My first bow and only bow to date was a 2011 Quest Hammer. Took it in to get new string put on in December (for the first time since I bought it), and made the mistake of testing a Lift while I was there waiting. I always scoffed at a new bows since equipment is only a small part of being a good hunter, and the Fred Bear's of the world had massively inferior stuff even compared to that Quest. The feel of that bow and the encouragement of my 14 y.o. son (massively into bowhunting and turned me on to you guys) burned a hole right through my credit card. Credit to you guys encouraging people learn and to work on their own bows as well led to the purchase of a press from podium archer (with the Tim C discount code) and here we go! Thanks for all you do and keep sharing that knowledge, it made a difference for me!

Like you said, Mathews marketing is miles ahead of anyone else. That and making a solid bow is what makes them the most popular. I personally hate their draw cycle but it's no surprise that they are the undisputed top dog in sales.

Love the scramble idea! In case you do have some people clean up with 12s, a good tie breaker is a must. One idea is to have single arrow shoot offs. If you use the moose (iconic), have 1 person from each team shoot for score. Probs at distance. If each person shoots the same score, increase the distance and have a different team member shoot. That way the team has to strategize about which shooter shoots when. Do you start with the best shot or save them for a later distance?

I have noticed certain types of archers who know a little bit about setting up bows (especially their own) walk around with an air of superiority. I also know outdoor target archers who take FOREVER to shoot off ONE arrow on a 3D course, making everyone else behind them wait. I go out and have fun with much friendly ribbing and not taking it so seriously.
@huntsimple9527
@huntsimple9527 6 ай бұрын
I like it. We do our own bow set ups, but we hardly walk around and with air of superiority. We just like to work on our own stuff to learn and grow. In the end, I like to learn from archers who consistently hit the X versus the ones who walk around looking tough but can't shoot any better than me.

Glad to hear bowtech is taking some heat to the pocket book for what they did to tim and kyle. That was slimey to do that to them late in the season after everyone had their contracts locked in... and glad to see Mathews being rewarded for the title....its an outstanding bow and what they did for Tim and Kyle is commendable. I can understand what you are saying about target archery.... to a degree. Maybe its different here in Canada because almost all our target archers are hunters too. When I got into the sport I was welcomed and helped by a ton of the local shooters. There is the odd stuck up person but they are almost known to the community, lol. It can be intimidating starting out because you see such hi-tech bows, but when you get paired up together in a group at a 3d shoot you are all best friends after 3 targets and no one cares about your gear or how you shoot. Its almost always good fun and joking around the entire shoot. The indoor statement may be because its a different crowd to some degree? I guess you get a bit more of that world archery recurve kind of vibe I think... The most stuck up people I have met in archery are often the super serious recurve shooters....they hate compound shooters and never miss a chance to say something against shooting compound .... But there are plenty of people that just love archery and enjoy shooting every style. Its all just sticks and strings and no one style is better than the other. Maybe I will get a different vibe when I head to lancasters indoor shoot. That will surely tell me if the indoor crowd is stuck up or not.

I think the perception of outdoor tournaments seem easier simply because a person doesn’t typically ruin their event with one arrow. As indoor it’s most likely 1 out and you’re done.

I love the idea of more fun shoots! We copied one of your videos for some of our Sunday 3D shoots.... If there's 4 of us shooting we choose one person's release for everyone to shoot at each target. It would be awesome to do a 4 person scramble where one release of shared for each target, or certain targets. It's a huge equalizer because you can have the very best shooter who always shoots a hinge and suddenly he has to make a 60 yard shot with a wrist rocket ...

One day I’ll be able to afford a target bow. That is the only reason I don’t have one yet. I do shoot an SS34 and it’s nice but I use it for hunting because I have a 31” draw length. And when they say it’s hard to get a bow to tune at long lengths, they aren’t lying. One day I’ll come up there and see if you or your staff could help me out getting tuned up. I’m always tinkering with stuff to get better. I got a home shop for myself, and have been making my own strings as well.

I like the fact that you are bringing up target archery along with bow hunting, I have been getting into target archery to keep myself occupied during the winter months. I have a few dilemmas with it, I currently can't afford a new bow and I shoot a lower poundage (45 pounds). What is my best options to make switching between target (larger diameter arrows) and hunting/3D (smaller diameter arrows for better distance). The best solutions that I have come up with is have a target sight and a 3D sight so they both stay dialed in, but it will be a pain to switch between them. Or stay dialed in on my hunting setup and then just slide down to whatever point to line up for 20 yards for my target setup. I have a trophy ridge digital react single pin sight.

What I have done for using 1 bow for multiple styles is to get a spot hogg swap blade rest so you can change the bodies for different arrows and tune them however you need to... and then get an axcel achieve or some kinda of target sight with clicks and use the outer number scale for your sight tapes/ yardages. The numbers are very repeatable. When I change to shoot indoors I swap to my indoor rest and then dial my sight to 16.45 and have an ultraview scope with different cartridges that I use... One has a dot for indoor and 50m, the other has a pin for 3d. With my TRX set up I can shoot 3 different arrows out of the bow with changes that take no more than 2 minutes.... the biggest effort is getting your sight numbers all figured out for each arrow. If you can not shoot a blade, I think the hamskea epsilon could be the ticket. I believe it uses clicks so you can track your rest movements between arrows... the main thing is to write down all the information you need to change things around. Best of luck!

I bought the Go stix 2.0 for my Fortis 33, (which I use for target and 3D as we cannot hunt) it fits without the pockets interfering (keeps it from turning) sad part is it doesn't reach the ground while my 15" stab and the cam is on the ground. If you're going to make one, interchangeable length legs would be nice. Thought Snyder was hunting with the Ethos, he accidentally leaked it previously.

Don't be afraid of it cuz that's a hell of a way to do it. When I bought my first bow brand new at my pro shop I went in I bought it and you know you see him hanging on the shelf and all that and I thought I'd be taking it home like that day or something. No it was like a week to 2 week week cuz he had to get it build it and you know I'll give you mad props for that man and if I end up with some extra money and you have a lift available I'll fly my ass out there and buy it from PA

I am a traditional shooter. I go to a lot of trad events in multiple states. One event we do is similar to your water bag thing is water bottles. You have a T post with a pully on each end of the T with a bottle on a rope that goes up over one pully over to other pully and down to other bottle. The loser is whoever bottle hits the ground first

Would be interesting to hear the take on previous versions of target bows like the trx34 if you can find one vs a lift 29.5, where price points are close and the features aren’t both using the same feature updates year over year. I have a v3 27” which i jumped from a mission hammr that was my first bow. Huge upgrade but I’m now considering moving to a longer ata bow and am not yet sold on overall ata length over “latest and greatest” features in a slightly longer hunting marketed bow

I’ve been in the archery game since I was a little kid maybe 6 or 7 years old to now 35, mainly target shooting and 3D with a little bit of whitetail hunting. And lately my focus has been hunting. Can you guys elaborate on hunting set ups and arrow configuration for someone with say a 25” draw. I have found the outdoor 3d field to be worse than the indoor groups. At 3D events local and national I have had people look at me weird, say I'm shooting up too high of a class, say I should get a longer axle to axle bow, and alot of other negative stuff shooting ASA events. Then I will shoot even or up and gain their respect later by shooting a short ATA hunting bow in ASA. What they don't know is i shoot all the TACs, R100, and MAF events. I shoot a title 38 now though and will wreck them this year. Going into it with a hunger this year.
