Many women are not educated correctly or under educated about this which cause them to give up on breastfeeding or cause them to have this mental block that its so hard but thank God he continues to lead me to strive to understand because its much simpler than people make it seem these days. Good luck with breastfeeding . Have you tried the side lying position as demonstrated in this video ? kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g8CBmMV1tZaxj6c.html This video from Nancy is really good with her explanations and the mother talking about her experiences , but the Sikana video shows the actual baby latching on and the mother has larger breasts than in Nancy's video ( probably twice the size of her baby's head ! ) . It also shows how the baby's nose keeps clear of his mother's skin so he can breathe as her breast is large and deep and is rounded instead of coming to more of a point at the end . No disrespect to Nancy intended by sending you a video , but I dont know how you can do it as a direct message now .

@@MsLovelyArie I've been side-lying her on my lap and using my forearm to support her head, then I use my other hand to lift my breast towards her, in order for her to be able to latch on, that or I let her lay flat on her back with her head turned towards my breast (also on my lap) and again, I move my breast, as needed, for her to be able to latch on. Laying her on my lap seems to be the best option for me when I'm sitting up, it's not the greatest for my posture but it works
@natashawhatman5512 жыл бұрын
@@scooby1992 what a fantastic video! thank you much for sharing that. I've sort of been doing that, but I've been doing it with her side lying on my lap and struggle with her constantly unlatching because she's not 100% comfortable. The tip about not holding/touching the back of her head will definitely help with the unlatching issue that we've been having. Again, thank you so much❤

@@natashawhatman551No problem . Keep up the good work breastfeeding your little one . It is a fantastic video , but I was a bit worried about the baby's nose up against the breast early on in the video , but they find a way to breathe OK . The mother looks quite comfortable lying on her side and all those pillows help with her posture . Even though the baby looks like a new born it's amazing that he knows what to do and latches really well . I don't think there are that many videos showing the problems that mothers with large breasts might have with breastfeeding . I am not sure if the baby is small or his Mommy's boob is big ! There are a lot of great videos that show latch on , breastfeeding positions , how to breastfeed discreetly in public and also skin to skin . Happy to share any I come across with you .

This is a brand new position I've learnt! I didn't know we can breastfeed with this half laid-back position. I really wish that this education was provided in the hospital setting. Most moms are there for 2-4 days and do see a "lactation consultant" but aren't given the right education. With both of my children, I was given artificial tools (nipple shield, suction bulb to bring nipple out) to help with latching, all this time we were latching wrong. I feel like I wouldn't of quit breastfeeding with my first after a severely cracked nipple causing mastitis. With my second, it's still a struggle and I have a battle with myself everyday of whether to go to exclusively pumping or not. Baby and I fight 50% of time and it's so tiring. I cannot wait until she wakes for the next feed to try these positions. I have large breasts and my nipple is lower and have been sitting up way to high. I wouldn't have made it this far (6 weeks) without the amazing lactation consultant at my pediatricians office and a RX for Dr. Jack Newman's ointment . She did teach me proper latching and this position but I was so tired, engorged, in pain, and frustrated that the why didn't sink in. Thank you for having these videos available for free (not like other videos out there)!! You are saving one desperate midnight googling mom at a time!

Thank you so much! I'm breastfeeding exclusively and had trouble getting her to deep latch. After watching this I have no pain and no lipstick nipple! My daughter is only 5 days, having painful feeding and nipples I was about to give up! Again thank you!
Hi Nancy, I’ve had quite a journey with BF.. my baby had a tongue tie that we got clipped at 2.5 weeks of age. Also, starting out I had flat nipples. For all of these reasons I used a nipple shield.. I worked hard with a LC to position and latch and do physical therapy to decrease tension and help promote good oral motor skills. Baby was still slipping off my breast so I couldn’t get off the shield. Once my milk came in, I found out I have an oversupply and forceful let down on my right breast... so my baby was choking and clamping down on my nipple to slow the flow... I’ve started to pump or express some milk out before latching.. at 7 weeks old my baby refused the shield and finally latches but has a shallow latch, probably from muscle memory of the shield. I’ve been trying to latch correctly since we have skin to skin contact and she’s not falling off then breast anymore and sticking her tongue out further and is just a bigger baby. I have very large breasts as well (36G). I get a blanched crease across my nipple and it very uncomfortable to breastfeed. She is 8weeks now... is it too late to retrain the shallow latch? We’ve been through so much emotionally and physically. I can’t imagine giving up now, but is it worth it to continue suffering if the latch can’t improve at this point?

Baby is sleeping now after a painful feed and I have vasospasms as well from the trauma to my nipples.. I will try this technique and return with updates!
@NancyMohrbacher4 жыл бұрын
Hi Olga, Your baby is *so* lucky you've worked so hard on nursing. No, I don't think it's too late. What you don't say, though, is whether you've tried these positions while allowing baby to do the latching. Typically, in these situations, baby goes on deeper with the help of gravity and relaxed jaw muscles. To see this approach (which is also recommended for fast milk flow) in more detail, view our free longer video and give it a try. I'd love to hear if it helps. You can see it here: www.naturalbreastfeeding.com/

I'm planning on breastfeeding my next baby but found finding positions difficult. I could only ever do the football hold with my other children because the top of my breast would spill over their nose so I worried about suffocation. I'll be having a repeat c section so getting up from a reclining position like that is near impossible. I have large breasts and my nipples are placed lower as well. Any tips?
@NancyMohrbacher6 жыл бұрын
During the first week or two after birth, these positions can work really well. Keep in mind that you'll be resting and recovering, so getting up may not be as much of an issue as it will be later, when you'll be doing more. I suggest watching our free, full-length video before you baby comes. You can see it here: www.naturalbreastfeeding.com/
@102938mom6 жыл бұрын
Nancy Mohrbacher Thank you. I'll definitely watch the video. I have 3 other children that I homeschool so my chores always resume when I get home from the hospital (minus heavy lifting) so I don't get much rest after birth. Getting up from any reclining position so soon after my c sections has always been an issue. I don't have help from family or friends and my husband is gone a lot for work so I mostly have no choice but to jump back into full mom mode the day I get home from the hospital. I'm hoping with the next baby that I'll get a week or two to relax. Haha

When my third child was born, my oldest was very helpful. Perhaps your oldest child can give you some help in getting up, as needed. I hope it goes really well this time and that you find these positions more relaxing. :)

if the latch is deep can you still get blisters? I have blisters on the ends of my nipples. I stopped breastfeeding because of it but I've started again cause I didn't want to give up. the blisters are back again :(
@NancyMohrbacher7 жыл бұрын
When the latch is truly deep, there should be no friction or pressure on your nipple, which is what causes the blisters. However, it is possible for a baby to have a tongue tie, which restricts baby's tongue movements and can cause the kind of problems you describe. Before considering that possibility, I suggest trying the approach described on the free video here: www.naturalbreastfeeding.com/ It's possible, that if you allow your baby to control the latch, she may get on deeper. Best of luck!

My first suggestion is to watch our free longer video and try the different adjustments demonstrated. You can find it here: www.naturalbreastfeeding.com/
@NancyMohrbacher9 ай бұрын
If you're still struggling after trying the adjustments in our longer video, contact an IBCLC in your area and arrange for a one-on-one visit, so she can evaluate what you're doing and provide personal feedback. In some cases when the nipple is truly too large for a newborn's small mouth, you may need to express your milk 8x/day until your baby's mouth grows larger. Fortunately, that doesn't take long--maybe a few weeks at most. Then your baby can nurse effectively. Best of luck!
