The premise of the boggart turning into the dementor wouldn't work without the current timeline. Harry even admits he thought of Voldemort at first, but then he "remembered that night on the train." Without that night on the train, Harry has no reason to fear the dementor experience; he doesn't fear fear. He fears a risen Voldemort.

So two things, first is that while scabbers would no longer be sick, there still might have been the encounter with crookshanks since they were also going into the creature shop because Hermione was thinking if getting herself an owl as a birthday present. Second, if scabbers was not hiding out of fear of Sirius, Lupin might have noticed him right away on the train.

Lupin might not have even been hired as a professor that year. I had always thought Dumbledore hired him cause Sirius broke out.

@marshallnisbet1214 that is true, we do not know for a fact that he would have been hired had Sirius not escaped or even if he was still hired that he would have been on the train if Sirius hadn't escaped. These were just thoughts that jumped out to me while watching the video.

Peter would most likely hide the moment he saw Lupin. We know Lupin was asleep on the train until the dementors appeared, so even if Peter was fully visible for the first few minutes of them being in the same room, Lupin wouldn't have been awake to notice him.

@@irishuisman1450 I think Lupin wasn't really sleeping, I believe he was on the train as a safeguard in case Sirius chose to attack the train. Without Sirius' escape, there would be no real reason for Lupin to be on the train.

Remus thought Peter was killed by Sirius all the way up until he saw him on the map, so he probably wouldn't have paid any attention to Ron's rat. It seems like Sirius only recognized Peter because he knew Peter blew up the street and cut off his own finger, so the rat missing a finger could easily have been the still-living Peter (though it is still weird when you think about it that even Sirius was able to recognize a random rat, but we can give him the benefit of the doubt since he had nothing to do in prison but sit around and think about the one who framed him).

Honestly I don't know if they would allow him to go with because they're going to be gone more than a month and he won't exactly be able to bring a bunch of that potion that he needs to stay himself when he transforms. And you know the last thing they need is to deal with a werewolf attack monthly

I had always thought of the weasleys wing the money a clean up of Ginny getting kidnapped. Like “sorry that happened don’t sue Hogwarts”. It comes from th ministry because that’s the government.

That's a good theory, or at least a "sorry that happened" sort of thing. Harry and Dumbledore know or at least suspect Malfoy's involvement in the book getting to Ginny, and the money could've been money given by Malfoy to Fudge to give to them to "distract" them from asking too many questions about how Ginny got the book.

Hmm.. nothing in the story suggests that way though. It says they won the money in Daily Prophet Draw, I mean the Weasleys were the most honest people you could think of in thr series in the series, and they said they won the money and not just somehow got it from the ministry. I know fans come up these theories for fun's sake, and of course it's their right to do so, but nothing in the source material hints towards the grease money theory.

I think no matter what, Ron's getting a new wand. even if Harry pulls the "early birthday/ Christmas" present card he did in goblet of fire to convince the Weasleys to let him pay for it. Ron is his best friend, and Harry has already said he'd split all his gold with the Weasleys, but they won't let him.

It's more like what if Harry Potter didn't return from the metaphorical King Cross Station and just moved on. I which case Voldemort wins because he will rightfully posses the Elder Wand having defeated Harry Potter and Neville won't be able to break his spells to kill Nagini. The whole order of the Phoenix would be annihilated and a whole cohort of young wizards and witches would also die or be forced to submit. Following which, Magic users would likely start preying upon muggles indiscriminately and total global war would ensue, likely ending the human species given the use of atomic weapons.

@ZedemMonk That's all well and nice but OP means the continuation of the already existing videos about Voldy choosing Neville as his equal since birth. The Longbottoms going into hiding. The Potters getting tortured. Harry living with Sirius. Harry and Neville becoming best friends. The chamber being opened in year one and Harry dying at the end. Not a new video prompt.

Hermione had been planning to get herself an owl that summer. She would’ve gone to the magical menagerie regardless and it’s possible she still might’ve picked up Crookshanks if for some other reason, the store owner mentioned how long he had been there. I Ron and Harry might’ve even gone into the store with Hermione just to help her pick out an owl because their friends. In which case, Crookshanks would’ve still jumped onto Ron’s head, since Scabers would’ve likely have been riding on his shoulder or something, considering he wasn’t be sick. but if Crookshanks wasn’t around hunting Scabers, then Ron would be taking him around school more regularly, and Lupin might have seen him and recognized him. Or, Scabers would find out that Lupin is a new teacher and start looking ill with that news. It would happen later in the year though.

Whether or not scabbers and lupin just over one another organically might even be beside the point even if they don't lupin we'll see Peter all the map when he takes the bat from Harry after Snape calls him when he catches Harry with it.

But the only reason that they went into the Magical Menagerie was because they wanted to see if they could get both the medicine for Scabbers and an Owl for Hermione if they didn't need to do that then they probably would have just gone into Eeylops Owl Emporium.

Harry never saw Peter on the map in canon, I think, so why should he see him now? If Peter isn’t afraid of Sirius, could Lupin maybe see him in his rat form and catch on? I guess that would depend in whether or not Peter hears Hermione tell the boys Lupin‘s name. I feel like it’s kind of a reach to say Harry’s biggest fear is fear itself so his boggart would always be a dementor. Also, and I feel like maybe I am getting canon and movie scenes mixed here, but Lupin doesn’t let Harry see his boggart in the class? Harry tells him later that he was thinking of a dementor instead of Voldemort, but if he hasn’t seen one before then he definitely wouldn’t have thought of one.

Even if lupin mrs. Scabbers or doesn't recognize him or just thinks it's an interesting coincidence he will definitely see Peter's name on the map when he takes the map from Snape after Snape catches Harry coming back from the fight with Malfoy at the shrieking shack. And I agree Harry's fear is only a dementor because he had met one. The fact that your greatest fear can't change of this series is enough to prove that it would not be one this time

Lupin sees Petegrew on the map in the book but it isnt until the night buckbeak is almost killed. He says he saw the trio go to Hagrid but when they left Pettigrew was with them

Yeah I don’t think it makes sense for Harry to see Peter on the map at least not at anytime he’d note it as odd bc if Sirius isn’t on the loose then Harry wouldn’t be looking at the map in the middle of the night to see Peter in their dorm he’d probably mainly be using the map to get to hogsmede and he won’t even know Peters name if he did see it. I also don’t think Peter would let Lupin anywhere near him I honestly think of Sirius wasn’t on the lose and the safest place from him being hogwarts he would have gotten out of doge as soon as he saw lupin was there. And yeah the whole Harry’s fear being fear itself I think is something he only has bc he’s experienced a dementor I thought it was a reach too I definitely don’t think it could become a dementor if he didn’t know what they are

Lupin only found out the truth because Sirius escaping kind of gave him the reason to think about it and realize the switch Since Sirius never escaped lupin never put together the fact that he's innocent earlier. Meaning that Peter would have no reason to assume that lupin suspected him(because he didn't). So he wouldn't actually have a reason to avoid lupin. At the very least he's not in fear for his life that we may still stay hidden so avoid being recognized I don't think he'd bolt. At least not until lupin take the map from Harry after the encounter with Snape and sees him on it then rather than later.

Perhaps you didn't think about it, but I'd argue that Lupin wouldn't have been the DADA professor if Sirius had never escaped. I'd argue that it's too much of a coincidence for Lupin to have simply been next on Dumbledore's list of potential DADA teachers the very same year that Sirius escapes Azkaban. I've always assumed that Dumbledore asked Lupin to teach (and that Lupin accepted the position, knowing the danger he could potentially be putting the students in every full moon) because Sirius was on the loose and "after Harry". It was Dumbledore's belief that if anyone could know how to spot Sirius (and know all his tricks for getting into, around and out of Hogwarts) and keep Harry safe, it would be the only other remaining Marauder (as far as he knew). Therefore, no Sirius escape--no Lupin as DADA teacher.

I don’t know, it wasn’t a very popular position… Lockhart was only hired the year before because he was the only one applying. Dumbledore knows Lupin is good at DADA because he was a previous member of the OF, he doesn’t have family, so living 9 months per year at Hogwarts wouldn’t be a problem, and he knows Lupin doesn’t get many job offers, so he could be desperate enough to accept a job no one wants (since the last two guys were killed and and permanently brain damaged). As for the danger to the students, there was the wolfsbane potion Snape could make him, so I’m confident it wasn’t an issue to Dumbledore. But I understand your point and I am sure it was an additional factor to determine Dumbledore’s choice

Crookshanks could still be in the picture! Hermione wanted to get a pet, she was thinking of the owl, but wehn she saw Crookshank she got him. Maybe she wouldn't have noticed him, if he hadn't thrown himself on Scabbers, but she might have still chosen him after looking around in the shop

Yes but they only went to the menagerie not the owl specific store bc scabbers is sick and the menagerie had both things also hermione only sees crookshanks because he jumps down to attack scabbers whilst he’s being looked at by the owner

13:10 that may not happen. The only reason he escaped in the original series is because Lupin was turning into werewolf form, and he took a wand while everyonewas focused on Lupin. Peter would not have that distraction in this new version, so he can still be caught

100% Lupin is going to notice Pettigrew at some point, especially with Ron constantly trying to find him because of Crookshanks. If anything though, maybe this means Sirius leaves Azkaban a bit later and DOESN'T die in the 5th book..

Well at least the ministry would have a much harder time explaining a mass breakout of former death eaters when they can't blame it on Sirius, especially if Sirius is left behind (supposedly Voldemort's biggest follower).

But there would be no crookshanks to chance him bc is scabbers isn’t sick they don’t go to the menagerie they go to the owl emporium and hermione just gets a normal owl and I highly doubt Peter is gonna let lupin see him at all honestly without him needing to stay at hogwarts (it being having the highest security from on the run Sirius) Peter would probably just leave when he sees Lupin is a teacher probably just flees the country finds a new family or lives in the forrest as king of rats

@@blackgirlmagicc Hermione still wanted to go there and get an animal, so she could easily still get Crookshanks. Straight from the books, Harry points out the magical creature shop and says Hermione can get her owl there. Once there, she finds the cat instead. Easy. Remember, Scabbers wasn't "sick", he was constantly freaking out. Ron just thought he was sick. Obviously if Sirius doesn't escape, Scabbers doesn't require "medicine", but Crookshanks still comes into play. And with that, Scabbers is still being chased and at some point, Lupin might hear about that considering he takes a liking to Harry for obvious reasons.

I had a thought: What if Snape had never overheard the prophecy. Say if he had his interview before Trelawny had hers or something. Cuz imagine if Voldemort doesn’t find out about it. He doesn’t go after Harry and he doesn’t mark Harry as his equal. Is he just never defeated? I feel like there would be more to it that that though. 🤔

looking at how time travel works in movie 3, consistently, meaning all events always happen the way they happened, I'd say it's impossible for Voldemort to never find out. Even if snape doesn't hear it, it gets to voldy somehow, it just has to. Otherwise the prophecy wouldn't exist in that form as it would have to say something different, which is the other edge case. So you either have a different prophecy, OR it always makes its way to old voldy.

The prophecy brings up something I feel hasn't been talked about.... there were questions about if Nevil could have been "the chosen one", but I feel like the fact that Harry holds the prophecy in his hand kinda answers that question. If they can only be retrieved by the person who it is about, and Harry grabs it without issue, it has to be him that it's about.

@@captainspaulding5963 by the point we the reader know about the prophecy it is 100% referring to Harry, but when it was made it could also have referred to Neville. the line about "Dark Lord will mark him as an equal" means it was Voldemorts choice which of them it would be. the whole "chosen one" is literally "the person that Voldemort chose". the record in the hall of prophecy (and presumably the enchantment that protected it) was updated after Harry was attacked

@@custard131 Yes, and no. Seeing as how a prophecy predicts THE FUTURE. No matter who it's POSSIBLY about, Neville could never be the chosen one, because Voldemort would always choose Harry. I know it kind of sounds weird, but think of it this way. A prophecy never CONTROLS the future, it PREDICTS it. Dumbledore said, that Voldemort put too much on the prophecy since it is the actions that make the prophecy come true, not the prophecy that makes the actions happen. That said, the prophecy could not have been made to begin with, if Voldemort had not been so obsessed with the prophecy, because that is what makes it come true. Which then means: Neville could never have been the chosen one, because the prophecy was ALWAYS about Harry. That is how prophecies work. The only reason for the confusion is that it doesn't say anything outright. That was very confusing, but I think you get the idea.

Also I'm curious if Remus would still be the DA teacher for that year if Sirius doesn't escape, like does he apply that year because Sirius escapes from Azkaban, what's the timeline on that?

I believe Dumbledore approaches him specifically to help him look out for Sirius. Lupin probably would have been reluctant due to his condition as well and would only have agreed for the sake of the fact that it's Sirius. So most likely Lupin wouldn't be the DADA teacher that year (or perhaps ever).

@GoeTeeks no, Lupin couldn’t find the job cause no one wants to hire a werewolf. That was the main reason Dumbledore invited him. Also Remus didn’t value his life much to care about possible curse on the position. As for fear to harm students - there’s no reason to, because he is provided with wolfsbane potion, that didn’t exist in his childhood. And consider this potion is expensive, to get it for free plus a good job was to good of an offer to pass.

I’ve been curious about if Peter never feared for his safety and simply remained a rat. How long could he stay with the Weasleys? Surely Hermione, or someone, would start wondering how a rat is still alive after a decade or so.

I think the Marauders used the Fidelius charm on the map, so only they see each other, so Harry couldn't see Peter even if he is relative to James.

I love these 'what if' style episodes! like if Harry wasn't sent to the Dursleys but instead adopted by the Weasleys, (if Dumbledore never found out about the whole blood protection thing, Harry probably wouldn't end up with ginny, seeing as they would grow up as brother and sister. (if Dumbledore never found out about the whole blood protection thing)

Great theory but please continue it! If Sirius is freed and exonerated that means he will look after Harry? What will this mean for the Order of the Phoenix? Sirius will be of better help, he would have been able to give Harry the mirror, plus if Harry never goes beck to the Dursley’s maybe Harry doesn’t fight the dementor’s which means Harry doesn’t have a hearing, therefore doesn’t recognise the room or know how to get into the ministry. Also Sirius could have potentially filled the DATDA’s post? I could go on but there are so many changes.

I could imagine the following scenario: First school year ends. One underground Death Eater (probably Barty Jr. or Bellatrix) learns of Harry's first year and discovers his residence at Privet Drive. Harry escapes, but the Dursleys die. Then, Dumbledore arranges his refuge at the Grangers to keep him safe from more Death Eater attacks. I got this idea because Harry's blood protection through aunt Petunia only applies to Voldemort, but not his followers, or am I mistaken?@@mienfu9824

I believe that if Harry went to Diagon Alley with the Weasleys that year, and Ron still didn't have a new wand, Harry would've bought him one. The only other possibility I see is the Weasleys giving Ron another old family wand. They wouldn't have sent him back to Hogwarts with a broken wand.

That wand literally f'd up a man's life and his ability to function independently. The risk of letting Ron continue using that wand is just too big. The fact that Hogwarts allowed him to go through an entire year with it is unbelievable. It's like going to school with a backpack full of wrong books, pens and pencils that don't work and a calculator that may or may not give the right results. That is like child abuse and complete waste of a school year for the child.

i have always had a personal theory that Dumbledore fixed the lottery so that the Weasleys won, I know you cant always say Dumbledore did it when ever anything mysterious happens but this does seem like something he would do. Some of the reasons he would are that he wanted to support arthur and molly who were supporters of his and he liked, another is to thumb his nose at Lucius that the Weasleys had something good because he was responsible for all that happened, another is he knew Ginny had gone through a terrible ordeal and could do with a vacation and a nice time to recuperate.

I always assumed the winning ticket came via Dummbledor because the headmaster knew Sirius was innocent. The Timeturner was going to be used to save Buckbeak; Sirius was not mentioned but Dummbledor said "if you are successful, you would have saved TWO innocent lives." The Headmaster already knew !

Dumbledore did not realize Sirius was innocent till Sirius told him the whole story which happened offscreen before Harry Wakes up from the dementor attack

One issue: Barty Crouch Jr broke out like 10 years earlier. And it was only with Voldemort coming to his house was he freed from his father’s imperious curse. So he never would have broken free to go to Voldemort.

I have a theory about the whole kerfuffle with the twins never noticing Peter Pettigrew on the Marauder's Map. During the entire time the Map was in the twins' hands, every few nights after Ron fell asleep with Scabbers in his arms, Peter slipped away, briefly took human form, then grabbed the nearest Wand he could find and cast a quick nullification Charm on the Map to hide his own presence on it. But the effects were temporary. They would wear off after a few days. The spellwork to make the nullification permanent would require a more complex ritual that he did not have time to do while everyone slept, so all he could manage was the temporary version of the spell. During Prisoner of Azkaban, Peter was aware that Sirius was in the castle and after him, so he couldn't risk taking human form to recast the nullification on the map, which is why Harry saw Peter on the map during that year.

10:27 - Barty Crouch Jr. was held captive by his father, only reason he was freed, was because Wormtail had brought Bertha Jorkins to Voldemort during his escape/return to Voldemort. (Bertha had learned about Barty secret, but Crouch Sr. had used Obliviate charm to make her forget. Voldemort was able to break through this, and find out Crouch Jr. was alive, and with help of Wormtail freed him.)

Just a side note, the only marauders can see marauders theory is bologna. Snape explicitly says he saw Lupin go under the Womping Willow on the map. He couldnt have seen the others because Lupin saw them disappear off the edge before Snape ever got there

I'm only at 4:31 and I can already see a potential problem here. In Chamber of Secrets, Harry got a warning because Dobby smashed pudding. Here, Harry accidentally inflated his aunt. Fudge was willing to let him off, in part because he really hadn't yet been faced with hard choices (like admitting Sirius was innocent or admitting that Voldemort was back)that turned him against Harry, as well as fearing for Harry's safety because of Black's escape. Without the second one, it's possible Harry may have faced expulsion.
