What do Mormons ACTUALLY do in their “secret” temple rituals? Ep. 41

Just like ancient Israelites, modern Latter-day Saint consider their temples to be sacred. Because temples are so sacred to us, we don’t talk about what we do inside them very often. Unfortunately, many people unfamiliar with Latter-day Saint beliefs interpret our reverence for the temple as evidence that we’ve got “something to hide.” In this episode Dave talks about some of the misconceptions surrounding the Endowment ceremony and explains what Mormons are actually doing inside their temples.

Modern Latter Day Saint culture can be too hush hushed and quiet about simply answering what happens inside temples. This is one of if not the best faithful explanation of the temple endowment on the whole internet. Church members need to set limits on how far you can go to explain further the endowment to those who don't know. You provide a great example on how to explain this without revealing too much which most members don't do this hope that changes.

Optulent Thank you for your comment. The temple and rituals of The Church aren’t known to members of not secrecy, only sacredness. Special beautiful sacred covenants are made with our Heavenly Father that we keep sacred and promise never to talk about. Members are very Covenant and obedient making people with their Heavenly Father. Heavenly Father has it this way for only reasons He knows of. It is so tremendous being in the peaceful house of the Lord out of this world of confusion and evil. The temples are a refuge from it all.

I have a question. Ever since I started seminary, my teacher and other members talked about the 'new name' in the temple. I have heard critics say that sometimes they give the same names over and over and it doesn't feel inspired. I don't know how much this should be talked about. But I wonder what your opinion is in this.

Gus Hdz Ruiz this does fall under the category of things too sacred to discuss out side the temple. When we die and are permitted into heaven we are renewed in the Bible Book of revelations 3:12 "Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name." The name given in the temple is a symbol of the actual name that will be given to us by God as we prepare to enter his presence. Most things in the temple are symbolic of things to come and are symbolic of our journey back to God.

This isn't even talked about in the temple. There are only a few things members covenant NOT to divulge from temple worship. The new name is one. You covenant not to tell your new name except at a specific point in the temple. However, the mechanism behind the repeated list of names is not mentioned. AT ALL. I was under the impression my name was unique, specially chosen for me. There is a schedule. For active members: why is the new name not to be divulged? New names are mentioned in the scriptures: Abram to Abraham, Sarai to Sarah, Jacob to Israel, Jedidiha to Solomon. It is clear that the scriptures are not shy about talking about new names. Why is there a new change of emphasis? www.fullerconsideration.com/TempleNameOracle/ www.ldsendowment.org/index.html

Great video! I do have one little gripe. You listed animal sacrifice as an example of something "sinister". In most religious traditions that practice animal sacrifice the meat is eaten by the worshipers as a sacred meal and the thing "offered" is the "life" of the animal; often symbolized by the blood or something similar. Plus sacrificial animals are often cared for and slaughtered with far more compassion then modern factory farmed animals are. If animal sacrifice is sinister, then the kind of meat most people eat is downright evil. Other than that great video!

At 4:42 you mention "other ordinances which we perform in the temple that I didn't talk about." You left out a few of them, such as "washings and annointings" and the 2nd anointing. You are right to say that there is no nudity in the modern temple. Full nudity during the washing ceremony (while being washed by someone of the same sex) was probably removed by about 1930 after the standardization of the ceremony in 1927, and certainly was removed by 1951.
@davidsnell2605

Yes, this episode was about the Endowment, not washings and anointings, so that was left out. But yes, historically, the person participating in the washing and anointing was naked (never around someone of the opposite gender, for what that's worth). I'm glad that doesn't happen anymore, but if I'm being honest (as uncomfortable as it may be) the nudity did reflect a more precise restoration of the ancient ordinance. The fourth-century bishop St. Cyril described it in similar terms: "As soon, then, as ye entered, ye put off your tunic; and this was an image of putting off the old man with his deeds. Having stripped yourselves, ye were naked . . . Then, when ye were stripped, ye were anointed with exorcised oil, from the very hairs of your head to your feet, and were made partakers of the good olive-tree, Jesus Christ..." Another source would be the extra-biblical 2 Enoch 22:8-10, "Go, and extract Enoch from [his] earthly clothing. And anoint him with my delightful oil, and put him into the clothes of my glory."

@@davidsnell2605 Thank you for your very thoughtful and informed reply. If you are going to mention baptisms and temple marriage as the other ceremonies performed in the temple, I think it would be more accurate to list all of the other ordinances or at least acknowledge in the video that there are other ceremonies that you're not talking about. I appreciate you taking the time to comment. I think that it also might make sense to explain to people that there are at least 5 versions of the temple ceremony as it has been updated since 1842 (1877, 1927, 1951, 1990, 2019). While there are many parallels between the current and 1842 ceremonies, there are also many differences. Things like making an oath to your husband or the oath of vengeance are gone, and we can all agree that that's a good thing.

@@scottvance74 That's fair. My mention of marriage ceremonies and baptisms for the dead were not meant to be an exhaustive list of every other ordinance done in the temple. I suppose I chose those because they're the most recognizable and familiar to people, but I totally see where you're coming from. I'm not trying to avoid talking about the washing and anointing. When an episode about it comes out, I'd be more than happy to discuss it further. Talking about the evolution of the Endowment ceremony is an excellent episode idea. Thank you.

@@allieooop3923 within the next month or so there is an episode coming out about this ordinance, so I won't address it fully here, but yes you're totally right, Cyril's reference here deals with a pre-baptismal anointment. You're probably familiar with our concept of the Great Apostasy that occurred over hundreds of years after Christ's death. It would seem that the washing and anointing ordinance, over time, was blended with the baptismal ordinance (I think there's strong scriptural support to suggest that originally it was a separate ordinance from baptism. I'll reference those scriptures in the upcoming episode). My guess is that at some point the early church viewed baptism itself as the 'washing,' and synthesized the two. For more sources corroborating the antiquity of the ordinance, you may want to check out this vid: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nq2CqtuG2siYiH0.html Though while many of the sources cited mention a changing of clothes, I don't think they specifically reference any nudity.

@@allieooop3923 "Your response to me indicated a belief that, over time, the ordinances of Baptisms and Washing & Anointing got blended together. The lecturer in the video, however, seems to be trying to make a different case." Of course the overall case he's trying to make is for the antiquity of the washing and anointing ordinance, but he does mention that "This was merged into baptism, but it was still a separate ordinance" (speaking of Baptism and Chrism as separate ordinances). On the Old Testament, it seems clear to me that the washing and anointing was separate from baptism. So the fact that we see it currently with baptism is what leads me to believe the two were merged together, especially considering that, as far as I'm aware, New Testament baptisms were not accompanied by an anointing of oil. They were accompanied by a confirmation (receiving the Holy Spirit), but no oil/anointing. Tertullian seems to provide evidence (from my perspective) that baptism was eventually considered to be the "washing" of the Old Testament, and subsequently merged with it (via Catholic.com): "After coming from the place of washing we are thoroughly anointed with a blessed unction, from the ancient discipline by which [those] in the priesthood . . . were accustomed to be anointed with a horn of oil, ever since Aaron was anointed by Moses. . . . So also with us, the unction runs on the body and profits us spiritually, in the same way that baptism itself is a corporal act by which we are plunged in water, while its effect is spiritual, in that we are freed from sins. After this, the hand is imposed for a blessing, invoking and inviting the Holy Spirit” (Baptism 7:1-2, 8:1 [A.D. 203]). “No soul whatever is able to obtain salvation unless it has believed while it was in the flesh. Indeed, the flesh is the hinge of salvation. . . . The flesh, then, is washed [baptism] so that the soul may be made clean. The flesh is anointed so that the soul may be dedicated to holiness. The flesh is signed so that the soul may be fortified. The flesh is shaded by the imposition of hands [confirmation] so that the soul may be illuminated by the Spirit” (The Resurrection of the Dead 8:2-3 [A.D. 210]). Of course this probably seems like a normal explanation of baptism and Chrism in the Catholic faith. But I believe that this is not how these ordinances occurred in the original church. I believe the washing and anointing used to be separate from baptism and confirmation. But I also understand that extra-biblical religious tradition is very authoritative in your faith. Surely you believe that your leaders hold the authority to officiate in these ordinances however they feel is best (my faith can relate to that). We simply disagree on who has the authority to make that call.

Thank you for sharing this video. I have already visited the Rome Temple in February, and had the chance as a non member of the church to go inside and see with my eyes, which is definitely a nice experience. and in september I am planning to go to Frankfurt Temple open door as well. My question: since you believe that building the temple is part of the resoration of old traditions, the idea of having baptism pond wasn't part of the Jewish/old temple, was it? In addition, since no one can get baptised inside the temple (except the ritual of baptism of the death). I wonder why the Baptism pond is part of the temple, not for instance the chapels? could you please assist providing some references so I can read in more details and see the whole picture, thank you :)

There are specific keys of the Priesthood that are used in the temple. The authority to seal on earth and in heaven is an example of a key of the priesthood given to Peter as you read it in the Bible. He had already been given the authority to baptize and teach and was an Apostle. But the Lord then entrusted him with the sealing keys. Those keys are restored to the earth and are used in specific places such as sealing a man and woman together in the temple. Other priesthood keys are used for proxy baptism for the dead. It is a specific authority needed and is under the direction of the temple president (he holds those keys). Only in the temple is that authority used.

First off, the old Temple of the Jews was preparatory for the mission of Jesus Christ and his atonement. The modern Temple is related to what someone mentioned as the keys of Peter to bind in Heaven and Earth, made possible by Christ visiting those who were in spirit prison. The Book of Revelation is not only about prophecy, but the Temple and it's purpose. Modern Temples are based off the New Covenant of Christ as related in that Scripture. Baptism is for entering the Kingdom, while the Temple is for, symbolically, entering the Heavens. Interesting enough the early Saints during the time of Christ did include baptism as one of the sacred ceremonies.

The idea is that every one must be baptized to be saved, and it is 'possible' to do that after life. Most Christians believe in baptism before death. Mormonism is the exception, probably because Smith's brother died before baptism and priests really pushed the idea that he was going to hell. And also important note though, be baptized everyone, they have baptized many people who are not only not religious, or whoever had the chance to choose to Mormonism Church. Do have baptized Jews from the Holocaust. They have baptized Hitler. And there are some religions who believe if you get baptized into another church, you are then forced out of the church that they really believe in. So yeah not a ton of non Mormons like that

Baptism is necessary to enter the kingdom of God as spoken by Christ and all of His apostles. So those who have died and never even had the chance to hear of Christ, will God just dismiss them and never allow them to repent, or choose Him? Isn't Christ more loving than that? Doesn't Christ want to save all of His children? If you belong to any of the "Christian" churches they will tell you that those who did not hear of Christ, or get baptized will all be damned. That makes God a partial God who is a respecter of persons. Nearly 150 Billion people have lived on the earth. How many of them have had the opportunity to be taught about Christ and baptism? 20 billion? 10 Billion? We know that out of the billions and billions of people that have lived on the earth, only a small fraction of them have heard of Christ. So is that something you believe Christ would do? Just cast them out? There are actually many scriptures that talk about this in the Bible... I don't even think any in the Book of Mormon do.

Hey Oliver! It is because there is still a veil placed between us and God and the Heavens at this very moment, for us living people at the moment at least, until we pass through the veil or die, and then we will be able to see spiritual things clear as day. We can have glimpses and visions here in this life by the Holy Ghost when God makes the veil thin for us to grow in our faith and witness of spiritual things and God and Jesus Christ themselves. Like, this all doesn't seem NORMAL, but it's a lot more ritualistic and outside of typical christian practice than this video makes it seem. At a lot of points there's like straight up chants and ritualistic handshakes. @@rickhuntling7338 You actually have no idea who I am lol. Do you know what is really cool about being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints? It has brought me closer to my Savior. It teaches incredibly pure doctrines of the Savior and His love and His mercy. You are wrong that it is some "satan worshiping cult." With the amount of good the church does in the world, you are proven wrong. The church truly follows the doctrine and commandments of Christ, anyone who says otherwise is wrong. The actions speak for themselves. The church sends food around the world to those who need it, pay rent and mortgages, pay for education and help people become more self reliant. Not only this, they even have an incredibly organized emergency response system and are often the first organization to enter areas after a natural disaster, with food and shelters and volunteers ready to help. So my question is this. Is any of that "satanic?" Is it satanic that we follow Christ's commandments to serve and love everyone of God's children? Is it satanic to teach in every portion of the church and in the temple that Christ is our Savior? Give me an honest answer, not any of the usual bs that comes out of the typical anti-lds sources. It's a cultural norm that originates from one talk given to a group of prospective missionaries about 50 years ago, in which he was discouraging watching sexual content as they prepared for a mission. The Bible mentions MANY times where Christ taught in the temple and yet those things were never written down. Either they were lost or too sacred to be written. Some things are just too sacred to be shared to those who would be disrespectful of something so beautiful and sacred. It is important to note that on the front of every temple is the inscription "Holiness to the Lord, the House of the Lord." Christ called it "my house" in the Bible and the fully restored temple includes ALL ordinances to help save ALL of God's children and bring them to Christ. The Temple is Christ's house, everything that occurs inside and the preparation that occurs beforehand, points to Him and directs us to live more like He would. It is His house, His ordinances, and we just hope to come closer to Him through our worship in church, at home and in the House of the Lord.

You read these anti-lds sites and just believe them, yet you won't ever listen to the truth. You are just another of those people who listen to the negative and that is what you have become, nothing but negative. It is sad really. I could go through your response and pick apart every little piece of it, namely because you don't have an idea of any sort of truth. For example, your scripture in Galatians 1:8. This scripture doesn't say anything about adding to the Bible, otherwise it would have said "Bible." The thing you don't understand is that the Bible didn't exist when that was written. In fact, many passages were written after that was, John even revealed those things that would happen in the last days many years after, and the Bible was only compiled around 390-400 AD. What he actually refers to is the gospel of Jesus Christ. Anyone who adds or takes away from it would be accursed. Now what is the gospel of Jesus Christ? It is belief in Christ, faith in him unto repentance, baptism by water and by the Spirit and continuing in faith. Those that do this, will be saved by the grace of Christ, which is made possible through His Atonement. That is the gospel to which it was referring. Those who take away from these things would be accursed... like those who say baptism is not necessary, who say that all you have to do is believe but not have faith, repent and keep the commandments; even those who say Christ won't save the dead as part of His Atonement. They reject the power of God and His gospel, they preach "another gospel" and do not know the commandments of God. Further, is your false thoughts regarding baptism for the dead. Salvation for the dead is one of the most essential parts of the gospel of Jesus Christ and His Atonement made it possible. Christ, when He died, went to paradise and taught the gospel to those who had died. This opened the gate for ALL of His children to receive His gospel and potentially accept Him. Baptism for the dead is the way in which Christ extends His grace to everyone who has ever lived. Again, "christians" take this out of the gospel and preach "another gospel" rejecting Christ as the Savior to all. I am glad Christ is Christ and not the "christians." At least He would attempt to save everyone. The "christians" would just condemn them to Hell. So, essentially every piece of your response is flawed, fake and false. That is a lot of lying you are listening to and a lot of false doctrine fed to you. You clearly do not understand the bible, nor can you see past your hatred, to view truth. Keep being negative and that is all you will be.

Do you not think that left him with some worry and concern for his physical welfare? God always demanded that His people sacrifice all they had, including when building temples. This is nothing new. If you were blindsided by this then that is because you do not understand the gospel. The gospel is not on the Earth to make you rich, it is to make you spiritually rich. That is what we are when we enter the temple worthily, spiritually rich. It is eternally more important than giving up that which we worked for. As of right now, only a few people have had to give up all they had to build the Kingdom of God. Most member pay their fighting and fast offering and that is all that is required at this time. @@monocuco818 Ye jesus also was there to physically provide food. I think that religions should be more like how Jesus was. When he said give up all you have and follow me, he was telling a rich man in a time of vast income inequality to give all of his excess to the poor. This was him addressing poverty, and how one morally cannot be upright in the eyes of god when they allow others to go hungry while they have more than they can use. It also wasn't "give all your money to me, Jesus, and my followers." It was specifically finding people in need, and giving in a way that doesn't benefit you. If you pay tithing, besides the money that goes into the first presidency's private investments, you're paying for temples you personally benefit from. Jesus didn't sell salvation. There was no monetary requirement to follow him. In fact, he abhorred the idea of the commodification of religious spaces (you know that one bible story where he straight up flips a table for the people selling stuff in the temple? And then is like chilling on the steps and says that you don't need a temple to find him?) I am not saying that's wrong, since how you want to spend your money is up to you. @@westminer3641 I kinda get where you are going with this, but you are confusing tithing and fast offerings. You also do not understand the church after Christ went to Heaven. Such as is found in Acts. As the church grew, they were still teaching and learning at the temple and if they church had continued, there would have been direct teachings of tithing. Christ did not destroy the law, tithing is still necessary... Not for God, but for us. It is an eternal law. Even as members of the church, it is still necessary to feed the poor and clothe the naked and tend to the sick and afflicted. That is up to every member. There are many members who are wealthy and yet, do not follow that teaching. They will be judged according to God. Tithing is required so that we will not be burned at His coming. Not paying tithing is the only way that we can steal from God. It is how God has established that we can participate in the building of His kingdom and show Him absolute faith in doing so. Throughout the entire Old Testament He required everything from His chosen people. Throughout the entire New Testament He did the same. But He knew that the church would fall and many plain and precious things would be taken out or left out, of the Bible. Paying tithing is about building the kingdom of God. Fast offerings is a personal commitment to follow a different commandment to feed the hungry and visit the sick and afflicted. The Church does that very well. Money is one thing. But the food that it disperses at each, individual ward level is astonishing. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints follows the commandments of God, not always perfectly, but it does take care of the children of God and is continually growing its capacity to do so. They pay for rent and mortgage payments int time of need, they feed those that cannot feed themselves, they send people to school who cannot pay for it, they teach people to become self reliant, they teach each person to follow the commandments of God, they teach each person to give to those who are in need, they teach us to prepare ourselves by storing food and water and emergency essentials. The list goes on and on. I have personally seen how the church disperses food, water, money, training, education etc etc... I am totally fine paying tithing, because that is what the Lord has asked of us. And through keeping that commandment I have seen, without question, the incredible blessings that come from paying it. So yes, I will keep paying tithing, as obedience to my God.

I gotta say though, I do not think it should be a requirement in order to enter the temple, and to perform saving ordinances. I have a difficult time believing that god would tie your choice to sacrifice financially for your salvation. It’s just a little too close to “paying the church to be saved” for my comfort.

Putting aside all the talk of rituals/ordinances, done in temples for a moment. Just being in the Temple (which is known as The House of the Lord), is the most spiritually uplifting thing ever. Those who go in with the right spirit will feel closer to God there, than any place else you have ever been. Sitting in the Celestial room when you are there and praying silently, you feel Heavenly Fathers love so strong. The worries of the world seem to lift from your heart. Truly it is like a glimpse of being back in Heavenly Fathers presence. Noticing also, everyone around you wearing white, especially the elderly with their white hair. They look like angels; and you feel like actual angels are all around you too. It is truly the most spiritual place you can experience on earth.

What is the "right spirit?" I never felt comfortable in the temple. It was not serene, peaceful. I fasted. I prayed. Nothing. Always uncomfortable. Some find calm in the uniformity. I found it uncomfortable. The celestial room was gaudy. It's not what I would classify as beautiful. I felt on edge. Constantly corrected for breaking Pharasciacal rules. Wear the clothing this way. It's not time to sit. You missed a word. No. Not peaceful. This is the one-size-fits-all attitude that I despise the most about the temple. Different people, different experiences, different cultures react differently to the temple ritual. Expecting every member to have a positive experience is unrealistic. Saying that one must have the "correct spirit" is just a fancy way of saying that a member must conform, must see things the same way. I reject that. As I said in another comment: the temple is divisive. In your words those that have "the right Spirit" and those that tried but just don't. How long should a person feel uncomfortable before they stop? I am glad you found a peaceful place. Everyone needs that place. Just don't be surprised when some people cannot see it that way. There is nothing wrong with not liking the temple.

Prayer circle at 1:48 is incredibly misleading. People aren't kneeling in a circle in normal clothes. They are standing in a circle and after giving each other secret/sacred handshakes, they raise their hands over their heads 3 times and repeat a chant of sorts (not included here out of respect). After this, they repeat the words of the leader of the prayer one sentence at a time after he says a mostly scripted prayer.

I actually agree with you here. Before publication I mentioned to the editor (who is great btw) that some people might find that misleading. I was bummed that it wasn't swapped out for a different image. It's important here to separate WHAT we're doing with HOW we do it. As per the video, WHAT we're doing is praying for friends and family that are in need. HOW we do it is the strange part to most people. Yes, we wear our ceremonial clothing and make signs and symbols associated with the promises we make throughout the ceremony (obey God's commandments, faithful to spouse, live the gospel, etc). And yes, one person prays and the rest repeat it. That said, I'm very confident that it's not a scripted prayer. There are certain elements that are the same (the purpose of the prayer is to seek help for friends and family that need it, so this is a blessing asked for in probably every prayer around the world.) but there is no script that I'm aware of.

@@davidsnell2605 I agree that the prayer isn't fully scripted, but having attended temple sessions in 3 different continents, I know as you do that the prayers are pretty similar. The prayers are meant to help and bless people, and this has been the case through the vast majority of the history of the church. There was a brief period in the 1880s when there was a book of people to curse (mostly US officials due to the feeling that they were persecuting the saints). I suspect (but have not confirmed) that in the early temple people were prayed for by name. Baptisms (of live people) for restoration of health was a common practice up to about 1900. I would love to know when they started the paper slips or temple rolls. Clearly you are well informed and you give a great presentation. I would be happy to review content prior to publishing if you want a second set of eyes to make sure that things are accurate and not misleading.

Question: how come the ceremony’s are secret? Shouldn’t they be announced like most people do with Baptism? At my Church(I’m a Christian not lds) whenever someone gets baptized we all clap at the end because they’re giving their life to Christ. Shouldn’t making a covenant with God be celebrated too? I’m trying to be respectful but just a question. Some one pls answer preferably David.

Great question! For our own baptisms we invite whoever we want , lads or not, and usually celebrate afterwards. In done in a font in our regular church buildings. The baptisms in the temple are done for the dead. So we go through the act of the baptism, but instead of saying our name, they say the name of someone who is deceased. They can then choose to accept that baptism or not in the next life. Does that answer your question?

The cliche saying is "its not secret, but sacred". Surely you can celebrate however you see fit, but for any covenant you make with God, it's only you and God who matter. Ultimately when you go in for the Endowment Ceremony, it's deeply personal between you and God. Think about Jesus and the things He did. In many cases, it was only Him and the few people involved. Only a few people saw him on the mount of transfiguration, only Jarius and His wife, and a few of His apostles were there when He raised Jarius' daughter from the dead. Jesus never went around celebrating the good things He did. In most cases He actually told people not to tell anyone of His miracles. Sacred and Holy things really should, to show proper respect, be kept between God and His people. This is just my opinion. But I hope it helps.

I've been struggling so much with some of those "temple ceremonies exposed" videos, since I saw them. I truly cringed, and was like... wait... WHAT THE CRAP?! It really bothered me, sooo much! This was my first initial reaction: "Oh heck no. I can't believe someone would-would... wait, what are they wearing? What are they doing? What the...? Nooo... NOOOOOO WHAT in the weirdo crap is this?! Aaaa! No wonder people think we're crazy or brainwashed! I don't know if I like this!" A plethora of emotions played through my mind, for weeks. WEEEEEEKS! So a few weeks go by, and it was a moment when I was thinking about the video, (and inwardly cringing ) when it happened. This thought comes to me: "What if it's an old school thing, that they did way back in the day?" My next thought was "Ok Well THAT would make more sense! ...Maybe I should look into it more. 🤔 So then, I hear/feel "but then, where is your faith?" I know that I have no way of knowing for sure, until I'm literally there, or maybe once I'm endowed, (but to be honest, I was kinda weirded out) I figured I'd set that specific issue aside for now, and I can just address it at a later time. I just have to get over it. So I decided to just...try to stay faithful, and maybe address it later. But the thought keeps creeping into my mind. "What if it's an old school traditional ceremony?" Each time, I'm like "that's fine! I can understand Heavenly Father wanting to keep sacred traditions sacred, and also keeping them alive. I have my own traditions...so, it would make sense... but I just have no way of knowing, without willfully seeking out. ..the stuff I saw. Which made me cringe. I haven't actively tried to keep my testimony healthy, in over a year. I haven't gone to church in so long it's ridiculous... I vape, I cuss, I have sexuality issues, depression, anxiety, ADHD, I'm a recovering alcoholic... I'm a hot mess, spiritually! So please enjoy this amazing irony, That as I'm perusing this channel, looking to see if there's anything on sexuality, or LGBT, or maybe even alcoholism or ANYTHING I could personally relate with - and I saw this video. Now, when I first saw it, I was like "Should I even watch this? Is this gonna piss me off or confuse me like that funky clip of the sealing? Is this OK to watch?" I actually felt a really strong urge to bypass it, and keep scrolling. I figured...ok, if it's long, it's too much to deal with. I saw it was roughly 5 minutes long, so I figured. "Ok...Heavenly Father please don't be offended by me watching this...but I just...really really...need to! I paused it at 2:41 after I find out that it's an old school traditional ceremony, and cried. ...I have NEVER seen, nor heard anything about sealing ceremonies in my life. (Ok, I actually saw my friends moms green thing one time. Her mom passed away some years ago, and it was one of the things she kept of hers. But, when she told me what it was part of her temple clothes, I thought she was just bullcrapping me, and just didn't want me to touch it -since it was her mom's- and since she was already weird about people touching her stuff in general) But that didn't "click" until just now. But, for all intents and purposes, I had no freaking way of knowing it was an ancient ceremony. None. I'm so very much digging this. What a unique, and awe inspiring experience in my spiritual journey!!! I always love hearing about other people's unique experiences...and I JUST HAD ONE! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

Sorry; when Men stick there warped minds and start organized religions…like the Catholic Church and other male dominated churches (like the mormon heirachy) they lose the true gospel of Christ…the Mormons are absolutely right that the true church of Christ was lost (the apostomy?) when the last True Apostle died….you have to study how the Catholic Church got started 300 years after Christ died by Constantine to understand just how ‘LOST’ we are…..we know NOTHING….and listening to others interpretations of Christ is useless….go to that quiet place alone and pray….and Christ will come into your heart….not saying going to church is bad…I found it good for my children’s sake….and although only one stayed in the Mormon church - at least none of them are atheists…..

One thing I think of is little children and the idea of sex. If you try to explain to a child what sex is, why it is important and even something beautiful, they won't understand because they're not ready for that information, they're not old enough or mature enough, however you want to look at it. Often times you don't share all the information right up front because it is overwhelming and so you allow time and growth of the individual. I hope that makes sense :)

There is also a human element to all things on the Earth. That will be so until Christ Himself comes and governs over the church during the millennium. If you think church leaders are not human, then maybe you should read more of the history of the church. While they make mistakes, it is Christ's mission to perfect the church and present it perfect and spotless to God. That means it is not perfect, but will be with time. You can see that throughout the history of the church, it, and its members, have grown grace to grace. What is most important is that we follow the Spirit and we try and act, and be as Christ would and be patient as the church grows. One thing is for sure, there is not another church on this Earth that teaches a more pure doctrine that lines up so well with the Bible and teaches us in much more detail and clarity who Christ is, and what His Atonement is and accomplishes.

@@monocuco818 a very well thought response that I appreciate. Humble and not judgemental. Thank you. I feel that the church has spent it's 150 plus years promoting and teaching how the church is true. Although this may be of importance, I personally feel that many members, especially those who have left the church, developed a greater testimony of the truthfulness of the church rather then what the mission of the church is: to bring people to Christ. I also feel that if it were not for the information era, that the church would have continued with their sanitized and inaccurate teachings of history and doctrine. That concerns me. I feel they have only opened up because more members were finding out how inaccurate the teachings once taught by leaders they admired and trusted. I have been promoting that having a testimony in the Savior should be greater then a testimony of the church. That sounds like an excommunicable statement. Probably would have been at one time. How will your testimony be affected if indeed the BoM turns out not to have been written on gold plates by ancient Lamanites and Nephites? That would rock the testimony of the vast majority. Even though the book teaches of Christ and contains invaluable lessons. If it didn't come about as promoted that would be devastating. Not for me because my testimony is in Christ not in men. The BOA is not well known amongst members. There's a lot of rationalization to keep it true. It really shouldn't matter other then perhaps if it teaches false concepts of who God is. Then maybe that wouldn't be good. There are so many of these issues that it's pretty difficult to ignore. I think the rebranding of the church is perhaps it's only salvation. As the old who remember the past die off, the young will be brought up with a different history and a much more palatable church based more on creating testimonies in Christ and less of the truthfulness of the original version of Mormonism....a once righteous word will become a hiss word. If it was true from the beginning, it can't be true today. The 180 °turn around suffocates the narrative of restoration of all truths being necessary. Thank you for not judging me and accepting my concerns as a brother in Christ. God bless.

Giving thanks to the Father, Who has qualified and made us fit to share the portion which is the inheritance of the saints (God’s holy people) in the Light - Colossians 1:12 AMP Receiving from God is not according to the works that we have done, but according to His grace. That grace is in Christ Jesus. He qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light. This means He has made us worthy. Being born again, you can boldly declare that you have the life and nature of God in you; you’re an heir of God’s infinite blessings. Jesus made it possible; the Word says “Not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:9). Religious Christianity would have you believe you’re “unworthy” in the presence of a holy and great God; and some would pray to God as unworthy supplicants. But note the tenses in our text. It says God has qualified and made us fit to share the inheritance of the saints in light. You couldn’t qualify by yourself for God’s blessings; your good deeds were not enough to qualify you to be an heir of God, and a joint heir with Christ. However, because of Jesus’ sacrifice, you’re now a partaker of the divine nature and a sharer of the inheritance of the saints in light.

Why baptism for the dead? If you believe that the sinful spirit of the deads can be saved by their living relatives then what is the point of Jesus Christ's sacrificing Himself to save us? He is the ONLY way to the Father while we are still living!! That is why we are encouraged in The Bible to be prepared always because if we die in sin, that's it for our spirits. Condemned spirits cannot cross from the place of condemnation to Paradise where the saved spirits are waiting for the Judgement Day. Our bodies are now the temple of God. We must keep our bodies holy for the Holy Spirit to dwell in when we accept Jesus Christ into our hearts. Mormonism is straight up wrong just from the beginning when they use the book of mormons. The Bible clearly mentioned that nothing is allowed to be ADDED or taken away from The Holy Bible! Also, our good works here on Earth won't take us to heaven. ONLY the blood of Jesus Christ by grace through our faith in Him that we are saved. Not of our good works so nobody boasts. His grace is a free gift we just need to accept it while we are still ALIVE. Once we are dead, no amount of baptism and prayer from our living relatives can save us. Jesus is the ONLY way to Heaven so prepare your souls while you're still breathing. The truth is ONLY in The Holy Bible not the book of mormons.

Can you explain how the third pillar is covered in the endowment. I understand the first two but I don't think Christ is portrayed as an element of the endowment. The nativity, the passion, the garden of Gethsemane, the crucifixion, the ascension and the Resurrection are nowhere to be found in the LDS temple.
@davidsnell2605
@davidsnell2605 5 жыл бұрын
The third pillar (off the top of my head) is intertwined with the Garden of Eden narrative. After Adam and Eve fell, it was explained to them that a Savior would be provided that would allow them to once again return to God's presence. What follows throughout the Endowment ceremony is our journey (each of us representing Adam and Eve) back to God's presence, which is only possible as a result of Christ and his atonement. But you're right in that a depiction of Christ actually suffering in the garden of Gethsemane is not a part of the presentation of the Endowment. There are references to the crucifixion, however. Overall, more than resurrection, the atonement is explored in terms of redemption. I hope that makes sense.

@@veritasrestituta812 The LDS temple has nothing to do with atonement. You learn about atonement on Sunday in public at church. The LDS temple is not on Sunday, not public, and not at church. The atonement brought an end to rituals and works for salvation, the temple is an enormous ritual and filled with works. As I said above, the LDS temple is all about exaltation. Christ brings salvation but only Elohim can exalt you and that's the temple. Salvation was automatic for Adam and Eve. They did nothing to receive it. They fell into sin and Elohim said "I will provide a savior to redeem you from this sin". That's it. The remainder of the endowment has nothing to do with Who or How or When this salvation will occur. It's already done. Adam and Eve were already saved. The works you promise to do in the temple will exalt you, not save you.

#4 at 1:40 is incredibly misleading. You don't promise to dedicate everything to God. You promise that "...you do consecrate yourselves, your time, talents, and everything with which the Lord has blessed you, or with which he may bless you, to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for the building up of the Kingdom of God on the earth and for the establishment of Zion. This is insensitive to the max those who find the ritual of infant baptism sacred. The canonized BOM actively disrespects the sacred ritual of infant baptism. It's two-faced to ask non-members to respect the temple, yet your own scriptures do not afford the same respect. I doubt you would have charity if some one said those that partake of the Endowment are doomed to hell. Moroni 8:10-21 "14 Behold I say unto you, that he that supposeth that little children need baptism is in the gall of bitterness and in the bonds of iniquity; for he hath neither faith, hope, nor charity; wherefore, should he be cut off while in the thought, he must go down to hell. 15 For awful is the wickedness to suppose that God saveth one child because of baptism, and the other must perish because he hath no baptism. 16 Wo be unto them that shall pervert the ways of the Lord after this manner, for they shall perish except they repent. @@Melsgoof The Book of Mormon also affirms that God gives degrees of truth and guidance to people throughout the earth -- not just to Mormons or to Christians generally, but to all people. The rejection of infant baptism stems from the fact that infants are born into the world INNOCENT -- free of inherited guilt (Original Sin). In the past, many Christians did believe that if infants were not baptized, then they were condemned to eternal hell, or at least forever prevented from entering Heaven. This is certainly a damnable concept, and I don't blame the Book of Mormon for condemning it.
