Jeff, you have changed my life! I'm allergic to yellowjackets and so I've always been scared of any flying thing with a stinger. Well, a couple of unseasonably warm days just up the road from you in Little Rock, I noticed a lot of honeybees flying around looking for food (we already had out first frost). Instead of getting scared, I mixed up some sugar water for them and laid it out for them. Within 30 minutes there were dozens and it was the most fascinating thing I've done in a while. Three days of feeding before it got cold again and I think I'm hooked!

I heard something interesting not to long ago, said scientists believe bee stings can help with reducing cancer cells. I don't know how true it is since I haven't looked much into it since I ran across that, but given all the other things bees are capable of I wouldn't doubt it in the slightest.

I want to say, I know people are afraid of temperamental bees, and I understand why. But if I was a beekeeper, I'd like to have a colony or two with a little bit of feistiness, because as you said, they will defend their hive.
@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff 5 күн бұрын
I am delighted to hear you understand my point. To often the quality of "gentleness" is prized in a bee hive, I for my part appreciate when bees are defensive as this genetic trait will be to their advantage.

2 stings would put me in the ER. I am so allergic to bee venom. Once stung on the foot the pain and itching was horrible. Then I was stung on the hand and I nearly passed out. My arm swelled to twice its size. When I went tot he ER they asked if I was snake bit. I said no just a bee. They gave me epinephrine and benadryl in a shot. That works faster. Thankfully we were not far from the hospital when it happened. My lungs were still working. But the doc said if I get stung again I would have an anaphylactic reaction. I hope none of you has any bad reactions to stings. But if I were stung I wouldn't be talking about it. God bless you for finding the queen. She looked so small considering all the eggs she laid. Have a blessed weekend.

@@JeffHorchoff You guys are supermen to me. I would not even be able to do that with a bee suit. But you guys act like it is just a little mosquito bite. I am reactive to those too. This year being so many days over 100 there were no mosquitoes where we live. Up in the foothills perhaps. Not here. You reuse and keep alive bees the one animal that makes food we eat and they can eat it too. We pray for all of you.

That sure is one fine haul that you 3 worked out there Mr. Ed!! Even with all the damage of Katrina, there is still a benefit to be found after all this time has passed. And in the process, is it possible another bee keeper has been born? Just the design and construction of this hive shows a dimension of natural beauty. How long would it take a bee to enter and to reach the inner areas of that hive? Just the weight of this hive alone was very impressive. Now I am looking forward to the wax and honey portion of this hive that continues to give up its goodness. Another very enjoyable video Mr. Ed!! -Bob...

I think Charlie better make sure Jeff eats his Wheaties before heading out for a removal, after seeing him struggle with lifting that hive! lol, Maybe wrangle old Wreak it Ralph back into the group for a little extra lifting power! Just kidding, you do ok for someone up in years as you guys are!!!! Lol, just joking, love you guys and all you do to keep us entertained and educated in the ways of the bee keeping life! God bless! P.S. World famous Mike Barry and the ole Dirt Rooster would have been jealous!

Holy smokes, those bees were hot!!! Your removals are usually of calmer bees, but THOSE bees were pissed! But like you said, the more aggressive hives keep the hive beetles out so that's good. Will be more challenging to look after for Tyrone, but if he mostly leaves them alone like you leave your bees alone most of the time, it shouldn't be too bad for him. Maybe he should get one of those flow hives so he can just extract a little out the back side of the hive without disturbing them or something. But I'm sure he'll figure it out. Great team work guys! Also, now you have added the multi-tool to your arsenal for hives that have old, rock hard comb. 👍

Once again, loved your video. Amazing to me how you find so many swarms & removals. Not that way here in SE Missouri. Wanted to ask if you and Dirt Rooster and Mike Barry if are still attending the 2024 Sieverville Bee Conference. I was willing to travel from Missouri, mostly to meet you 3-guys. Since the foolishness over Kamon Reynolds began, I need to know if you still plan to attend. Please respond and let me know.
