I was in a DBT program about five years ago or so. I "graduated" and as I like to put it, my Borderline went into remission. Lately, I've been having a difficult time, so I enrolled in a DBT program again. It has helped me immensely. Seriously people, I would look into DBT. If you stick with it, I really think you'll find healing

I really struggle with...knowing if I'm the problem, or someone else is? Like, I can learn all these things, but when I go to practice them, it just ends up being my fault anyways? It feels like a vicious cycle of self-doubt, and I don't feel like I'll ever get better. Like if I explain something made me feel a certain way, I get accused of "manipulating" them and trying to make them feel bad.

"Like if I explain something made me feel a certain way, I get accused of "manipulating" them and trying to make them feel bad." -- take it from someone who is blessed with good friends and family, but still has depression: FUCK those people. This is so helpful. I was just recently diagnosed with BPD, and I want to find out more about DBT Therapy. Please do more videos on DBT therapy. It sounds quite intriguing. I want to get the workbook (and I probably will) but it all seems a little intimidating right now, so your videos are a great start for me to easily learn some of the concepts before diving in! By the way, I love your videos! You are a great communicator and are able to make heavy topics seem not-so-heavy. I love that you intersperse humour with solid teaching so that it is easier to receive and learn. Also, thank you for making mental health issues seem not so 'crazy'. You talk about them - and solutions to them - in a matter of fact way, so I end up feeling ok about my struggles with mental health issues. Thanks!

Thank you, thank you, thank you for putting out these videos for all of us out here in need of a bit of assistance and don't really feel we can afford therapy. I am thinking that this bit of information is going to help me so much when I am feeling so overwhelmed and then I respond with such emotions of tears and heavy crying. I don't want to get to that point again in front of my adult children and friends. I am hoping this is going to be something that I can do to help me in the future. I would love to have the therapy because I know that I have to have some issues coming out of a home with a mother that had bipolar disorder and maybe she also had BPD. I am so sorry that I never learned for certain what my mother suffered from, but I am now 59 years old and I really know that the family of siblings is suffering and has been for years. It appears that I am the only one that has really been able to admit this and I removed myself from the family off and on all my life. I just knew that it wasn't healthy for me and it was also very painful to neglect my family at the same time. I struggled quietly all my life and now worry that I too, have passed this down to my own children that are all grown now and successful wonderful people. I often had so much pushed down pain and allowed abuse from my sibling for years on and off because I didn't allow myself to become fully aware of my part in the abuse by accepting it. I just tried to stay away with a constant pull at my heart of wanting to have a family and maybe it would be possible and then I would try again and end up with the same results. Not able to have a family. No contact now for good if I am strong enough to do it. So very sad to me, but I must work on myself and try to do better now for myself and my own family. Healing needs to take place. Thank you so much for being a positive face on the internet reaching out to so many of us. It is so appreciated.

DBT is my life jacket! Literally. Saved me from drowning in a sea of overwhelm, depression, embarrassment N everything else while going thru a messy, hurtful separation & child custody war. My therapist recommend to take the 4 modules twice to better grasp N understand it. 2nd time I fully absorb DBTs benefits. Teflon Mind was a huge help to begin. (mind was to clogged for mindfulness) Radical acceptances was a huge part of my healing, by right, Radical Acceptance could have its own module! Was hesitant about going to group -'w/people'.... But, the group part turned out to be great because you learn from others questions as well. DBT helped me cope then later to survive. It is a lot of work but worth it! I felt sad(2nd x around) when someone would just drop group.

My psychiatrist is gonna have me start DBT but I don't want to do group therapy. I don't want to be around people. I don't feel like meeting new people. I actually enjoy always being alone. I also do not want homework. I don't feel like I would have the energy to do it unless it was to binge watch Netflix after work.

I understand about not wanting to be in a group especially if you work, going to work 8 hours is enough of being around people, but you should not always want to be alone, its not healthy and homework makes you remember. I do church classes and we are reading a book and it helps me remember the principals of the book and my religion.

I get that sometimes the treatments sound like a drag or even impossible (I was the same with my OCD and ERP) but if you truly want to improve your life you have to try these and give it your best attempt, even if it makes you uncomfortable, because the objetive is for you to be able to feel uncomfortable but still live your life the best way possible

Hi Kati! I have just recently been engaged with my therapist to do DBT after years of being unsuccessful with CBT. I was diagnosed with Severe Depression, BPD, Bulimia and also recently my therapist said that I also have traits of Dependant Personality Disorder. I am quite skeptical if DBT will work and I am quite scared actually. But watching your video gives me some kind of a reassurance that its gonna be ok and that I will get better with time. But I am worried if DBT does not really help me with my array of mental illnesses. But I am considered lucky that my therapist didn't transfer me out to other therapists and is still willing to help me despite it being so hard. I really hope to get better and recover and that DBT will somehow work for me. Thanks Kati for d wonderful videos that gives insight to various mental illnesses and how to cope with them and what to expect. Appreciate it so so much!

Thank you for the vid. Also, excellent "linkage" to CBT in the emotional regulation pillar of DBT. You seem to be a good instructor. I love doing group therapy as well as individual. My steps are to do about 3 to 4 weeks didactic, teaching the group members about the topic, lets say 'shame and guilt' as well as the therapeutic modality(s) we are all going to use. Then switch to a process type group where we utilize what we learned about the topic using the modality we also learned. It is during the process that I would incorporate individual sessions as well. I am only 13 years in recovery and 10 years working in this field. Is there a better way to go about the group process than the one that I exampled? Again, thank you for the information and the video.

This concept called DBT and the women brainstorming, designing and implementing this is a massive advancement in 21st century healthcare! and yet nobody I know has heard of DBT! It’s a result oriented, measurable/definable approach to ALL mental/physical issues, yet there’s no platform or advocacy explaining it. LONG wait lists from only “word of mouth” advertisement -so thank you for this! Please do more on DBT!

You are a GOD SEND for putting these videos on KZfaq. Also, I find it funny how people say therapy twice with DBT. Lol.

Hey, I'm in a DBT group here in Tampa, Florida and it's pretty helpful. We do have a workbook and the four modules..We started with mindfulness and to learn how to look at facts without judging...This is much harder than it looks.

Your videos are very informative and I really like watching them. I would point out at something that soothes me a lot while watching you speaking which is you always use the pronoun "we" which I find so compassionate and accepting as if you are so close to us in a way that you really understand what we go through. Thank you so much for those videos and keep up the good work.

I went to your website and couldn't find the DBT workbook you mentioned. I am highly interested in learning MUCH more about DBT and working on myself and my BPD. I feel happiest when I am doing homework because it feels like I'm actively getting better and doing good for myself.
