My 90 year old grandma had to ride a horse to school by the first grade and then she got pneumonia from riding in the rain and then had to repeat the first grade. She would hear coyotes and mountain lions attacking her family's farm animals almost nightly. Once she had to run away from the house since a bear had come from the mountains and was eating their berries. Now that was OG in the wild Pacific Northwest
