I'm growing up with no father, the only father I looked up to was my grandfather who passed away but last time I saw him was when I was 6.. the way I think about being a man is what my grandfather would do and to not be like my actual father.

😢 😭 Just watching this. I’m full Asian, and I grew up without a Father Figure. Parents divorced at a young age. Was Raised by a single mom, and sometimes I wished I had a Good Man, Role Model in life to teach me the things that I’ve missed when I was younger, the bond and relationship between a Dad/Son that I never had. My mom was half mom and half dad and had to teach me the things that she knew, but the feelings weren’t the same as having a strong father figure in your life. I’m thankful for what I have and for what I know. Much love the sons and daughters without a father in their lives. Deuteronomy 31:6 ✝️ Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.

Same here. I used to give my mom a card every Father's Day...but finally after so many prayers and years of crying at the age of 43 I got to spend a whole day with my dad. I had only seen him twice in my life and each time was for a few hours. This time I really got to tell him how I felt and he apologized to me. It was only a day, but it was ours, and I got to get him coffee and make him dinner, so to God be all the glory for that moment in time. It can't change the past, but it healed my broken heart.

I dont see him as a father.nurturing is real. Men pliz let's do it for our dear children don't let them be victims as me. It really hurts. Hoping to heal oneday

Mr. Harvey, thank you for what you are doing in people's lives. I grew up without my father, he was off and on before he finally left when I was 12. I still recall how devastated I was and how I yearned to have a relationship with him, sadly i didn't get to be close to him until he passed. I've got a family now and I understand that having both parents raising kids is essential in having balanced adults

I sometimes have to work with kids with no father figure, younger than the boy in the video (from 5 to 17). They are angry or have repressed sadness all the time, they often are bullies or loners. The teenager ones don't know how to act or treat a girl, they are scared of them or just plain rude to them. I'm no psychologist or anything similar, but helping them and being a male referent for them if they want me to makes me feel so proud and grateful (and with a lot of responsability, of course!). And sometimes, when I think about them and reflect about their situation it truly makes me real sad. Sometimes, in some delicate scenario with any of these boys, I'll admit I have shed some tears at my almost 30 years of age. What I want to say with this is that if any man wants to be a referent for a boy, beware, because it is gratifying but also a heavy weight on your shoulders. Also, I want to say that I always will be thankful to my father for being there for me everytime I needed him.

Young boys need to just do the things with their sons that their father never did for them. Stop playing the victim all their life and take control. This was a beautiful segment. Like Steve said society has pressured men to stay strong, never cry, provide, work til you're tired. Its very important to have a sit down and talk about these things.

it's crazy watching this cause i didn't have a father but i knew how to be a man without one. i had to really teach myself. its not as hard as people make it seem just have to work and take care of your responsibilities you don't need a man for that. being raised by a single mother was hard but i got into the military with her.so i think she did a pretty good job.

This has been my biggest worry about my son, I'll never be able to provide him with a good father. All I can hope is to find good men to put in front of him somehow. That takes time, though, and there's not a lot of that left while he's still a kid.

it's not hard to find male mentors. Enroll him in a martial arts class, so many men including the sensei will be role models. Get him in church or school groups with men in it, let him spend time WITHOUT A WOMAN AROUND so he can be free to ask questions without worrying about what they think. If you don't get him out there quick, he's going to ask google about being a man and will find those groups on the internet that hate women and make men feel resentful that they are not appreciated by society. This is not a prediction, but 9 out of the last 10 school shooters came from single parent homes. Almost all of them had interacted with fringe forums that are meant for grown men who want to speak their mind freely and because they are young boys they don't understand the full context of the shorthand the men are using to express themselves. They start to think women actually hate men, only want them for money and status and will use them up. There are men every day with no male role model who take their own lives because their mother cannot do what a father figure or role model can - no matter how hard she tries. If you want the best for your boy, don't just worry. Take action. Even if you need to reach out yourself and have a heart to heart with a few men. BUT make sure they're men and not just boys that grew bigger. Don't identify them by whether or not you would date them. identify them by their behavior and actions not what they have or the words they say. And please please please encourage your son to listen to a large variety of music. Rap and pop nowadays is either "azz and tiddies" or "girl i want you back i'll give you the sun, the moon the stars" and neither of those lines are reality.. but without role models they will interpret these as scripture - especially if you don't do church. Most of all, make sure the guy is cool enough. Not cool by women's standards (stoic, wears the bling, doesn't mess with hoes even though he could). Cool by men's standards (knows how to build a machine or hunt or fix things, knows how to TALK to women without stuttering and blushing, has a path of his own that he handles with grace).

It would be great to hear Mr Harvey's advice on a girl child raised only by staff, as the parents were separated father was too busy working and the mother became an alcoholic due to the fathers adultery, therefore the child was completely ignored except on summer vacations, which would end with a huge terrifying fight, leaving the child feeling completely lost and feeling unloved. Now that the child is older, the parents say you should be grateful for all the 'things' you have!? I would love to hear Mr Harvey as he is very wise and has learnt a lot from his own mistakes and is a very no nonsense but sensitive person.
