New Jack City is a 1991 American action crime film based upon an original story and screenplay by Thomas Lee Wright and Barry Michael Cooper, and directed by Mario Van Peebles. This is the latter's directorial debut, and Van Peebles also co-stars in the film. The film stars Wesley Snipes, Ice-T, Allen Payne, Chris Rock, Mario Van Peebles, and Judd Nelson. I watched this a bunch as a kid. Looking back the acting is mad cheesy but it was pretty hardcore for it's time. Wesley Snipes was a force to be reckoned with back in the day. Star power for sure.

I have to admit I was curious how accurate that was because I’ve never detoxed from crack or done it. However I’m a recovering alcoholic with 108 days and my detox was always ROUGH! The shakiness, sweating…I’m always curious how people feel through that since it’s so brutal. Give me the flu any day over that

What is not mentioned is the amount of music legends in this movie. Apart from Keith Sweat (who was adored in that era), you had the New Jack Swing kings Guy perform, Christopher Williams, Public Enemy's Flavour Flav, Ice T, Troop & Levert, and Ashford of Ashford & Simpson. The soundtrack for this movie was on a must have list of anyone into New Jack Swing at the time. It's given us classics such as Christopher Williams's I'm Dreaming, Colour me Badd's - I wanna sex you up, and a great remake of classic For the love of money. And for any hardcore New Jack Swing fans like me, you had to have this album cos of Guy's - New Jack City track, which was never released as a single sadly.

I was 11 when I saw this back in 91. The things I was allowed to watch🤣 It never gets old. The soundtrack was perfect. The cast was perfect. And I remember thinking Wesley Snipes, Allen Payne, and Christopher Williams were FOINE!!! Oh, and Russell Wong-Mr. Vanishing Son. Ms. Vanessa Williams was gorgeous and Still Is!
