"What is infrared heating?" I still don't know, is it heating coils or some kind of light?

The Sun not only produces ultraviolet radition but infrared. Which is what actually provides the warmth we feel within our bodies and on our faces. I've just ordered 2 that come with wall mounts and apparently have all of the current technolgy built in. ie... they switch on when you enter the room and have the usual thermostat and power settings. At around £270 each they ain't cheap, but over at least 10 years im definitely saving money and importanly... keeping warm.

You're absolutely right! Infrared heaters produce radiant warmth without any UV rays, making them completely safe when it comes to providing lasting warmth. We're happy to hear you've found a heating solution that works for you! Thanks The ERD Team

Hi, Can you share some thoughts on cons of infrared heating. Specially, does it cause any kind of health issues or suffocation in the house or emitting any dangerous/poisonous gases when laid under a PVC/laminate floor ?

This video is an advertisement. It's only efficient when you can sit still in one place. To warm up a room for a longer period, it's cheaper to use a convector heater to heat the air in the entire room.

Isn't electricity four times more expensive than gas?
@ElectricRadiatorsDirect
@ElectricRadiatorsDirect Жыл бұрын
While it’s true that gas is cheaper per kWh, around 50-70% of heat can be lost to the combustion process and through poorly insulated pipework. Electric radiators don't have this problem as they are 100% efficient at point of use, ensuring you’re only paying for the heat you use. Plus, many modern electric heaters come with smart control features such as 24/7 programming, WiFi control, open window detection and adaptive start, all of which help to trim running costs whilst making your system more efficient. We hope this has helped. Not true. They use between 3 and 4 times more power than heat pumps for the same amount of heat.
@andymoore9977

@@johnrogers1423 But do heat pumps actually put the heat where you need it? Also a lot of research tends to indicate only 150% ASHP efficiency when the weather gets very cold..... just when you need the heat! Maybe an ASHP for background heat and IR for zone heat is the answer. But on saying that, an ASHP would cost me £15k to £20k to install and IR only about £2k. I am told servicing costs for an ASHP will be about £250 a year and if the system fails I will have no heating at all!. Will I save £1k+ a year over 15 years relying solely on an ASHP?

All electric heaters are 100% efficient. Ignore the manufacturers who try to claim that their product is better based on this figure.

Hi there, You're absolutely correct! All electric heaters are 100% efficient at point of use, making them much more efficient than other systems such as gas, which see a lot of heat loss. What sets infrared heaters apart is that they don't rely on convection to keep you warm, which means heat isn't lost to air movement caused by draughts or open doors. Instead, they use radiant warmth which travels in a wave to heat you and surrounding objects directly. Ultimately, there's less wasted heat with infrared, which does help to make them that bit more efficient. Hope this clears things up. For any further questions, don't hesitated to get in touch! 100% efficiency sounds good until you realise that heat pumps are between 300% and 400% efficient.

I have been researching this and found that ASHP can be as low as 150% efficient in very cold weather - just when you need them! Then you have consider that a typical central heating system is wasting heat in areas where it is not needed. Zonal heating, well managed by smart apps, is the long term solution.

@@andymoore9977 an Air Conditioner unit (with heating capability) in each room is the long term solution. smart apps? only if a secondary means of managing them is available. ;-)

Hi there, We know the term ‘radiation’ can sound a little daunting, but infrared heat is entirely safe. Our bodies are constantly emitting and absorbing infrared warmth. It’s the reason you feel warmer once the sun comes out from behind a cloud (minus the UV rays), or the warmth you feel from a hug - it’s soothing, natural, and is nothing to be concerned about. In fact, there are numerous benefits associated with infrared heat: it lasts longer so your radiator can spend more time switched off, plus it’s a natural damp & mould preventer. Many of the infrared panels we supply can even be ceiling mounted, keeping them safely out of reach, while you still benefit from their warmth. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out via email or by giving us a call. Thanks The ERD Team
