Discourse and discourse analysis are defined, briefly, in three ways: 1) as language beyond the sentence, 2) as language in use, and 3) as larger social processes that precede and are produced by language.

Amazing how you managed to explain DA in just a few minutes, thank you so much. 🙂 also critical discourse studies would find your seemingly subconscious choice of using “she“ when referring to the nurse interesting 😉😉😉😉

discourse analysis is one of the disciplines,that deals with language use.it's about how sentences,the most complex uh not within a language systeme ;are actually put to use and combined with each other. a discourse: is a set of spoken and written sentences that are connected together in a cohesive manner to make sense.

Hello Mr. I just found this video refer to my research to use discourse approach/analysis. I have a question related to this video (Discourse). what about discourse analysis to determine the equivalence and difference of two kind things from socio-cultural perspective to discourse analysis (socially or culturally based discursive practices).
@IMR954 жыл бұрын
So a research looking at flouting maxim in a movie between characters, would that be categorized as discourse analysis?

What's the difference between discourse and prejudice? If I think of a rock, my view of rocks represent a discourse or is it a prejudice, meaning I'm projecting from my thoughts what a rock is vs actually knowing or understanding what a rock is.
@carahomes4652 жыл бұрын
I may be misinterpreting, but an inanimate object such as a rock can never reply, therefore, discourse never happens. However, if say you have a prejudice against people wearing cabbages for hats, then having a conversation with said hat wearing cabbage person start a discourse and potentially highlight any prejudices you have. Discourse = conversation. Prejudice thoughts are not discourse, just a mindset.
