Welcome back to another video. In this weeks video I'm going to be going through all of the kit that I might potentially pack for a day hike in 2024.
I hope you enjoy the video and feel free to leave a like, subscribe and comment, it'll really help support the growth of my channel :)

Hi guys, Hope you enjoyed the video! One thing I forgot to mention was hiking poles! I very rarely use them, however, they are an excellent bit of kit which many hikers use. They’re a 4 wheel drive upgrade for hiking. I’ve got some great use out of them when I’ve been recovering from injuries (which has been a lot 😂). Another important bit of kit, a whistle! Great for emergencies, both of my rucksacks have them built into the chest strap so I forgot to mention.

Great vlog Alex. I'd be inclined to also have a group shelter for 2 upwards (size of group depending) and great for gnarly lunch stops, whistle, notebook/pen/pencil. Group shelters are a real lifesaver 👍

I've always got a pocket knife and length of strong cord too, which has very occasionally come in handy. I assume there's one in the first-aid kit, but a tick tool as well (thankfully not come in handy, so far 🤞)

Good tips. To add I usually carry some spare boot laces in case they break and gaiters. I also have a survival shelter that but it’s not essential.

I always carry a bivvy bag just for an extreme emergency where I wouldn't be able to make it back. Never needed it yet but for the small bit of weight and size I think it's worth it as I'd rather spend a night cold and dry as opposed to cold and wet.

Have you thought about a cheap Vs expensive comparison? I've got gear from relatively cheap but decent columbia gear up to fjallraven and arcteryx etc. All serve their purpose.

Hi Alex, this is a great video. I’m in the market for some new hiking boots/shoes as my 10 year old Merrell boots have finally given in. Living in North Notts, I often hike in the areas you normally film in both summer and winter conditions. Do you have a shoe/boot recommendation or a video discussing this, please? Thanks.

That’s a very important piece of kit that I forgot to mention as both my bags have whistles built in to them. I’ll add it to the list in the comments. Thanks!

I have just packed my day hike bag for snowdonia. I normally take trekking poles and an emergency shelter. I use etip thin gloves and often take sealskin socks especially when the ground is wet. Never taken a foil blanket before. I’ve taken a trowel before though.
