If I had the ability to draw, I would imagine nightmare Fluttershy as a witch who is similar to the witch from Hansel and Gretal. Instead of eating anyone, she lures animals into her cottage and uses her abilities to trap them so they can never leave her. In my story about her, I think she would be the only pony involved. She's cut everyone else off to pursue her goal and has become a recluse. She's also moved much deeper into a forest, so no one can find her

Pinkamena has to genuinely snap from a psychotic break to go down the straight-hair despair-filled route, which isn't the same as being twisted by nightmare forces. Discord made them opposites and Nightmare Forces would definitely make Pinkie take the laughter thing too far because that's what they do. They made Luna take her love of the night way too far, etc. Cupcakes definitely didn't do it right, but Pinkamena just snapping is a very scary concept, no magic required, and it wouldn't feel the same if magically induced so I'm glad you didn't go down that route for this.

I definitely feel you on the Cupcakes stuff as it always to me never made sense because it doesn’t really fit Pinkie as someone who would go crazy like that for nothing(at least think of an in character reason why she would go insane and murder her friends). Regardless of that, I absolutely love your nightmare Pinkie Pie! The clown look fits her perfectly. I think a hypothetical name she could have is Pinkie Meanie? personally, i think that for pinkie in fandom since the focus shifted way too much towards her "evil" side as being something more like in Cupcakes it lost a lot of potential to explore her character more and this take on her surprisingly feels very refreshing and i really like the direction !

With the nightmare-ified ponies, if I were to do them, I think I'd go the route of having them completely turn on their elements. I feel like this works very well with your Apple Hijack, with her element being honesty and turning to a life of crime. This could also work pretty well with Rainbow and her maybe turning away from others and only depending on herself, or wanting others loyalty, but never giving them her own. I feel Pinkie could also work, given her nightmare. Like, not being able to make others laugh and only being laughed at, I feel she could turn around to hating laughter (like in the discord 2 parter) Anyways, love your work and your ideas give me TONS of inspiration!!

Wrt Pinkie being a popular pick to make into a villain, I think early in the fandom, Party of One *really* ignited people's imaginations in that regard. There's the appeal of making such a lighthearted playful character into a villain, sure, but there's also the fact that we *saw* this other side of her all the way back in this first season. And ofc Cupcakes got really big as well, so people had a lot of fun combining the two concepts. But when it comes to Cupcakes it's useful to recognize that it was kind of... never *meant* to be good. The person who wrote it did not like My Little Pony! They were trying to make fun of MLP:FiM fans. It's the MLP equivalent of that "Let's get together and kill Barney" song. But at the time, the fandom was very caught up in presenting their enjoyment of the show as this like... half-ironic thing. Like a lot of people heard about it through 4chan and Something Awful, and those were really popular hangouts for the fandom in those early days. There was very much an effort to cultivate this image of the fandom as "We're these edgy cynical adult men who love this colorful cartoon pony show! Isn't that funny?" And as a result, taking the show and making it edgy was actually a huge hit with this crowd, and they gladly embraced it. (In particular, the video adapting it was a lot more of a... sincere effort to approach the concept, and garnered a lot more widespread attention, especially with younger fans who would never have heard of the fanfic.) All this to say, while I think the history of Cupcakes/Pinkamena portrayals is *interesting,* I'm glad you made the choice to break away from it in your design. It doesn't really suit the nature of this project (plus it would be pretty boring if you just did something that has been done a thousand times before!)
