Well said, mate - the composition determines the aspect ratio. I must say, I’m enjoying playing with this more in-camera with the X2D than I did with other cameras - mainly due to the simple menu system and all those spare pixels. But that said, I’ve always cropped my images to suit the composition in post. Your second and third images are gorgeous. I feel like I’m there. Great work, mate.

Some real good advice I’m still stuck in the print days of 8 x 10, 5 x 7, 16 x 20. I just started using a square format which is funny I used to shoot a Hasselblad that was square format. Another good video.

You captured some really nice images there! Do you like the little aspect viewer thing? I tend to use my phone for a 2D representation of the scene and early compositions, but those framing/composition guides look interesting.

Yeah, the viewcatcher is a very handy tool. It’s easily wiped out of the pocket to quickly frame up a composition. I really enjoy it! Thanks for the kind comments, and thank you stopping in 😃

The best aspect ratio depends on the subject, as simple. And often there are several good options. But I fully agree that many people do just use the camera aspect ratio without thinking about the aspect ratio. The same goes for the perspective, which is more important than the focal length. Zooming by foot is nonsense and will only work for flat objects (reprography like...).
