I got a set of Re-Molded tires from TreadWright (goo.gl/svH1nU ) . They are partially made from recycled tire casings with new rubber applied and cured the way they make new tires.

Lots of haters here. We ran remolds in the military for years and never had a problem unless they lost pressure, which was rarer than virgin tires because they're heavier-duty. Run a virgin tire low, and it's just as flat.

Ya. That’s a good way to cross thread your lug nuts. You should never just put the lug nut in the socket and zip it on. Take the extra few seconds to thread the lug nut on by hand a few threads before you zap it on with the impact.

True, I quit doing that. The Impact has a low setting, but that's still probably enough.

Okay so I just put a set on today for my 2017 2500,. Off jump, all 4 tires did balance out at a 0 0 0, the most amount of weight used was only 7oz. 2 out of 4 are great and ready to rock. 2 are bad, 1 has began to peel apart so the center is high in one spot and smooth the rest. The other tire has a bad bead. So I will be rolling with 2 warden and 2 Ironman MT tires in the rear. As much as I would recommend these tires to people, I wouldn’t due to issues from the 4mile drive home from the tire shop

Big oil and new tire manufacturers/retailers pushed the high-standard/high-quality American recapping industry out of business here in the States..When I was in high school back in the late '60's, working part-time after school, all I could afford for my old beater car was retreads from JCPenney Tire/Auto Center. I ran retreads on my cars until they quit selling them in mid-80's, almost 20 yrs.. I never had a problem from a bad cap. The technology and advanced materials for making recapped tires nowadays that get great mileage with safety equal to new tires exists, and has for some time.. Sears, Penney's, Wards, and other giant companies of the day, also required high standards (of the recap industry) for the recapped tires they sold. On sale, I could get "out the door" at Penney's with a full set of 4, mounted, balanced, stems, warranty, for about $60 or less. On average, cars were heavier back then too, so more tire stress.

I ran recaps in high school all the time and had no problems It makes me question all the tire store standard that used to say tires were only good 10 years and now they say 6 years. But, a recap or Remold might be on a tire that is 20 yrs old if it passes inspection before being recapped. I question this standard???????? That standard makes stores like Discount Tire refuse to fix a flat on a tire 7 yrs old!!!!!!!! they say you need a new tire !!!!!

If I drove a tractor-trailer yes because if one goes down you have 17 more. In a personal truck with only 4 tires, hell no. True sometimes these last bit many times they don't. Google it. And when they do fail its typically tread separation. I don't want to be driving down the highway 65 mph when something like that happens. If price is important to you in tires then there are plenty of economy models of major name brands that you can pick that will probably hold up better and if they don't the company will make it right. You're on your own when you use retreads.

Yeah but if a Bridgestone fails you're going to get paid. If a treadwright fails you're just going to get the oops sorry you bought a retread. That's what a lot of these people don't understand. Any tire can fail. But you have a lot more recourse if it's a major company and it's a new tire. You're just screwed if it's a retread.

The new rubber is laid in as virgin rubber and wraps from bead-to-bead before it's placed in the mold and vulcanized (cured). The carcass and fresh rubber are just as much one piece as a brand new tire would be. These are nothing like a "recapped" tire where already cured rubber tread is glued to a carcass.

Not if you air them down to go off roading, apparently, because treadwright specifically says not to do that. Hmmm.... what does that tell you? Once again, you are not saving much money even if you have zero problems with these tires. If you do have problems they will cost you a lot more than new tires. Not just in money, but time, headaches and possible safety issues. But hey, at least you're recycling and can feel good about that! Hahahaha
@PoeRacing

@@jamesnm21 I've run Treadwrights for the last ten years. Several sets in several different sizes. I air them down all the time and have never had a problem. These tires have the same failure rate as tires made with brand new carcases. They have to meet the same testing and safety standards. All tire companies will void their warranties if you run the tires with improper air pressure. So yeah, I've had zero problems with these tires and have saved hundreds of dollars. Probably saved thousands by now. The only tire I have ever had a catastrophic failure with was a BFG KO2 with ~5,000 miles on it. I'm gonna stick with data, evidence, performance and testing standards when I decide which tires I buy.

Only issue I've ever had was sometimes they can be a pain to balance. They are more reliable than they were in the 60s and 70s. The only tread I ever lost was on a virgin tire on my trailer once.

Guys... the gentleman in the video are talking about re-treading OFF ROAD tires. Those tires have VERY STRONG side walls, and also off road activity wears out the tire sooner than the vehicle is on the road. If you try to re-tread a tire that is 10 years old Touring tire, of course you are going to kill yourself. But for me, my Continental Terrain Contact had done 100,000km in two years, and the tire is 2 years old, with no sidewall damage, 100% I am going for the re-treading route. I do re-treading not to save the money, but to save the environment.

No. I would not buy remolded tires with old dried out rubber in them that can crack and fail. I would buy new tires because rubber has an expiration date. Plus the extra weight lowers fuel mileage on top of the balancing issues. And all to save a few bucks and be "green"? Yeah. Not worth it.

Yea, and in the first 500 miles I measured a hot spot in the tread, some .065 inch of the tread was already gone. Tires do get warm when driving, but they should be the same temp all around. Any hot spot indicates a dangerous life threatening explosive blowout at speed. You may be hauling a load, maybe the horses, or that nice camp trailer. Do you really want to spread the load all over the highway? I believed all those great reviews, but most are sponsored or are initial installations, not tires with driven miles. For those not familiar with tires, a hot spot developed while driving is what causes tires to come apart. I use the industry standard for measuring temperature, a Raytek infrared remote sensing tool. Had it for years as I am a retired mechanic, and I took a chance on Treadwright tires. Warranty department was less than helpful. Once you buy, consider yourself a hazard to yourself and everyone around you. They state a failure rate equal with new tires, but that depends upon what warranty department thinks when you contact them. One faulty tire for every six delivered is more than new tires. I just wished someone had told me.
