The game understood Spiderman really well , the story the performance the voice acting the gameplay the swinging everything was perfect

To me it was purely the world. The random events the zipping around, thinking about it makes me want to finish the platinum. Edit: Got it!

What made it a big deal? One word. LOVE. Insomniac were FANS of the character. It felt like they made the game for themselves as much as the consumers.

Basically any game that makes you travel or in this case web through the city instead of fast travelling is a "big deal" kind of a game.

You could tell this was a dream project for Insomniac it literally felt like a game by fans for fans

As a PC gamer, I am glad to understand why it's a big deal. Will patiently wait for 2 in the coming years

I have almost 1000 hours in this game. I loved every bit of it. Sure the MJ and Miles parts were not that fun, but overall, this is THE Spider-Man game.

Everything. TBH perfection peak gaming. From side missions to collectibles everything was top notch fun and filled with lore. No bloat.

For me it was the story. The comics have unfortunately been terrible for several years now and I’m one of those few people who just never cared for Tom Hollands “Iron Man jr” take on the character so there hasn’t been much Spidey content for a while that I enjoyed. Then in middle of this drought came the PS4 game with an older, more experienced Spider-man with most of his classic villains appearing. It was like a classic take on the Stan Lee era of comics through a slightly modern lens without loosing what made the character and his stories timeless

I also loved the tiny skill-based realization - in the prologue you beat the living daylights out of the goons. Then as you progress and learn more how to play as Spidey you find out that you can be more effective and a pacifist (character-accurate) by hitting someone near a wall or making them fall and then shooting web on them to keep them in place. Replaying the prologue with that mechanical knowledge took me 1/3 the time of my first run.

This was one of those games that you can play and pretty much not do anything and have a good time on. Just swinging and running around was so damn satisfying imo.

Spider-Man immersed me in the role, same with the Arkham series, you feel like Batman. I think both just have nailed the super hero game formula. The combat just feels so damn good. Granted Spidey just feels so much better to web swing around the absolutely gorgeous NYC, and the scale of the city is incredibly realized.

The story really is one of the best Spider-Man stories told. That's not a hot take

Spider-Man was the whole reason I got a PS4. I was dying for more Spider-Man games to play and when I seen it drop in 2018 I was convinced I needed one. I was an Xbox player but Spider-Man almost immediately made a PlayStation player. I bought the PS5 for the sequel and I will stay a PlayStation player as long as they keep dropping more Spider-Man games or just stuff to keep me interested. I bought the PS4 game for the ability to play as Spider-Man, but the story and photo mode as well as the variety of suits kept me so interested in the game I had to buy the remaster the day it dropped as well.

so here's the gist of it, Insomniac took the open world Spider-Man formula that Activision was struggling with for years after Spider-Man 2 and just perfected it to a T. Now it looks like Insomniac's Spider-Man 2 will go even further.

One of the things that makes this game so great is the pacing. Of course everything mentioned in the video is absolutely true, but man, the pacing is perfect, you never get bored. Swinging around is great, combat is awesome and punching random enemies on the street feels rewarding (while getting some nice xp for suits), getting all the collectibles is also fun, every backpack has a little fun story, side missions are engaging and pretty deep but never feel too long, and when you stop messing around and decide to continue the story the game doesn't stop, the flow keeps going and going with the help of great music and atmosphere. You wanna keep playing because every minute of gameplay feels worthy of your time, not a simple sign of grind. Never a dull moment, it's very carefully crafted and that's the reason I've gotten the platinum trophy three times without feeling tired (PS4, PS5 and again on PS5 with my second account).

My favorite part of the entire experience of this game was the feeling i got when i realized they did every open world line twice, depending on Spider-Man's current action

Insomniac knows spiderman. That's why it's so good. They chose perfect voice actors. Chose the perfect story with the perfect spiderman beats. The perfect score. It's all because insomniac had a 100% complete understanding of what their game needed to be.

Just that beautiful opening after not playing a Spiderman game in years with the music and just throwing you straight into the web swinging.

I have always wanted one thing in a Spiderman game: web contact. I want to web a building in the air to the right, then swing under a bridge, crane, or even street light, then have the web line actually make contact with the pole/bridge, and it just SHOOTS you into the air. Like it needs to give you a speed boost like it would in real life. This could also help with better turns around the corners of buildings. The moment you turn around a corner, your web connects, and you get shot around with bonus momentum (depending on where your web impacts the corner).

I was at my sister’s and her boyfriend had just got the game (I was an Xbox player at the time) I had no interest in the game until I watched him play it and he handed me the controller and let me swing around and i immediately felt like it was 2005 playing the old Spider-Man 2.

The story and the recreation/look of NYC were the highlights imo. The gameplay was ok but left a little to be desired for me. If they can keep that level of storytelling and exploration while adding to the gameplay, Spiderman 2 could be phenomenal.

I love these types of video from you guys. I played this game right when I started university and it lasted me until near the end of first year, got so much value out of it and took so many great photos using the photo mode, it definitely helped bring my game photo mode skills to where they are now. Definitely one of my favourite Spidey stories of all time and Yuri is my number 1 Spidey! Would be so cool if you did this video for the Transformers Cybertron pair of games!

I've put about 100 hours just into the Ps5 remaster of the game, Spidey is my guy -my favorite fictional character and with gaming being my passion, it feels so good finally having some all around great Spider-man games. Insomniac really gets it -its not enough to have just good swining mechanics, you need to marry it with excellent combat, a compelling narrative with deep characters, a New York that feels real and lived in. But it wasn't just that, Insomniac went above and beyond to give Spidey fans a version of the character we don't get in the movies or comics anymore, and it all just ends up being kinda perfect for the Spidey loving gamers like me. I'll never forget the final fight with Doc-ock on Oscorp, it gaves me chills, and losing Aunt May got me really emotional, and not many games have that kind of effect on me. Its a truly special game, and I booked off my Friday and Saturday shifts to play the sequel, here's hoping its just as good!

If anyone’s playing on PC, get the mod that fixes the red on the white spider suit. It finally makes it look right and beautiful

This game is the reason I bought a PS4. A friend of mine was playing it when I came over one night and after 30 minutes I handed him the controller back and immediately went to OfferUp and bought one for $200. I steamrolled through the campaign and the story rivaled many modern Marvel movies and is one of the few instances where I was bawling my eyes out at the ending. Spiderman 2 will probably be my GOTY at this rate.

The music swelling as you swung around was just the best. Along with the BEST spiderman story I've ever experienced. Insomniac is the best next to NaughtyDog.

For me it was a combination of the travel and the combat, but mostly the combat... It just all flows together perfectly, even the animations are nice and smooth. Also the pace is perfect in my opinion but at the same time there's plenty to do on the side, and the side missions are fun and don't feel like a chore just so you can hit 100% like in a lot of games.

I'm a regrettable map completionst I usually always wanna tick off all the things on the map. And I just loved plotting a course from my current location to the next quest and grabbing all the stuff along the way. They did such a great job making traversal, combat, map location, etc all mesh together to make its a great time!

I got 2 highlights: 1: Yuri - I've admired his work since I was a baby, and still he amazes me. He's what drew me into these Spidey games, and I'm so grateful to him 2: Build up - I loved the post credit scenes with the continued build up to Spider-Man 2 and the story, especially with Venom. And also, outta everyone I hope Insomniac will let us fight, my pick has to be Norman. I shall relish the day I can let loose on that guy 😤

For me, it was the reason I finally upgraded to a PS4 from a PS3. But it also released at a time where my then relationship ended badly but we were stuck living together and I was trying to find a new job as the current one was killing me. Friday and weekends I enjoyed nothing better than swinging through New York with a smile on my face and remember playing Spider-Man 2 on GameCube.

Insomniac might be the greatest open world "hero" game producer of our generation. Between ratchet & clank, infamous and the spiderman series all of their games have awesome gadgets to use, an amazing world to explore and a great understanding of what makes their lead characters special. My PS5 arrives Thursday just in time to crank up Spiderman 2.

The first one was amazing, the sinister six fight was my favourite, just finished replaying it and almost finished miles morales, cant wait for the 2nd this friday, managed to get work off 🙌, also going on a social media blackout, ive seen some spoilers already and immediately closed the apps

This game was the reason i bought a ps4 back in the day. I remember booting it up, and absolutely being blown away. Everything from the visuals, to the music, the action, the voice acting, the web swinging, the story, the side missions, it was just perfectly spider-man. And the game was just fun. There would be some nights during my first playthrough when i just swang around new york and fought crine. This is also the first game ive ever bothered to 100% complete, because i just didn't want to put it down. I also have replayed this game at least 3 or 4 times. This, to me, is the ultimate spider-man experience, and i absolutely can not wait for spider-man 2

I have always been a Spider-man fan. I had a crush on Mary Jane from the Rami movies growing up, watched the animated TV show, took Spider-man on every possible mission in Ultimate Alliance... and still to this day I get to be apart of the new fantastic stories that still come out. Hats of to Stan and Steve for making such a time-tested character everybody can love 🕷

Spider-Man is my favorite hero, despite being scared of both heights and spiders. This game was amazing and made me feel like Spider-Man. It was extra special for me cause it was when my wife and I were first married, she had to go to conference. So I went too with my PlayStation and Spider-Man, just sat in the hotel for three days and played Spider-Man. It was awesome. The way they really got Peter’s character and how they did the story. Made some bold choices and for that, can’t wait for the 20th to play 2.

A maybe underrated detail in the combat system is the length of the button presses. Like square and triangle did different things depending how long you held them down. I really believe that’s what separated Spider-Man’s combat from the Arkham games

At the time, the Spider-Man brand was really trending up bc of the MCU and so for me, what had me really hype was the fact that we never really had a high quality, original Spider-Man game with as much care and passion that Insomniac had for it. Sure we had good SM games before but nothing like an exclusive PS game.

Honestly the whole game was just fun to play throughout the entirety of it. Yeah maybe a couple of open world missions began to get repetitive but overall it was fun to just play through without any huge stress or toughness. It was also silly in its own way, like my favorite thing, in the stealth portions. Basically if you hung up an enemy, he was invisible to other enemies, even if he was completely in sight. I loved hanging enemies in tight spaces and seeing their buddies just walk right past them. Stuff like that, the silliness and absurdity, makes games fun to me.

It was definitely the swinging for me. I'm glad my wife agreed to it.

What made me forgive the busy work in a way I haven't any other open world game, is that you do it all while slinging around as Spider-man, which is just f'n fun! "Another one of these? Uggg, let me make my way over there..... WEEEEEEE! WEEEEE!"

My favorite suit was the cell shaded, comic book accurate one. Though i couldn't really wear it until post game, because i COULD NOT take anything seriously with that suit compared to the rest of the animation.

I was sold on it from the moment it revealed, but the moment it went seamlessly from the opening cut scene to the incredible web swinging, that's when I knew it was going to be one of the best Spiderman games to exist. Then the combat only further sealed that for me. Also came here to say that Yuri also voices Smoke in Mortal Kombat 1 for those of you who didn't know 😀

well summed up. the love for this character absolutely shines through. he was my first favorite superhero some 50 years ago. i've soaked in comics and movies and games over the years too. but honestly for the first time since the mid 80s did a Spidey experience make me REALLY happy to be a spider-man fan. they did every character justice, from hero to villain to supporting cast. Total hats off to the crew responsible for JJJ's radio/podcasts that would break in and relate to the current situation, they had me really giggling. i think anyone, like myself , who lived in NYC could absolutely appreciate the clever ways they would reproduce landmarks and the vibe of each neighborhood. that was a bonus. you can just bask in the combat, or the story, or just explore between "crimes". over the past 5 years i've played through this game 8 times including the DLC on every difficulty level. it was a very easy game to understand the combat and just a joy to experiment with strategy, and mix it up. anyhooo. one heck of a game this is.

I think the game really understood the character well and payed homage to it while also telling an original story. The characters in it were great, the web swinging was top notch, and you could do side stuff as well while you weren’t focusing on the main story. The combat was great too. Insomniac got everything right with it.

I think Insomniac Games understood Spiderman and wanted to make a game where you can feel like you're actually him. Plus they put their own stamp on Spiderman villains and the story was good.

What made it a big deal: - It's Spider-Man. - It was graphically impressive. - It was an improvement on the original games. That's it. Personally, I couldn't play the game. Being an improvement on the original formula isn't enough and I kept falling asleep. Stopped at ~30 minutes in and never touched it again. If people like it then that's fine. Just not my cup of tea.

Spiderman from Insomniac. And Mad Max. Are the only games ive played where going from mission to mission physically traversing the world is rewarding and fun right up until the end. The travel is amazing, the combat and side things you encounter in between are also amazing.

I still use this game to relax. Even after getting platinum, just swinging around the city with the music off and your headphones on. What seems like 5 minutes turns into an hour. Can’t wait for the sequel.

When I first booted the game up it was like an amusement park. Crime fighting felt bad ass and web swinging was breathtaking.

The score was great, I had to keep reminding myself it wasn't from any of the movies. It's still installed on my PC, long after I finished it, just so I can go for a quick swing when I want.

This was my favourite spider man story ever I cried at the end when aunt May died and to this day it’s the only time I’ve cried cuz of a video game.

Just adding another perspective here. I tried playing this game 3 times and always dropped it a few hours in. My main problems with it were the characters feeling too "modernized" and not like their comic book originals and also the gameplay being too "cutscene/qte" heavy. Character wise mary jane was the most obnoxious change and her gameplay segments were the nail on the coffin for me. Gameplay wise movement/swinging was done very well but combat felt derivative and the set pieces were so frequent and "hands off" that it didn't even feel like i was playing the game. I hope the next one will improve these aspects of the game but judging by the last one's success I'm not getting my hopes up

Part of the reason i bought my ps5 was for this game, i didnt have any good xbox exclusives looking forward to so i made the jump. I LOVE this game. Gonna finish this then move to miles morales and maybe god of war after

I agree with most of what you said Jake, the only thing we disagree on the the ‘open world busy work’ I found the game so much fun that I just did the side content as I came across it. It was the only PS game that I got the platinum trophy for without making the effort to go after it.

I platinumed this thing on my old roommate's PS4. The last thing I had to do was fast travel on the subway which I never did because web swinging was just too much fun for me to not do.

Something about swinging through New York just feels satisfying. 2018 Spiderman swinging just feel like... Flying yourself. Can't wait to feel it again in the new Spiderman!

For me it was how after you (think you) wrap up the story and the game is about to end, BAM! It honestly felt like I played a second game after the prison breakout and the Sinister Six stuff. SO GOOD!

It was the most fun I had playing a video game in years up to that point, and it might still be for me up to this point!

I really just hope they have the same photo mode in the second game. Spent hours lighting screenshots in the first one.

Something very simple made it a big deal. After games like Prototype and Infamous series, we lacked a fun action game with good traversals, backed up with smooth animations. Spiderman delivered it. Animation is more important than we know I think

it’s just a solid, fun, game. insomniac is good at that, and i just love the character so that’s a plus. although the last spider-man game i loved was spider-man 2 from 2004 so i have to give props to the team for bringing me back

I love the first game so much. The story, gameplay, suits, New York, soundtrack, voice actors, characters, & villains. So well done, I love that we felt like Spider-Man more then ever, it was so spectacular. Miles Morales was incredible as well & I seriously can't wait for the sequel. It's gonna be insane!

Insomniac Spiderman is the first game I ever pre-ordered. He is my favourite superhero and Insomniac produced an amazing game first time around. I just hope the side missions are more impactful this time around, don't wanna be chasing pigeons.😅

This game will always hold a special place in my heart for a couple reasons. It was the first game I got the platinum for, but more importantly, it's the only reason I expanded out of the world of PC and got a PlayStation. Spider-Man was the reason I got the ps4. It was also the game that made me love the console. I was a pc guy. Now I play a mixture of both!

As someone who dreams of Spider-Man everyday. Who stopped reading comics just cuz after OMD they kept ruining Spider-Man.. And was sad when the closest to spidey charm (Andrew Garfield) wasn't continuing his dream of being Spider-Man. This game came out and in one emotional rollercoaster became the best for me. More people don't talk about it but just like Jamison... Harry's pre-recorded voice lines already made me love his character so I can't wait for part 2. And Whatever anyone's opinion is.. This is the best Spider-Man Iteration ever closely followed by Spectacular Spider-Man.

I can tell a great deal of care and attention to detail went into this video. You encapsulated the heart of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Peter’s mettle in overcoming all adversity, with the mask, and without it. I can’t wait for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

getting to go back and explore New York was awesome. They pulled it off so well and the game takes you all over the world with so many little details

Just almost everything was good. Story, Characters, Gameplay, the small crime events, boss fights, no bugs, great visuals. I love it that the open world isn't bloated. I hate that bigger=better Bullshit. Yes it had its problems too, the sidequests could have been better, and The Crime events too, the whole Open World could have been a bit better. My only complaints. Miles Morales made some of those things better. And I hope that Insomniac worked on that for Spiderman 2. I already read that some Boss fights will be in Side Quests, that already makes them better for me. I hope there will be way more side quests. With better storys.

This game was literally the reason I bought a PS4. Long time Nintendo and Xbox user since I was a child. But this game got me onboard the Playstation team. Waiting to play number 2 on the PS5 😊
