This video describes the construct of misattribution of arousal. This theory links attraction and arousal. Arousal is a heightened state of alertness. This This concept was first made popular by the publication of a study in 1974 by Dutton and Aron. This study used two bridges, one which was 450 feet long and 230 feet off the ground (experimental bridge). The other bridge was 10 feet off the ground (control bridge). The researchers used an attractive female experimenter to approached unaccompanied males between the ages of 18 and 35. She asked them to complete a survey and write a brief dramatic story about a neutral image. The female experimenter then wrote down her phone number and gave it to the participants and indicated that they could call her to ask more about the study. Of those who agreed to take the phone number on the experimental bridge, 9 of 18 called the female experimenter compared just 2 out of 16 on the control bridge.

This theory reminds me of the confirmation bias, instead of looking for reasons to prove someone's point, people are looking at only the positives/negatives in someone of interest. It's almost like they are choosing to like someone before they even know them. I wonder if this is why so many people end up in relationships that are not the best for them?

This is certainly an interesting study and more specifically interesting on findings of how arousal can influence attractiveness. I never thought about how finding someone unattractive still unattractive after arousal until after watching this video.

Your explanation makes sense. I could imagine going on a date with someone and seeing a horror film and how that would heighten my emotions. I know that would not make me like them if I didn’t already. Similarly to the way bonds are formed, there must be genuine interest.

can I use this to trick myselfe to like a good person? i sadly only find way to controling people attrctive (yes, i have some issues to work through), but can i try to trick myselfe into liking someone who I know is a great, kind and genuin person and i should like, but since i apparently can only feel unhealty attraktion i was wondering if i can use this to trick myslefe into liking a decent person...
