Hello everyone!! In today's video I will be delving into the Toyota 2E engine, which is by far one of the most underrated and unappreciated engine in Toyota's lineup. This engine is quite a masterpiece especially at time, boasting great performance as well as fuel economy.

in my university year I had a ee105 corolla sw with 1.3 2e with carb. engine(non turbo). I redlined it many many times for long times. at 189000km it was great. still miss that car and I'm still regretting it as sold.

Hello everyone) everything the author said is quite interesting. But after all, for this engine, you can put the cylinder head on 16 valves from the 4E engine. You just need to change the pistons themselves and waste the cylinders by 0.5 mm, buy an intake and exhaust manifold. Don't forget to also buy a trambler from 4E

Yes, this engine is so reliable, I had one with mileage around 800000km/500000 miles (compression still good) furthermore, when my (Chinese) cylinder head cracked, I drove to the service center on my own, just adding oil periodically :) P.s. but economy of this engine is awful, in my case it’s around 30-40 liters/100km (2.5-3.3km/l), but I think this may be caused by the carburetor solex-21083 from lada.

Hi I really enjoyed this video. I'd like to verify if the natural aspirated 2E is an interference or non-interference engine. There are articles that say it is non-interference but forums say the opposite and I would like to finally get clarity which is the truth. Thanks
@JWorldAdventures
@JWorldAdventures 11 ай бұрын
It's an interference engine, so once the timing belt snaps you will have piston to valve contact. Thank you for the kind words I really appreciate it!!🤗

23km/L must be from the fuel injected one. If I am gentle on the flat, I can't really get better than 16km/L on my carb one.
@JWorldAdventures
@JWorldAdventures Жыл бұрын
@85therealdeal Yes it is from the fuel injected one but with the partial lean combustion system, which had different port geometry and a twin squish type combustion chamber. All things considered 16km/L is still really good.

Hi great video and channel, im thinking of making a similar engine build. If i upgrade the camshaft for a 280 degrees one do i need to change the valves and springs? and is there any risc of the valves colide with the pistons? thank you.
@JWorldAdventures
@JWorldAdventures 3 ай бұрын
Thank you for the kind words!! Regarding your question, You should upgrade your valve springs in order to prevent valve float with the extra lift and duration that the cam will provide. And as for piston to valve contact, I suggest checking it during assembly, because the deck on your block could have been serviced once or twice during its life, so I suggest checking the piston to valve clearance. And if needed running a 1.4 or even a 2mm head gasket. I hope I was able to help you out.

@@JWorldAdventures Thank you very much for your answer, I was already looking to buy a set of TRD valve springs. Gladly my engine block is in good state and was never serviced i think it has around 120k - 160k km, but to prevent it will get a ressurface. Again thank you for your help, greetings from Portugal 👍✌

Am curious if there's more info on the All Japan Rally EP71? Sounds like a really underated/hidden car! Should be based on the Group A series starlet racers right? Was it only one particular car made? Or did they made a few dual carb spec for the world rally races?
@JWorldAdventures
@JWorldAdventures 5 ай бұрын
Thanks for the question. And yeah it's really underrated as a Motorsports vehicle. It's different from the group A cars, even though it fits in the time frame. Mainly back then the All Japan Rally championship had their own rulebook, but nowadays they do comply with FIA regulations. Regarding the Starlet; the late Sakurai San of TRD was the project lead for the EP71, and he had developed it with dual carburetors, a one off camshaft, bespoke exhaust, and engine internals. There was one more car that they developed for dirt trails, and was equipped with a turbocharged version of the 2E engine being the 2E-TELU. It produced at the time just about 200HP in racing trim. I hope I was able to answer your question. Have a good one 👍 😊

Do you have some link/s as to where can I buy a trd/performance camshaft? And what duration is good for daily. Thanks a lot

@Aldous Querubin dbilas-shop.com/en/engine-valve-train/performance-camshafts/toyota/1.3-12v-2e-e/regrind-standard-camshaft/5154/toyota-1.3-12v-2e-e/regrind-standard-camshaft?c=12758 here's a link to get your cam reground to 280 degrees of duration and 9.5mm of lift. I personally recommend this regrind as I have also used it in the past, and it's a straight drop in if your engine is completely stock. But if not I do highly suggest checking the piston to valve clearance just to be sure so that you won't have any problems with piston to valve contact. Regarding the TRD cam, you can sometimes get a hold of them through yahoo auctions Japan, croober, and aucfan. But are really hard to come by nowadays that is why I recommended the regrind. Although if you do end up getting a TRD cam their 272 Cam is highly recommended as it will be good for daily used and will improve the bottom and midrange performance.

@@JWorldAdventures There will be no problem if I run that on a stock 2e carb? And what other mods can you suggest to go with 280? Want to know the maximum upgrade I can do with my 2e that can still be used as a daily since I don't always run on a flat road. I am planning to use a twin weber 40 dcoe carb or twin mikuni solex carb but I don't know what other mods I need to do for it to be safe to use. Hoping for your kind advice. Thank you
@JWorldAdventures
@JWorldAdventures Жыл бұрын
@@aldousquerubin7974 You can get away with using the stock carb, but I suggest against it especially if you live where there is quite a bit of elevation change as it can cause the engine to run lean leading to excessive wear, or worse complete destruction of your cylinder walls. Albeit not to the extent to what you would see on a turbocharged engine, but it's still significant enough to need machine work at a machine shop. As for other upgrades, a full 2.25 inch exhaust system would be good as it would increase the exhaust flow coming out, and it's not too big that would reduce the bottom end torque that is needed for daily use. www.tij-power.com/product_info.php?language=en&products_id=168853 and getting these valve springs are also recommended if you do intend to rev it high or to have peace of mind that a valve won't drop on you. As you have said you did intend on going for a Twin carb setup and doing this along with the cam and other mods would be great as it will provide the necessary air and fuel needed, and it also improves throttle response to some degree as it's like individual throttle bodies. I hope that I was able help you out!! Have a good one!👍👍👍

Thanks for sharing, what's the head torque of the 2E engine
@JWorldAdventures
@JWorldAdventures Жыл бұрын
Hello there Gerard!! Thanks for the question. And to answer your question, the cylinder head should be torqued in 3 steps, that being 29NM, 49NM, and a final 90 degree.

Hello do you perhaps know what carburettors were used for the TRD all japan rally 2e engine? Or perhaps more info in general about the engine build
@JWorldAdventures
@JWorldAdventures 9 ай бұрын
From memory they were twin solex carburetors. But you can substitute them with twin weber 40 dcoe's most of the parts that went to the engine were custom made, and designed by the late Sakurai san of TRD. So not much info.
