My mates I hope you have all been very well. I come to you today with a video about a band from Orange County, California called Movements. Movements is an emo, indie, post-hardcore, and maybe even a little bit of a pop punk band.. they're not really pop punk at all in my opinion, but are very relevant in the "pop punk scene" so they often get categorized as a pop punk band.
Movements is a band that took me by surprise; I wasn't expecting much when I first hit "play" on one of their songs, but couldn't have had a more opposite experience. It gave me the same feeling that I had when I discovered bands like Basement, Title Fight, Balance And Composure, and Tigers Jaw when I was in high school.
And to this day I've been pondering to myself " What Makes Movements So Special? "
Today we're going to find out together.
Movements is signed to Fearless Records and has an incredible EP titled "Outgrown Things" featuring tracks: Kept, Nineteen, Worst Wishes, Hatchet, Vacant Home, and Losing Fight
They also have an incredible debut LP titled "Feel Something" featuring tracks: Full Circle, Third Degree, Colorblind, Daylily, Deadly Dull, Fever Dream, Suffer Through, Deep Red, Under The Gun, Submerge, and The Grey
Now, it's time for the feature presentation: What Makes Movements So Special?
I will thank you and eat a jolly rancher if you follow my brand on IG @matesclubusa
thank you always
Love you.

Nate The Mate : I've been listening to Patrick since a little before his house shows. Met him bc he lives in my area. Also, I'm friends with one of his previous managers and his most recent tour with my other friend the sound guy. Just saying I know him even though he still won't give us (even close friends) free tickets and stuff as well, but doesn't matter much bc I love supporting him/them all when I can. (I edited it to omit the names but you could probably figure it out if you try hard enough)

Nate The Mate : Also I just remembered I helped him film footage for a scene in one of his videos (never told us which song it was for and I don't think he ever used that footage either😅).

Every member of Movements is honestly so respectful, kind, and humble. I've never met them and felt like a burden and when I've talked to them it's like I feel at home. I have a Movements tattoo with lyrics from Nineteen, that I got on my nineteenth birthday and this band is so damn important to me. Success is not determined by leather-bound books and ink on paper.

Everyone is always like "How can you listen to such depressing music all the time" but what they don't understand is it's not. Movements music makes people like me feel less alone. It makes me joyful, it's like a good friend putting their arm around you and telling you're worth it. I know that's sounds cheesey as hell but it's the truth. They really are a special band ♥️

About five years ago, as a Lyft operator, I picked up a young gentleman at a Sam Ashe in King of Prussia, Pa. First thing I noticed is we shared the same first name. Turned out it was Spencer York and we started talking about his band, Movements. I was impressed with his down to earth attitude and willingness to discuss the band Checked out KZfaq vids and wekipedia and liked what I heard and saw. Spencer appears very smooth on his kit. Been rooting for them since that ride

You’ve gotta love the respect Patrick has for other bands too, at 7:46 you can see him wearing a Citizen hat, he wore a Title Fight shirt in the unreleased song “Scripted” music video. He’s always repping another influential band, and it’s awesome. This is my all time fav favorite band, this video hit hard Nate, I felt everything you mentioned in this. If you haven’t checked out Movements yet, so so.

One last thing. I saw Movements with Turnover, Citizen, and The Story So Far back in 2018 (one of my favorite concerts by far). Movements was the OPENING BAND when they should have been the finale (and that’s no disrespect to the other bands who I love very, very much). They brought the energy and what was definitely the best performance of the night, and from what I’ve seen in video of their other performances, this is usually the case

I went to a Knuckle Puck show in Columbus, Ohio in 2017. They were great, but Movements came on and there was something different about them. I'm used to people singing along to every song, but not like they sang along to Movements. I had never even heard of the band but the feeling that came over everyone and the emotions that came with it were overwhelming. I thought I went for Knuckle Puck, but it turned out I went for Movements.

Just came across this video 4 years after you posted it. As a 35 year old man who has been into the punkrock / emo / metal genre for more then 20 years now, Movements is definetely the most special band to me since Feel Something dropped. I think it will be the band for the rest of my life that I'll turn on at every day whether im feeling like shit or when I'm doing great, atleast that's what has been going on the last 6 years. They helped me through my darkest times when I was veeery depressed when I was 28-30 and I can safely say their lyrics helped me understand more about what I was feeling at the time. Just love this band with all my heart

I completely agree with your assessment of Movements and have had similar experiences listening to their music. I have been following Movements for close to four years now and continue to be blown away by their creativity and captivated by their artistic composition. Like yourself, Movements overwhelmed me with nostalgia, connecting me with my 16-year-old self. Now as a 36-year-old "adult," bands like Movements and Balance & Composure have made me realize how significant and influential this genre of music is, and the definite impact it has had on what is now decades of my life. Listening to Movements put me in touch with certain emotions and thought processes' of my 16-year-old self as I listened to bands like Saves The Day, The Promise Ring, and Bright Eyes. Overall, I believe I am blessed that a new generation of artists are producing music with heart, honesty, and substance.

hey, nate. i've been a lowkey mate for a few months now and i really love this new format you're going with on these videos. they feel incredibly personal. feel something was a life changing record to me that helped me become accustomed to softer vibes as opposed to the normally heavy music i listen to. and thanks to feel something, and to your videos, i discovered turnover. your video on peripheral vision made me check out the record and it's become an easy top 5 album of all time for me since i listened to it for the first time. thank you for your videos. this one especially.

A friend of mine who loved Movements (at the time i never heard of them) showed me the song The Grey while we were driving around a few weeks after i had a breakup with a girl i was with for almost 3 years. The song grabbed me right away, the lyrics, the sound, it was great, and now almost 3 years later it's still on of my all time favorite songs. I had a different phone at that time but on my current phone it's currently the 2nd must played at 208 plays. The Grey will always have a special place in my heart

I have no idea who this band is or who the other bands you mention are. I knew Brand New, and think Deja Entendu is the OK Computer of the 00s, hence I clicked the suggested video I commented on before. You stated hish school the year after I graduated college, so my teenage/20s happened long before yours. I don't know if I'm going to like Movements, but I queued them up on spotify to get a feel for them. I'm curious about how this emotional alternative stuff has changed since I was actively listing to current bands, so I've subscribed. I think you do a very strong job editing your videos and I think your narration is very strong. I'm in the middle of your "Why Pop Punk Sucks" video, which is good so far although I honestly don't know a single act you mention who went main stream after 2008 except I vaguely know the Wonder Years. Thank you for the direct engagement. I don't think I would have delved further into your work without it. Since you took the time to respond to me, I plan on taking time to see more of what you have to say.

Then there Album came out and I LOVED it. Then I got to see them as the last band I saw at Warped Tour in 2018, they were the closer to that day and the last band I'll probably ever see at Warped Tour, the last song they played was Daylily and balloons came out it was the perfect ending to Warped Tour.

Honestly, your channel introduced me to Movements [be it 2 years too late], and I'm so grateful I was introduced to such an emotionally complex, and musically diverse band as MOVEMENTS. Feel Something maintains a top album in my spotify library, and I can't help but belt out with Patrick on some of his most painfully true lyrics. I've been with them since Dreambound, I met Movements on 11/7/2018, at the show it was Mess KC band, Movements and Turnover. They did a private show in a bar in Lawrence KS, when I walked in no one knew Movements I heard people saying they're only there for Turnover. I sang every song at the top of my lungs, no one else sang. The moment I met Pat, he was the most humble man on earth. My ex fiance had gotten him to facetime me one day when I was going through the hardest time of my life, and he wrote my first tattoo "shine onto me." He then made a video so I could watch everyday I struggled with things. When they went off the stage I ran over to table and waited and waited for twenty minutes. Once it was my turn I told Pat my name and he told me he knew who exactly I was as soon as he seen me and my ex fiance always spoke about me. I told him that he saved my life and told him he has helped me through the hardest times in my life, and I went into depth on what I had been through. He held me while I cried on his shoulder, he had to lean down since I'm so tiny. I told Pat how much he means to me and he's my idol. I promised him that I wouldn't hurt myself any longer, and I finally felt complete. The night I went to go see Movements I almost didn't make it to see them, I was going to kill myself. Patrick Miranda, you saved my life. If I hadn't have met you that night I would have killed myself. Thank you for saving my life, you'll never know how much the night we met means to me. - The only teenager at the Bottleneck in Lawrence KS

I bought tickets to go to their Feel Something tour on a whim. I had never even heard of them. But one of my friends in my friend group at the time got tickets and wanted me to go too because I like that type of music. After hearing the first note on the studio album, I was a fan. After hearing the first note of them live, I'll go see them every chance I get.

Kept was my introduction to movements and genuinely it blew my mind. The line "I've lost every ounce of self respect, I hate myself, I am a wreck, I'll give you something to forget" is not only delivered perfectly by the full band, but carries the same emotions I've felt for years and it truly hit me in a different way. Now I'm seeing them in November and I can't wait. One of my all time favourite bands!

The most recent song to make me cry was definitely deadly dull. The biggest thing about it is that it's about pats girlfriends grandpa. He told the story wonderfully.
