typical edm stuff this seems to be ok and no transient problems or clicks. A related problem to watch out for... when rendering from a VST instrument to audio the sync is not perfect.. so e.g. you could render some drums from a drum VST to audio, then start to edit the audio and again pick up some transient/phasing problems, but this in my testing only appears 'sub-bar'.. i.e. every bar is identical, but e.g. beat 2,3,4 maybe not be perfectly in sync with each other... so you only notice problems when you start to chop bars in samller pieces... I guessing this is because the VST instrument I tested with only sync their tempo every bar and then there is some little drift between the beats..). I was very sceptical about the whole business of editing beats with Cubase because of these issues, but eventually after lots of testing I think as long as the original material is perfectly in sync and autofade is disabled then the results are sample accurate.

For Offline Processing you always need to click Apply, this isn’t a bug from neither end, and for the parameter reset key combination it’s up to the plugin manufacturer to decide, that’s no just a Cubase thing. 😉

If you have 'Auto Apply' enabled in the Direct Offline processing dialog, it should immediately apply any processing to the audio and persist it. That's how it works for other plugins and processes at least. In fact, you don't even get an 'Apply' button when you have 'Auto Apply' enabled. Or is that not what you meant? As for resetting to the default value, yes I mentioned in the video as well that that is not a Cubase issue. It is just that every plugin manufacturer decides on his own standard for that. Unfortunately ;).

@@LanewoodStudios Sure, but in your case the plugin uses a specific graphical interface, it's not the same as when you turn a knob or click a button, and that's most probably why Auto Apply isn't working, that isn't a Cubase issue... That's basically the reason why Steinberg have implemented ARA (Audio Random Access) extensions. If you want to be able to use such specific graphical interfaces as "offline processing", you may use Melodyne or whatever software, but as an ARA extension. And as for the tempo detection/warp bug, I tried to reproduce it with no success. As long as the Tempo Detection Panel is open, I cannot adjust the grid, as when I release the click, the grid will always to back to the previous position. It only works when the Panel is closed, but then it just works fine, no issue at all. FYI I am on Cubase 12.0.40 and SR is 96 kHz. EDIT : Indeed it fks up the whole Tempo Track, and not just the next bar from where you grab the grid from, that's why I didn't notice it at first, my bad here ! Will update on the support, thanks for your video though :)

@@louisrmusic yes ARA is a nice way to process audio as well, unfortunately it doesn't seem to be supported for Cubase and Autotune just yet. I just remember the time when Autotune graphical mode worked fine when applied offline to a piece of audio in Cubase :). Something broke in that when Cubase introduced direct offline processing (DOP) and Antares confirmed at the time that it was an issue that needed changes both on the Cubase side as well as on the Antares side (see the related forum posts). At the moment it works better again, just not for 'Auto Apply' which is unfortunate as it seems to be the default for DOP. Checking the manual it says: "The Auto Apply function for instant rendering is suited for most workflows. However, if you work with long events or if you use plug-ins that have a learning function, you might want to deactivate it." I guess Autotune graphical processing might fall into that second category then. Just wanted to mention that I don't know why you cannot reproduce the tempo detection issue, but I now see you can reproduce it after all. Good! At least it is consistent then ;).

LUNA here… hands down the best sounding DAW system. Not as many editing bells and whistles compared to others…. But sonically in another level by itself.

Also there seem to be problems when using ARA (SpectraLayers Pro) and then Audio Warp / Variaudio ... Processing is gone.

Spectral layers one can destroy my projects but I do use some long audio files (30min or more). So I am more careful now but it's still annoying.

When I alt-click on the horizontal fader of a send effect it should open the plugin attached to this send. Sometime it doesn't work.

I have had so many bugs in all cubase versions for years that I hate the program more than I love it. With each update I have the hope that at least a few bugs will disappear, but that happens very rarely. Most of the time more are added. I have spent countless hours researching on the internet and contacting support. Mostly without success. Instead of always adding new features, steinberg would be better off doing the old ones right. And instead of adding totally unnecessary features (there are discussions about that too), it would be better to implement simple things like the possibility to rename instert slots individually or to offer oversampling per plugin (other DAWs can do that too).

I have to say that most of the time, I can work comfortably without problems in Cubase. There are a few issues that do not seem to get resolved but they don’t keep me from enjoying Cubase. If there are issues in core feature that you need, then yeah …. ouch 🤕.

@@LanewoodStudios i´m aware of that function, its just a awaste of time if for example you already made all the processing and suddenly you want for example to throw a stereo widener...you´ll have to create a stereo channel and replicate all the processing + automation....should be just as simple as clicking a switch and the track would become stereo and the plugins if needed converted to their stereo version.

I'm a newbie to Cubase (use PT, Logic and Ableton for years) here are some thoughts after spending a couple of month with C. * Sometimes warping doesn't playback the warped version but instead the original. * Cubase seems like a hefty DAW but it's slow. You´re constantly trying to locate buttons.... and there is so SO many buttons! * Cubase needs to stop using like 5 different fonts-layout in the inspector, it's confusing for the eye. * Why do I always have to open up windows to just see the overall basics (volume, ins, outs) on instruments. Sometimes I can "pin the things I want" but a lot of times it just disappears. * The pre-saved shortcuts are annoying, specially on mac. To open up the mixer you have to first go in to keyboard preferences on your mac and change your F-keys to not function as intendent and then you have a clunky computer instead. * The zoom-functions??? shortcuts just so confusing and irritating. Guess you have to use your mouse and drag at the top. I'm sure theres a way of "fixing" the Daw so it operate like I want but for now I'm not completely sold.

Not directly Cubase but rather how Win 11 updates can "influence"... quick minor example solo/mute letters in track list icons missing; (yea, I can turn off but for some OS cant turn off). And, with multiples of different configurations, can radically show different bugs. Pretty sure Microsoft warrants a video or two for their performances.

- automation touch mode not working correctly (does not return to the initial value) - sometimes the search textbox in the browser or mediabay stops working, (can't search for anything and have to manually find it, program restart only fix) - weird automation bug when recording, visible only parts when the automated value changes - not a bug but a lack of a basic and important feature: NO UNDO for 3rd Party VST Instruments! LOL (good luck when accidentally twaeking a parameter in for example Serum and you want to change it back)

Sometimes while exporting a project of multiple tracks, some track sounds are mising after bouncing. To avoid this occurrence and make myself sure that all the sound are being processed at the time of bouncing, I had to bounce it in real-time. It's obviously a bug.

I guess it comes from a certain plugin but too ofter my Cubase 12 freezes when I close a project. Makes me absolutely mad.

Yes. in the past I usually found it is related to a certain plugin. But I also noticed that later versions of Cubase then sometimes deal better with that plugin.

@@manuelgasse There was not one particular one over the years as I remember (it's too long ago).But I usually managed to solve it by updating to the latest version of all my plugins, or waiting for another Cubase bugfix release. Nowadays I just try to keep my plugins and Cubase up to date with the latest version all the time.

Not a bug, but I really wish to have the Phase Coherent Group Editing implementation also for Variaudio. Very often I record voice with 2 or more mics and sometimes I have to correct some pitch mistakes... and everything becomes phasey. If I try to use the Phase Coherent Group Editing anyway, while using Variaudio I obtain a mess, all the corrctions will be randomly wrong once I save and call up my project.

The most annoying thing about Antares autotune pro is that every time you open the plugin window, playback is interrupted (Cubase/Nuendo/PC). It is the only plugin with this behaviour. They don't want to fix this, probably they think it is a cool feature. I now ended up using the old cracked 1.0 version ....

I really dislike Auto-Tune.... Melodyn may be more technical, but it's so much unobtrusive. But I never use Auto-Tune as an effect. It sounds so inhuman to me.

Those were pretty minor nuisances if you ask me ;) That the whole right zone mediabay browser simply does not work sometimes is worse for me. I have to use 3rd party apps to search my computer for audio files. Its been like this since years, also confirmed by members in the steiny-forums. Also the new "raiser" can simply hang your whole project, and does so quite often. Edit: Almost forgot the big one: Cubase can't shut itself down, and its not even once in a blue moon - pretty often!

Thanks for adding ‘your’ bugs. Didn’t know about those. I’m also definitely not experiencing the shutdown issue with the latest cubase 12. Might be a plugin?

I find these issues are true on windows but not on my Mac. Everything works really well on that.

cubase 12.0.52 performance issues audio dropouts during playback cubase will playback perfect then you play it back again and the dropouts starts and then it will playback perfect. inconsistent. buffer size set to 1024 no spikes cpu levels are great. 48khz MacBook m1 Cubase 12 rosetta 2 mode Apollo 6x I did recently add two new demo plugins VocAlign and solftube TLA 100a tube comp. But they seem to be fine before this started happening. This bugs me and is driving me crazy!!!!🤯Thanks

Sound very nasty. Sorry you’re having such instability. Can’t say im experiencing that at the moment with Cubase 12 but when it does happen it’s very frustrating i’m sure. Hopefully another update or re-install fixes the issue. I would also register your problem with Steinberg and look on the forums for similar issues.

-No Log history UNDO REDO .like wavelab -no real resizing mix console like others daw -no flip the track from mono to stereo with one button like studio one -the control room cues only 4 the other daws is unlimited, -some windows and menus in --old GUI need to redisign, -no pin the plugin window (always on the top) -No drag and drop like studio one if u have event in studio one u can drag it in the loop section -also global mixer template + settings : (-rack visibility -rack settings -channel type visibility -channel width and rack height settings) -option to turn off mouse scroll wheel changing mixer values -convert polyphonic audio to midi like melodyne +++ alot of bugs and crashes

Cubase is great except for the CPU usage with low buffer settings. I could run the same project in Studio One using 32 or 64 samples buffer and my CPU would be at around 45%. With Cubase I wouldn't be able to run the project at all with those same settings.

I’m having issues with my sessions not forming a audio wav. It says IMAGE CONSTRUCTION ERROR I can hear the mix and audio clearly but it won’t let me save.

The problem (bug) I don't understand.. Is Vari-Audios graphical note representation has been broken in version 12.0.20 so badly in fact that many people have to trash their preferences time and time again just so they can see the controls on the lower edit window. It remains broken in Cubase Pro 12.0.40 and we've not had a serious response from Steinberg to date.

I was working on a project and then opened up another one. So the first got deactivated. Then closed the second project and went back to activate the first. Now most of my Komplete Kontrol synths disappeared, and midi tracks with midi routing was going all over the place. Took me 30min to get it back in order. I gonna try to recreate this one. Can you try?

i use cubase but its very unstable sometimes. either freezes, crashes, cant quit the program or sometimes even sound stutter after plugin is deleted!

I use that all the time. Would be so annoying if that stop working. Maybe check if it’s still in your keyboard shortcuts in Cubase. Could also be that you’ve disabled function keys on your PC in general.

Render In Place is unreliable. For rendering single clips, it works most of the time but every time I try to render tracks in a batch (by selecting all the clips) it will randomly render them as silence.

@@LanewoodStudios I've seen it happen on individual tracks too. Not as common but I have seen it. There are suggestions on the forums that having the track armed can cause this. Either way it's a bug! Been there since at least 10.5.
